Newsday: B+ (Coldplay is the Steve Jobs of Modern Rock)
A biography of Steve Jobs ["To live is to change the world"] will be released on Oct. 24 as well. It probably mentions the most influential books/music to himself, I see quite a few familiar names... Isn't the closest connection a iPhone Release Press Conference on Sept. 1st, 2010 with Chris on Wedding Bell - a whole year's flight. http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-10-06/steve-jobs-biography-release-date-moved-up-to-oct-24-by-simon-schuster.html

Why is Major Minus so underrated?
I think the reason why MM still stands out is that it still has the most attractive Co. energies but in a new coat - still connected. It is also like when you meet new people, usually, you only see outside/lightful part, other than, taking enough time, going through thin and thick, to feel the inside without any pretending or decoration. That's how I feel it when I listen through the whole album, from MX till to MM's phase. From ETIAW to UFO.

Blown away...
Is that towards my Post? I didn't check out Live version - but I think this song is the one which has more linkage to Co.'s old style - which I love, a bit of Leonard Cohen and Bob Dylan, pure and peaceful Country/Folk when the emotional haze has gone rest, like sunset. But to fit it into the context, it has a synth intro/bridge. But, why I always feel the sound effect is not good [i wonder the recording room's space]. The guitar is a bit too vague and set behind.
-
Slowed down the Intro :D
I have a moment in life with such a cute/lovely baby talking :) I wish it is still there - enjoying your child side, this simple.

what do you think of paradise now? (after listening to the album)
In a chronical sense, right after the first character's presence in HLH, here comes a narrator telling about some background. As in a film or a noval, it is quite natural - a few dramatic scenes [with tensions, like Hurt Like Heaven drawing audiences' attention and questions? What has been to lead to the current trouble?] at the beginning, then followed by a subtitle "3 Years Ago, Place Name" with a background voice saying, When... Musically, I feel the song, but the programming seems not quite cutting.

First Impressions of Mylo Xyloto (and vote in the 1-10 sliding scale poll!)
Listen up to Princess of China. Impression so far: An accoustic older man's heart wearing a youth-style windcoat. From pure listening habit - hard to feel cohesive; but if the Concept Album means, like life, has different phases and we are meant to be transformed or simply changed, maybe it takes more time to get connected to each piece in each phase or comprehend in a cohesive way - how it is transformed, a bit scattered on the surface or a set of reflections along the timeline? Prefer Us Against the World [reminding me When The Ships Come In from The Times They Are A-Changing of Bob Dylan]. You see innocence and a not-so bright flame in a pair of old experienced eyes, and you see a bit of lost or searching in that piece of innocence, past, present and future could be all at the moment. Just some inspirations from the Concept. I think, as many interviews disclosed, Accoustic need to have legs [Will] to make vigorous movements - that's how I feel musically - traces on how Two coming into this One [Guy].
-
Blown away...
Reminds me of a bit of When The Ships Come In by Bob Dylan from The Times They Are a-Chaning 64' - "Dylan would say: "I can't really say that adults don't understand young people any more than you can say big fishes don't understand little fishes. I didn't mean "The Times They Are a-Changin'" as a statement... It's a feeling."[4]" from Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Times_They_Are_a-Changin' Personally, I prefer this style, not so much distraction but a flow of telling in half-reflection.

Still filming Paradise today in London
I think that's part of Chris or the band, a bit joyful/playful like children but with enough insights of the older. If you observe animals, it is amazing, the whole story just like any human history. Yet they speak or tell sth. that few humans can/would pay attention to or fully understand; nor they create songs or poetry to declare anything. But it is there, the energy and a sort of standing power. Elephant has been an important figure in Buddhism and South-East Asian cultures - quiet and quite tolerant in nature, but can be super hot tempered when the bottomline is crossed - my immediate connection. Sometimes, I feel more interested into animals as they are more real.

Mylo Xyloto is...
could be a synthesis of multiple layers - a philosophical one: from etymology [i always think the title itself means sth. with common foundation but different representations. Based on the common foundation, it is interchangable and reversible] to energy, from two different characters in manifestation to celebrating diversity as part of humanity. Maybe we attract the opposites/differences [true in a limited context or from a single perspective] to learn a lesson of deep commonness or the other way around - feel exciting or comfortable with sth. in common but learn to appreciate the differences, until we become aware that this power lies in us - closest to Unconditional Love. I were them, I would develop a code, such as Mylo Xolyto, inviting universial communication. BBB: for Rudyard Kipling: I think it is The Ballad of East and West? [i read the background a bit and it is one of the mostly misquoted/misinterpreted...] But for a man who "always prefer to believe the best of everybody; [it saves so much trouble]” and set IF to encourage himself and others to a finer Line Walking. The controversies shall automatically disappear. So I think even it is a love story in certain contexts [from the lyrics and interviews], it contains a message~ I've read a few posts with a kind of "synchronization feeling" upon the new album and new awareness rising up in the "environment". As an astrology/buddhism lover, I feel that too. I think we Co-Create sth. together...

Willie Nelson covers Coldplay's The Scientist for Chipotle Foundation
Thanks for posting the news! It is a wisdom/philophy that is reflected in "a full circle" different aspcts of life/living~, for all types of "relation" [human vs animals/nature/environment; human to human; reality VS dream; music inspiration VS action etc...]. It is all about energy :) and this energy will attract the one with the same viberation frequency - translated in consciousness as Love/Harmony ~

Noel Gallagher a fan of Coldplay's new material
I think so, sometimes, depends on the phase of life you are in, or we are just attracted to what we'are aware of or inside of us...some of Oasis/Coldplay songs are so forever "moment" imprinted...

Does This Song Remind Anyone of Kanye?
I am not familiar with any Hip-Hop or Kanye. But for the Dance - yeah, quite interesting! From a local forum, people talk about maybe it is a dance of Mongolian or Urghur. Or simply, Chris himself could be very "expressive" on stage, maybe just sth. natural to him, improvised. I think some type of music can really excite your body/cell, they just want to Move and Jump, dance!

Princess of China
This 2:20ish mark has been mentioned many times. I don't think it is what Coldplay has showed in their previous composition/performance either. As a Chinese, yes, it is very natural to me and it might not be personal taste/feeling; I mean, the melody itself has a strong imprint for a kind of life the historical martial art heros has lived - Robinhood like spirit following the bigger law of Justice. Martial Art itself might not be as what you see with eyes [and it is pathetic to see it from voilent attacting aspect although you can], if you feel it with your soul, the essence is how to protect a home-like harmonious peace when all the negatives [either in physical or emotional etc.] offend or invade, creating conflicts/destruction/chaos. I do wonder where the inspiration comes from?... But others may match that with their own culture/folk oriented melodies. Last point. The reason why it might sound as traditional Chinese melody, is because, there are only 5 notes in that part [in simple numberic form, 1-2-3-5-6 [full scale note; pre-Tang names of the five notes of the pentatonic scale, corresponding roughly to do, re, mi, sol, la] other than the worldwide modern one 1-2-3-4-5-6-7]. If a song is composed only by these 5, no matter how it is sequenced or rhythmed, it brings out a certain kind of energies. Maybe it is true as other "note sets". It is easy to test out. I have another similar feeling song [well known in China] in mind when I firstly heard this part as well. If you are interested in checking out [but the beginning part starts quite late, almost from the middle]: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iknGg9l4a7s]????? ?? ?? ??? - YouTube[/ame] [Title: 沧海一声笑;Laughter of Sea for literal translation]

Princess of China's melody fits completely into Hurts Like Heaven's
Would that be natural for a writer to just have some similar but not exact same notes/patterns to express a certain kind of emotion; thus it is reflected in several songs. Another thing in composition I guess, there might be a main/original inspiration/melody first, then you can develop it into different directions or versions. It would be very cool that a song and its reversible one can express different things. Not to make you disappointed, and I do like the idea a song can somehow gives clues of another - like a hidden link connecting all the songs in one concept album. Sometimes, lyrics can do a better job. But if it is intentional, two melodies can be sensed as a reciprocated pair if not exactly the same.

Just What Does "Mylo Xyloto" Mean?
It is not an exciting guess; I just think if those are just common words; I wrote in this thread about some Tooth Tree Ear discovery: http://www.coldplaying.com/forum/showthread.php?p=4935519#post4935519

The Many Mystery Messages Of Mylo Xyloto
to me, Under 1 Roof handdrawing like an illustration of Home [家 [jia] - reminds me of Chinese Character for Home as well as it is very illustrative]. The MX figure can be seen as a Roof image as well; or a dancing couple?? Seeing closely, if you use this MX cutboard to see anything [now, it is a background picture], then anything will be "tailored" within this figure - meaning if you have home/love image in you, then you look at the world through love or home-like thinking? Later on, I checked Mylo Xyloto based on literal meaning. Mylo [Greek] = Molar [Doesn't M look like a tooth? http://www.merriam-webster.com/art/dict/tooth.htm]; tooth for granding, the last three [falling off earlier when you are old - irrelevant though]. Then Xyloto, Xyl = Wood [Greek] and Oto = Ear [Greek], Xyloto could mean Wood Ear? Mylo Xyloto could mean Tooth Wood Ear [kind of Fungus]? "The fungus grows from a wound in a hardwood tree." http://www.backyardnature.net/f/toothfun.htm AND "The most important ecological relationships involving tooth fungi are the mycorrhizal ones they have with trees. Most of the species covered by this profile, with the exception of the earpick fungus, have a mycorrhizal association with Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris). Some species, including the wood hedgehog, are also associated with broadleaved trees. In this symbiotic, mutually-beneficial relationship, the hyphae of the fungus wrap around the root hairs of a tree. In the exchange which takes place at the plant-fungus interface, the fungus obtains sugars which the tree produces by photosynthesis, while the tree gains nitrogen, phosphorus and potash which the fungus takes up from the soil." http://www.treesforlife.org.uk/tfl.tooth_fungi.html AND "Hericium erinaceus has been highly prized as an edible and medicinal fungus in China and Japan for centuries. In China, it is called houtou, which means monkey head mushroom, geographically appropriate for the indigenous Asian fauna. In Japan, it is known as yamabushi-take, which means the mushroom of the yamabushi, Japanese ascetics and priest-warriors who lived in the mountains. This name is likely a metaphor; the fungus is normally found growing as a single outgrowth in remote areas with old and dead wood, reminiscent of the solitary isolated yamabushi. The houtou was first domesticated at the Shanghai Agricultural Academy of Science in 1959 and has since spread globally. It is estimated that almost 10,000 metric tons were produced in 2001. In traditional Asian medicine, the houtou or yamabushi-take was prescribed primarily for the treatment of stomach disorders. Trials conducted in China in the 1990's demonstrated that extracts of H. erinaceus reduced inflammation of the alimentary canal, lending credence to the practices of ancient fungal pharmacology. It is also used in China to increase the longevity of cancer patients. More recently, Japanese researchers patented the compound erinacines, which has been shown to stimulate the growth of neurons (known as Nerve Growth Stimulant Factor, or NGSF). This has inaugurated some interest in the use of the fungus in the treatment of Alzheimer's disease, strokes and other debilitating conditions associated with nerve damage. There is also some indication that other active constituents of the fungus may enhance the response of the immune system; a study of the effects of an extract called PHE (polysaccharide of H. erinaceus) on mice revealed that there was an increase in the production of lymphocytes." http://www.sierrapotomac.org/W_Needham/LionsMane_061203.htm Maybe the last resource has more inspirations. It could lead many imaginations/connections. Finally, now MX figure in the cover looks like a wood ear [fungus]. Too much rambling here. Could be non-sense or a fungus-hardwood relationship?

Noel Gallagher a fan of Coldplay's new material
Coming across with such a thread is interesting; aware of the close dates of Noel's Solo and Mylo Xyloto. Not get a chance to see Oasis Live before the split is a pity. I think there are more wildness/anger/conflicts/roughness/extreme high/low [more RNR/Blues elements] in Oasis's music expression - then the tender/sensitive living in - the whole picture looks more dramatic or complicated. Coldplay and Oasis are meant to have their own styles and paths [so as their lives], different sides of british or Brit-pop, although I dislike label music at all. But there is one thing in common for me, the melody, the first thing I am attracted to [or even behind the melody, it is actually how you express the inner world fluently, accurately and fully, presenting the "gravity" or the "distance"]. If there is sth. very unique to music as an expression form, for me, it is melody and the context. I am impressive with I'm Outta Time.

Up In Flames the new Clocks?
I've put on a Memorial Blog [http://www.myspace.com/nanciblues/blog/543935332] for Clocks - as I felt "synchronizing" again. Right after that day, I got the news of LP5 album title from Co. email list. I still remember how I was touched and inspired by the first two albums...Maybe we all have such a period of time, be most absorbing, eyes wide open, usually sth. significant happened as well..ahhh...

Hey Coldplay, this is your Joshua Tree moment, don't mess it up.
lol. I would think Co. [i saw someone else also call them Co. hehe - it's a nice coincidence.] fits well into Co.co.nut. Tree ?? if nut = crazy = passionate without any way back or less = as if this is always the last album/last thing to do. This thread reads so funny, the beatles [There would be a new Documentary for George coming soon as well, by the right man Mr. Martin Scorsese] and all...I read somewhere that a reincarnated Beatles [with sons of George and John] might play for 2012 Olympic Game in London? For me, 60'-70' has a very unique/profound background that everyone born into have a sense of being "historical" afterwards; music is one of the most reflective media to convey such energies [uranus, Pluto, Neptune maybe] . My first and deepest impression is the background picture behind such music, even in different styles or techniques, more real and soul-reaching; R&R was born in a rocky time/space indeed. It doesn't mean 21th music is shallow or light, from some or many, life becomes more stable and easier although the contrast becomes more dramatic. To some extent, we all belong to certain period of time, U2, Co. and such are more compatible from this aspect. But I am glad to see Chris got some inspirations from Bruce Springsteen even Bob Dylan, could be a new stage of development in the art of writing and expressing [astrological set...]. Emotion power is not necessarily the most representable through emotion. There is a thin line between being natural&real and common¬ real enough, again, we've reproduced/reinvented music when we listen INto it and express what we feel OUT, already a personal 'breathing'. I don't know how to compare, as I cherish all these breathing IN/OUT moment, real and beautiful. debating on then, sorry for my off-track parking.
