Hey everyone, There must be some people here who know a lot about audio interfaces. I'm deciding whether or not I should purchase one. It would mainly be for recording piano covers. If I were to use MIDI, is the sound quality going to be that much better using an audio interface, than just a direct connection to the computer? In the past, I have always used live recordings, so I would use it for that as well. I know that should be greatly improved? I was suggested to look into the Steinberg UR22, which appears to be a popular choice. I'm a bit of a recording noob :)

  4. I'm just restarting a old thread made by technicolor_birds1935. Just say the records you have by coldplay and the ones you want before you pass. Also try to give tips to others on where to find records if you can help. I have all the albums and EP's on digital and I really want Mince Spies, X&Y Latin America Tour Edition, Safety EP and the White Shadows Single which was released in Mexico.

  6. I just noticed peoples interest in some of the more technical side of things/sounds/production etc. This article from quite a few years ago in Sound on Sound is about as good as it gets to get a first hand account of what the process was like recording parachutes. I'm curious to know which word Ken Nelson auto-tuned on the album. Also interesting that Yellow was done with a click track in ProTools while the others were played live essentially. Ken Nelson also mentions that pump organ that seemed to be so omnipresent in coldplay's early stuff. acted almost like a synth pad. It's a great article, I'm sure anyone who loves Coldplay and records music or is interested …

  7. So I'm currently arranging an A Capella version of Christmas Lights for my choir which is an awesome thing because we never sing Coldplay or any other "modern" music during our Winter Concerts :awesome: Since I never took formal music theory classes, I'm just gonna be working off the Music Notes version. Once I have everything planned out, I'll have to re-write everything on staff paper...:wreck: Currently, at the most, I have 5-part harmonies going on at any given time: Soloists 2 People per Verse (Melody) Soprano 1&2 (Violin) Soprano All (Lead Piano Riff) Altos (Underlying Piano Riff) Tenors (Lead Bass Riff if not Mixed With Altos) Baritones/Bass (Low…

Hi Coldplayers, I posted on some other forums, but nobody has responded. I have been inspired greatly by bands like Coldplay to write my own music, and I would like to share it with fellow Coldplay fans. Hope you find it to your liking! :) Although I do have Pro Tools and Logic, I still have to learn how to use them better, so I mainly use Garageband to record my songs, and Audacity to edit them. If anybody on here wants to listen to my stuff, they can check my Bandcamp, Facebook page, or Soundcloud. https://theescapist2.bandcamp.com https://www.facebook.com/pages/Escapist/224746440912799 https://soundcloud.com/theescapist1 Thanks in advance for listening.

Apologies for the self-promotion. Just wanted to share a cover i did over Ghost Story. I used the DADGAD tuning tuned down a semitone. I also just looped that little shaker percussive sound at the beginning. There are probably hundreds of ways to play the chords in this song. I layered four guitars and played the chords for the chorus differently for each one. For one take, I made the first D chord in the chorus with 0-0-7-7-0-0. For another take i did 0-5-7-7-0-0 and for another take I did 0-5-4-7-0-0. I played the second chord of the chorus at...what must have been the 10th fret. it might be a fret off, but just adjust by one for each finger if it is. 1…

Hello fellow Coldplayers, I'm wondering if anybody would want to see a cover of O. I have worked out the piano part played and would like too see if any body wants me to do a piano cover/tutorial. I don't do many covers and publish them but this song is just so beautiful. I have worked out by ear but trust me its as accurate as I can get it. If this goes well I might put up more covers. The intro covers the base of the whole song I thought people might want to know how to play it. If I get 15 people to say they are interested in the thread I will post a video some time next week!

Hi, I just came accross an auction which is selling one of Chris's stage used guitars, going by the description it was used at a few different gigs. I know I wont have enough to buy it though pretty cool all the same. Here is a link to the guitar: http://www.julienslive.com/view-auctions/catalog/id/134/lot/56825/?url=%2Fview-auctions%2Findividual-lots%2F%3Fkey%3Dcoldplay : )

Alright so once again, figured this out by watching Jonny play it live. I was under the impression that it was played on 3 different strings (with the Ebow of course) but that is not the case. The whole riff is played on the G string with a couple hammer-ons, pull-offs, and slides because hooray for sliding up and down strings for cool sounds!! It's actually pretty easy though so that's a good thing. Note: If you don't have an Ebow, which fortunately I do, you can still play this riff by tremolo picking, but it just won't sound so 'authentic' unless you could actually tremolo pick quickly and softly enough so that you can't even hear the pick attack on the strings... …

Well, it's been quite some time since I've posted in here. I recorded a new song. First one in over a year, actually. I've posted a few songs with quite the positive feedback on here before...so I thought I'd try again and see if my sound is still appreciated. Song can be heard here: https://belo.bandcamp.com/ Anyway, the song's called Transmission in Space. It's about trying to connect with someone when all other avenues of communication have already failed. It's about that feeling you get when you're dying to express how you feel to someone but there's no way you can. So you go into a state of mind where you try channeling your emotions to them internally. …

I was listening a great band called Phantogram, it sounds really good but I'm not a native speaker and I can't disguise some lines on songs, aparently they add lyrics to the original versions. Well, I think there are many native english speakers here in coldplaying.com and I know they or you can help me. What is he saying at 11:00-11:16? What is he saying at 19:36-19:39? What is she saying at 26:04-26:23? What is he saying at 34:54-35:11? What is she saying at 37:33-37:39? What is she saying at 40:47-41:27? For example at 26:13-26:18 I listen "my tears have come alive", but I'm not sure at all. [video=youtube;j86QdEwQvuU] I will always love you if y…

Hey guys! I apologize if I am posting in the wrong section, didn't know where to post. Anyway, my favorite song is Prospekt's March. I love the guitar and strings, and the lyrics are amazing. I was wondering maybe if anyone good with remixing songs wanted to try and do a piano version of the song. Just take out the guitar and replace it with piano. I've seen it done with Shiver, Fix You, and Yellow. I know it can be done because there is an acapella version of Prospekt's March. So all you would have to do is play the piano part and add it in with the acapella. I wish I knew how to do stuff like that, but I'm terrible with audio editing and mixing. Thanks! :D

Hey guys, Does anyone have an idea what would be a possible way to replicate the kind of sound Will uses on his Roland Octopad for Oceans. The idea of having a drum beat that is pitched to the key of the song is pretty clever and it sounds good to me. I'm just not gonna go buy the "Octopad" any time soon. Though it looks sweet. I use logic X btw. And also, here's a little cover I did of oceans. I played it while listening to the version they did at BBC 1 as a guide track. I used the tuning DADGAD. Honestly don't even remember how I played it. I don't think it's 100% the way Chris plays it, but it's close and I think the chords are generally good sounding. I p…
