Brazil's famous striker Ronaldo, number 9, netted the ball today after a fabulous pass from Kaka and a brilliant scissor move to fake out the goalie. That now marks his 15th all time world cup goal. Passing Germany's Gerd Muller who set the record in the 1974 world cup in the final against the Netherlands. only 3 goals so far in the world cup, in the shadow of 8 goals 2002. Some people were concerned over his weight and physical fitness level in the months before the cup, and especially when his first two appearances in 2006 ended with a substitution and hardly any movement. Rumors spread that young Robinho was going to replace Ronaldo. But Parreria kept him in the…

The remains of the wife of 19th Century US writer Nathaniel Hawthorne have been reburied next to those of the author, after more than a century apart. Sophia Peabody Hawthorne left the US with her children after her husband's death in 1864. She went to England, where she died six years later. Her remains and those of daughter Una were exhumed from a London cemetery, after their plot fell into disrepair. One of Nathaniel Hawthorne's best known works was the novel The Scarlet Letter. Maintenance of the plot in Kensal Green cemetery in north-west London was paid for by a Catholic order, the New York-based Dominican Sisters of Hawthorne, which was founded by the…

I've realised I suck at the soccer lingo.....really. I have no idea if a player is good, wether he should be in a position or another, and the rules...well....basics. I wish I had that ability, it's awesome. I admire anyone who can analyze a match.

Educational authorities in the US city of Miami have voted in favour of removing a controversial book about Cuba from the city's school libraries. The book sparked protests from some in the Cuban exile community, but its removal could lead to a legal battle. The Miami Dade School board voted six to three in favour of removing the 32-page geography book A Visit to Cuba from public school libraries. It follows months of campaigning by Cuban exiles to have it removed. They say it portrays an idealised view of life in Cuba - and fails to reflect what they describe as the harsh conditions Cubans have lived under since Fidel Castro came to power in 1959. Legal…

More than a million Cadbury chocolate bars are to be removed from shelves amid fears that they may be contaminated with salmonella. The 250g Dairy Milk Turkish, Dairy Milk Caramel and Dairy Milk Mint bars, the Dairy Milk 8 chunk and the 1kg Dairy Milk bar are among products affected. The 105g Dairy Milk Buttons Easter Egg and the Freddo bar were also affected. The contamination was caused by a leaking pipe at Cadbury's Marlbrook plant, near Leominster, Herefordshire. A Cadbury spokesman said the move had been carried out "purely as a precautionary measure". "The levels are significantly below the standard that would be any health problem, but we are taki…

Will they suddenly start playing? Where are their problems? I personally dont think they're good enough defensively to win the tounament. Their defence was caught out so many times today, and that was against an average Austrailia side. Their two wing backs, are aging and are expected to bomb forward and to their defensive duties. In midfield, Emerson doesnt look in good shape, and Ronaldinho never tracks back. And then up front Ronaldo is clearly un-fit/unwell. While they have some great players, they are yet to impress me and I dont think they will. :\

  15. (06-20) 03:23 PDT WASHINGTON, (AP) -- A Pentagon document classifies homosexuality as a mental disorder, decades after mental health experts abandoned that position. The document outlines retirement or other discharge policies for service members with physical disabilities, and in a section on defects lists homosexuality alongside mental retardation and personality disorders. Critics said the reference underscores the Pentagon's failing policies on gays, and adds to a culture that has created uncertainty and insecurity around the treatment of homosexual service members, leading to anti-gay harassment. Pentagon spokesman Lt. Col. Jeremy M. Martin said the polic…

A Scotsman has lost out after placing the biggest bet yet on England to win a match in the World Cup. Bookmaker William Hill said a man from Inverness had taken a wager of £40,000 on Sven-Goran Eriksson's side to beat Sweden at odds of 11/8 on Tuesday. He stoods to rake in £95,000 if the bet came off. William Hill said it was "remarkable" such a bet had been placed by a Scot. England drew 2-2 against Sweden in their final Group B game in Cologne. William Hill spokesman Graham Sharpe said: "It is remarkable that the biggest bet yet placed on an England game has come from a Scottish client." He added that the majority of bets taken north of the border were…

As first revealed last week in Joseph Farah's G2 Bulletin, the premium, online intelligence newsletter published by the founder of WND, Osama bin Laden is planning what he calls an "American Hiroshima," the ultimate terrorist attack on U.S. cities, using nuclear weapons already smuggled into the country across the Mexican border along…

The New York Knicks put Larry Brown out of his coaching misery Thursday, ending weeks of uncertainty by firing the Hall of Fame coach with four years and a reported $40 million left on his contract. President and general manager Isiah Thomas will replace Brown as coach. In Brown's one season in New York, the Knicks stumbled to a 23-59 record - second worst in the NBA and matching the most losses in club history — while Brown publicly feuded with Stephon Marbury and other players. But the postseason may have been even more difficult for Brown. His coaching status had been in limbo since reports surfaced in May that owner James Dolan was looking to buy out Brown'…

  23. WATCH THE INTERVIEW HERE This is desperately sickening.... Ex -US soldier: 'If he didn't answer the way we liked, we would shoot his youngest kid in the head' Live Journal | May 23 2006 Jessie Macbeth, a Former Army Ranger and Iraq War Veteran Tells All This 20 minute interview will change how you view the U.S. occupation of Iraq forever. I cannot possibly recommend this more highly. An Iraq war veteran tells of atrocities he and other fellow-soldiers committed reguarly while in Iraq. I have never seen this level of honesty from a U.S. soldier who directly participated in the slaughtering of Iraqis. Excerpts: "When we were doing the night raids in t…
