I think it's quite clear what I mean with this thread; Create the best starting 11 of the tournament! So choose the players who played the best this tournament, so don't look at how the've played last season at their clubs, but only base your squad on their matches at the 2006 world cup. I'll do the kickoff: Buffon (ITA) Miguel (POR) - Cannavaro (ITA) - Thuram (FRA) - Zambrotta (ITA) Cahill (AUS) Xavi (SPA) - M. Rodriguez (ARG) Zidane (FRA) Klose (GER) - F. Torres (SPA)

It has been alleged that one of the Portuguese players failed a drugs test after the quarter final match on Saturday. If this is confirmed as positive, under FIFA rules for the tournament, paragraph 6, subsection 2e, Portugal will forfeit their place and England will play France in a re-arranged Semi-Final. Read below for the full transcript of this report .... ......keep going ......keep going.. Carlsberg do not post on messageboards, but if they did they would probably be the best posts in the world.

Portugal winger Cristiano Ronaldo said he was "pleased" by the vitriolic reaction to his every touch in the World Cup semi-final loss to France. The crowd's response was thought to stem from his actions in the quarter-final win over England, when striker Wayne Rooney was sent off. But after Wednesday's match in Munich, which France won 1-0, Ronaldo, 21, said: "I was pleased about being booed. "Maybe France fans were upset to see a dangerous player. I'm not worried." Ronaldo preferred to focus on the performance of referee Jorge Larrionda, claiming the Uruguayan was biased against his side. "We played well and did our best but the referee didn't help us,"…

I went to a place called Germany with my Uncle Sven and some other grown up's. It is a country in Europe where a bad man called Adolf used to live with his nazties, he does not live there anymore, Uncle Owen does live there, and the grown up's say I cant talk about the bad man as it will make Uncle Owen cry if I do. In Germany there are lots of castles and some mountains. We are staying in a place called Baden Baden that's a silly name, Uncle Frank has the same name as his dad, that's silly too, his mum must get their underpants mixed up all the time. On the aeroplane Uncle Sol sat next to me, he got me some toffee and wants to be my friend, he works at the place wher…

Busted for wearing a peace T-shirt; has this country gone completely insane? Mike Ferner | July 5 2006 Friday afternoon, drinking a cup of coffee while sitting in the Jesse Brown V.A. Medical Center on Chicago's south side, a Veterans Administration cop walked up to me and said, "Okay, you've had your 15 minutes, it's time to go." "Huh?" I asked intelligently, not quite sure what he was talking about. "You can't be in here protesting," Officer Adkins said, pointing to my Veterans For Peace shirt. "Well, I'm not protesting, I'm having a cup of coffee," I returned, thinking that logic would convince Adkins to go back to his earlier duties of guarding against …

French music retailer Virgin France has been fined 600,000 euros ($754,266; £414,147) for music piracy. The firm, owned by Lagardere, was fined for illegally downloading Madonna's Hung Up to resell on its own website. An industrial court found Virgin France unit Virginmega had ignored an exclusive deal reached by Warner Music France with France Telecom and Orange. Under the ruling, Virginmega was told to pay 250,000 euros to each telecom firm and 100,000 euros to Warner. Warner welcomed the decision, saying it had succeeded in protecting its rights and those of its artists. 'Surreal behaviour' France Telecom's Herve Payan told the International Heral…

Frings out of semi Tuesday, 4 July 2006 @ 5:57 AM Germany will have to do without midfielder Torsten Frings for its semi-final against Italy after FIFA suspended him for a post-match altercation with Argentina's Julio Cruz. Frings had been cited on video evidence after a review of the post-match fracas which erupted after Germany put Argentina out of the tournament on penalties. Two Argentine players, Maxi Rodrigues and Leondro Cufre, also face sanctions for the melee. A FIFA statement said Frings was given a two-match ban, with the second match suspended dependent on good behaviour over the next six months. It means he will be able to play if Germany gets throu…

Video: Investigation Into The Death Of David Kelly Scoop | July 5 2006 British LibDem MP Norman Baker is now two months into a private, year-long investigation into the death of Dr David Kelly, the scientist who found himself under siege after apparently accusing the government of ‘sexing up’ the case for war to a BBC journalist. David Kelly was an employee of the United Kingdom Ministry of Defence (MoD), an expert in biological warfare, and a former United Nations weapons inspector in Iraq. His talk with a journalist about the British government's dossier on weapons of mass destruction (WMD) in Iraq inadvertently caused a major political scandal, and he was foun…

Bush condemns disclosure of secret anti-terror program Program that searches bank records lawful, president says WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Bush on Monday sharply condemned the disclosure of a program to secretly monitor the financial transactions of suspected terrorists. "The disclosure of this program is disgraceful," he said. "For people to leak that program and for a newspaper to publish it does great harm to the United States of America," Bush said, jabbing his finger for emphasis. He said the disclosure of the program "makes it harder to win this war on terror." The program has been going on since shortly after the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks. It was …

So seven of my friends and I went to go see 'Click' Sunday night (I did a triple feature that night: 'Tokyo Drift', 'Click', and 'The Break-Up'). The movie was funny at the start... but then it got really serious... and I can honestly say that all eight of us cried at one point during the movie. And I even cried the least. All the macho tough guys who would never let down their pride for anything were crying. Of course the girls were. It is such a sad movie, and the ending sort of drives it home. You can't help but feel for Adam Sandler's character. The movie is fantastic. Go see it - a definite must-see.

Australian PM demands Brother axe Australia's Prime Minister John Howard has called for the country's Big Brother to be axed after allegations of sexual assault on the reality TV show. Police investigated the programme over the weekend after a female contestant claimed a man held her down while another rubbed his crotch in her face. No charges were made, but two men have been thrown off the programme. "Here is a great opportunity for a bit of self-regulation and get this stupid programme off the air," said Mr Howard. "It is just a question of good taste," Howard told Australian radio as he condemned the show, broadcast by Network Ten. Federal Communicati…

http://www.nme.com/news/lily-allen/23497 The nerve of this idiot! Somehow, she doesn't look like the world's foremost authority on football. I thought it was funny that she decided a country's football team automatically reflects the state of that country's society. Its something that only a completely ignorant, blathering idiot could say. After all, the Ivory Coast made it to the World Cup (a major accomplishment for a small African nation) while in the midst of a civil war!!!!

Furious Fifa president Sepp Blatter confirmed it will investigate the ugly scenes which marred Germany's quarter-final victory over Argentina. Punches and kicks were thrown between both sides following Germany's penalty shoot-out success in Berlin. Blatter told Five Live Sport: "I am furious about that and our disciplinary committee will monitor this incident. "We will take some steps towards those who are identified as being the 'provocateurs' of this incident." Blatter added: "There was really no need. After 120 minutes football is a drama, and then you have to go to penalty kicks and then football becomes a tragedy, but one is the winner and one is the lo…

Hey everyone, I just have a question. Is there a way to transfer songs (from iTunes) from a laptop to a computer? For instance, I have a laptop, and all my songs are on there, but I don't have a CD burner and would like to burn some songs on a CD. Is there a way to get those songs to another computer so I can burn and store them there? A software or cable perhaps? Thanks. - Jeff

Anybody watching BBC1 early Saturday evening would have witnessed a mesmerising display of passion and precision: stirring highs, gut-wrenching lows and a surprise victory by a veteran team whom some had written off but who have recently enjoyed a spectacular return to form. By which I mean the closing montage screened after England's grimly predictable elimination by Portugal in Gelsenkirchen. To my mind, the BBC's farewell-England montage is one of the unacknowledged highlights of any international football tournament. I love the editing-room wizardry, the way the action dips and soars in unison with the music, the speed at which the BBC team must have cut togeth…

Cinema detective to tackle piracy The UK is to get a cinema investigator to tackle the crime of recording films in cinemas to be sold as pirate DVDs. The investigator, a former police officer, will train cinema staff and examine incidents where recording equipment has been used in cinemas. Film piracy has grown in the UK as more major movies gain a simultaneous worldwide release, said the Federation Against Copyright Theft (Fact). The new role was funded by UK film distribution companies. "Films have never been more vulnerable to rip-off copying," said the Chief Executive of the UK Film Distributors' Association (FDA), Mark Batey. "We believe the appoint…

i've just came up with an idea. Can we just make some comments on the World Cup-related stuff(words you wanna say to your fave team, player....whatever) by quoting Coldplay's lyirics( you may change a little bit)? And it's okay if you quote other musician's lyrics, but please tell us whose lyrics they are. Starting here: To the Germans: Do back the thing the Italians did to you in return(i'm referring to the Italy's 4-1 victory over Germany early this year in Florence. I'm sorry if you are an Italian fan:) )
