mc_squared
Orchestrate! Daleks invade the Proms for an out of this world concert By Daily Mail Reporter Last updated at 10:10 AM on 28th July 2008 Comments (0) Add to My Stories The Proms took on a distinctly intergalactic flavour when Daleks invaded the stage for a Dr Who themed night. Much to the delight of fans, a host of aliens and other fantastic creatures roamed the Royal Albert Hall, where the annual series of concerts is held. Although David Tennant was absent, his Doctor Who sidekicks Freema Agyeman and Catherine Tate took to the stage to introduce proceedings. Enlarge Exterminate: The musicians look on as Davros, Lord of the Daleks appears on stage Agyeman, who plays Martha Jones excitably pointed out that, Tardis-like, the Albert Hall 'didn’t look this big from the outside'. The space theme was part of a drive to make the annual Proms season more inclusive. It was obviously a success with people queuing for tickets at 5am and tickets selling on Ebay for up to £250. More than 3,000 hopefuls were on a waiting list for pre-booked tickets - although only 1,400 got to attend the popular event. Music, performed by the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra and the London Philharmonic Choir, and conducted by Ben Foster and Stephen Bell, was a mix of Who tunes plus series clips and classical works with a space/time theme. Freema Agyeman, who plays Martha Jones presented the concert but David Tennant was absent playing Hamlet Thus Holst’s Jupiter and a premiere of Mark-Anthony Turnage’s cacophonous siren-led The Torino Scale jostled for attention with arranger Murray Gold’s symphonic telly soundtrack. This was not merely a musical experience. During All The Strange, Strange Creatures three Cybermen stomped down the aisles, while assorted Sontarans and Oods — the ones with sausage tendrils for mouths — crept up on fans. David Tennant, who was unable to attend in person because he is playing Hamlet in Straftford, still made an appearance via a giant television screen in an exclusive interactive clip, Music Of The Spheres. Playing the time-travelling Doctor, he boasted: 'I was at the first Proms in 1895. Played the tuba. I was brilliant.' Who's girl: Catherine Tate, who plays The Doctor's companion, Donna Noble, co-hosted the event After the interval, events turned darker as the orchestra played second fiddle to a Dalek and evil Davros, who rose out of the audience. The stalls relaxed, then laughed as Catherine Tate introduced clips of Donna in action before things became serious. The haunting Doomsday, sung by Melanie Pappenheim, hoisted the emotional level to a peak unsurpassed even when the team saved Earth, accompanied by the soaring Song Of Freedom. The show closed with the legendary theme, from hugely influential BBC Radiophonic Workshop- yet it felt more like an afterthought than a climax. Trying to make everyone wonder if it's a trick or for real. Especially Morrissey in interviews. He is definitely going to be someone who says he's the Doctor, and it's the perfect opportunity- the doctor meets his past selves all the time, so why not his future self? notlost92
I've only seen one episode of Torchwood, when Martha gets some bug implanted in her stomach or something... It was a while ago, I can't remember  I've just been rewatching lots of David Tennant episodes since he announced he was leaving- They're so good! The Girl in the Fireplace =
Space Cadet
 I love the Girl in the Fireplace so much it's the one episode that's been on my mp3 player for a while now. It's basically the reason I can still be excited- that was the second part of Steven Moffats 3 Hugo hat-trick. :nice: Torchwood I have a weird complicated relationship with- it can be amazing sometimes and well pretty... something... others. Very dark and very adult, but always fun when Jack is around. :D I prefer the Sarah Jane Adventures- they're aimed at kids but really well done and lots of fun. notlost92
Doctor Who on your mp3 player? *is jealous* And I think it'd be exciting if the next doctor was a different race, since it's about time  Of course, I'm still in denial that David Tennant is leaving, so... seeyousoon35
I am new here but just wanted to poke my head in and say I love Doctor Who. I only just got into it at the end of season 2. I know it is cliche, but I think "Blink" still is about my favorite episode. Also I love "Utopia", "The Sound of Drums" and "Last of the Time Lords". Anyway it is nice to meet fellow fans. Much better for Christmas than last year. :nice: The Davids looked like they had fun together.
