Arcade Fire man to lecture at old university

Plus get the band's latest album 'The Suburbs' for a quid

Arcade Fire's Will Butler is set to give a lecture at his old university.

The multi-instrumentalist is addressing the Northwestern University in Chicago on November 2.

Butler is set to talk about how he has blended a career in music with social activism at the institution's Center For Civic Engagement, according to student website Northbynorthwestern.com.

According to organisers it is possible Butler "might treat students to an impromptu performance, but nothing is planned yet".

Butler majored in poetry and creative writing while at Northwestern University, where he also was a radio DJ and editor of the literary magazine Helicon.

Arcade Fire planning writing session ahead of spring 2011 tour

Will Butler reveals band's plans as he returns to lecture at his old university

Arcade Fire's Will Butler has said that the band will tour in Spring next year.

The band have gigs booked up until their UK dates end in mid-December, but the multi-instrumentalist told The Wall Street Journal that they would "definitely" be announcing more shows for the first quarter of 2011.

"We'll definitely be touring next Spring because the weather will be nicer to drive around in the springtime than the winter," he said.

Butler was speaking ahead of a talk yesterday (November 2) at Northwestern University in Illinois, which he used to attend. He talked about the band's work with the Partners For Health charity.

He also said that Arcade Fire would start new writing sessions before the spring dates.

"We're going to experiment this winter," he said. "We're not quite sure what we're doing in February, but January and March we'll probably be off. We've never successfully written or done anything really in a middle of a touring cycle."

He added: "We're going to see if we can maybe get into a different rhythm besides the tour, tour, tour, rest, rest, rest, tour, tour, tour, rest, rest, rest. We're going to see if we can intertwine them a little bit."

they better come here in 2011 :bomb:

A cross Canada tour would be nice. Or at least visiting somewhere east of Montreal.

Or they could not skip the Netherlands on their next European tour. :escaping:

They cannot skip the Netherlands, indeed. It's quite centered as well :D

Just wanted to refer to this tumblr, because they have some Apparatjik fun in it as well :D
