The R.E.M. Thread

:D It's really cute. There's an interview with Michael and Coldplay somewhere on youtube. It's very cute. They've performed together too!

Oh my god! I didn't know there was a connection there - I thought that song was about Blur's relationship with their record company EMI. That is so cool. I'm gonna search for that. I love that song.

Yeah yeah, I think it's about both it stands for EMI and then I think maybe the stipe thing was a joke maybe or something but Damon def. mentioned REM when talking about the name of that song too.

:awesome:

Can't wait to hear the Patti Smith track!

I think this has the potential to be not only the best of the post Berry albums but maybe even one of the best released while recording for Warner Brothers.

Bump. Have to say that i love the album. It's up there with New Adventures in Hi-Fi.

Too bad they decided not to tour this record.

Bought their new album just recently and thought it was really really good. Arguably their best post Berry.

"Post-Berry"

A phrase that means something only to REM fans! Not to mention a statement that I agree with. Although I did like Accelerate a lot and I have a soft spot it my heart for Up just for trying so hard...

My favourite tracks from COI: UBerlin, Mine Smell Like Honey, Alligator_Aviator_Antipilot_Antimatter, Blue (loved the Discoverer reprise).

Kinda dissapointed about the lack of promotion of this record, especially in Australia.

Yeah there's almost no promotion at all which is a shame for such a good album. Uberlin's fantastic but I also really enjoy Discoverer as well.

WTF?

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :bigcry:

Nooooooooooooooooo.. :bigcry:

:(

Sad times, mainly because I consider them to be one of my first quality rock discoveries years ago. They've been rocking long enough to appeal to multiple generations.

Personally, though, I feel it was probably time for them to move on and that they made the right decision to leave with dignity and a solid legacy. I've noticed some bands become purely nostalgia acts after existing for several decades. I would like to have seen R.E.M. live one day, but not like that. So good show, boys. Thanks for everything.
