Random Coldplay thoughts...

One thing I took notice of in the AROBTTH era is that they seemed to "finish" their songs. What do I mean by that? Well, take The Scientist for example. Notice, how it starts with just the right amount of repetitions of the beginning part. It repeats two times which is perfect. I find that many pop songs nowadays only do the part one time. Even in some other songs that aren't pop, like "Unsaid" by The Fray, only do it twice when it should have been repeated more. I find that in AROBTTH especially they make a point of "finishing" their songs this way, opening their songs with the right amount and closing with the right amount. Another example: In My Place. The drumbeat repeats twice, and the guitar riff after repeats four times. Then the vocals kick in and the song shifts. It's a perfect intro that's longer. Warning Sign also is especially finished, since there's numerous times not just at the beginning, but throughout the song where they "finish" the song. The guitar part at the beginning repeats four times, the instrumental part after that repeats 4 times, the last two times with added strings, then they go ahead and switch back to just the guitar while adding the vocals. Then, throughout the song they do these little things to make the song just a little longer. Repeating a little thing twice when you wouldn't have thought it. Extending the song to even longer than it originally was. You think the song's done, but they add just another bit to it. Then the end I love, because most of us would probably think that it'd repeat 2 times, 2 with just the piano than 2 with the vocals. But no, they do that little thing to fill the song and finish it, making it four times with the vocals. I love the AROBTTH era for this and it's in most of it's songs. It makes the song extra enjoyable to hear those extra bits added on where you wouldn't think, or making a longer intro/outro than you'd normally think. It "finishes" the song. See what I mean? A song at it's full intended length, without it getting all shortened or anything. This was also present in the X&Y era too. They didn't purposefully add anything on in the Viva era but they made Reign of Love longer. Then the others I can't notice anything, maybe even shortening at some points which I admit sometimes get to me when I need to hear the song in it's full intended length. Just thought of an example right now: Charlie Brown. It also has a beautiful piano outro. IMO it should be repeated two times though. This is a less bad example but still an example. Hopefully you know what I'm getting at here and see how in AROBTTH and X&Y especially they made sure to go that extra steo to make their songs that bit longer :)

  • I just wanted to say, after 5 years of being part of the Coldplay fandom, first on Coldplaying, now on Coldplaying, Twitter and other platforms, a wonderful thing happened today: Coldplay followed me

  • I ran away
    I ran away

On this day exactly 5 years ago, a young and innocent person who was just getting really into Coldplay wanted to sign up on a forum called Coldplaying. Faced with the question of what to pick as a use

  • Today exactly 5 years ago, I joined the Coldplaying community and I don't regret that that. To be honest, it's probably one of the best things that have happened in my life! I had never thought I woul

Oh, after all your "subtle hints" that I did notice, I still managed to forget to wish you a happy birthday.

So, 1 day too late but:

Happy birthday to you. :vuvuzela:

I'm currently attending a workshop programme for my job and we had to introduce ourselves. As it's about online marketing, I thought it would be fun to imagine myself as an online ad. I chose to be a banner at Coldplaying.com and explained how it combines my job (something traditional within marketing) with my personality (love for Coldplay). :D

So here's a new random question for those of you music gurus: I thought about comments here that Chris's voice was off at last nights Brits (I agree) and that Will nailed Beyonces part of Hymn ( sure did!). Are any of you able to detect if or when Johnny or Guy ever make mistakes? I would never know, since I don't play guitar and am not familiar enough with their parts. They always sound perfect but none of us are. I can sometimes tell if Chris missed something on keyboards because I play but I'd Will missed a beat it would have to be really obvious for me to hear it. Just wondering...

definitely not a music guru :) but have noticed quite a few times when jonny hits a wrong note, even at the last glasto. i can remember once hearing guy hit a wrong note. but can't remember exactly when. i think he is the least noticeable one. at least for me.

I just got laughed at because I told someone I collect Coldplay CD's.... :(

I want to say I'm sorry that I hardly visit the forum at the moment, and that I didn't respond to a few private messages or threads I should have responded to. Just going through a very stressful and somewhat depressing period at the moment. Funnily enough, I noticed Up&Up has grown a little on me in the past couple days. Hope I'm gonna get it together, somehow.

That's the power of Coldplay lyrics! Somehow they can be related to our own experiences, or some other times we just like the songs. That's why I like AHFOD, I don't want to feel depressed in this stage of my life. I have experience that and it was frustrating. And now, I might feel a little bit down but I have AHFOD and some other songs to make me feel like I'm alive again ;)

Does there happen to be a link or some recording of it? Thxx!!

Check out the newest video on Coldplay's YouTube channel :)

Does anyone have that picture (I think I saw it on here) of Chris with a piece of paper hanging out of his mouth that said in orange comic sans font "Hello Coldplaying.com"?

Was it for real, or did someone photoship that?

Update: I just found it on Coldplaying's twitter account, but is it for sure real?

Just noticed he said "Goodbye and Goodnight" at the very end there....

Funny that you ask about Jonny or Guy making mistakes. I re-watched the Unstaged show Madrid 2011 just a few days ago and Guy hits a really bad note in Politik. Chris' reaction is great - he just laughs, and Guy even smiles.

Could you point out the time of when it happens?

I've jusst listened to this performance for the first time and I must agree that Chris' voice wasn't that amazing this evening (whereas Will really nailed his part ).

But it makes me really sad to hear that some people (not in this post) even begin to speculate if he loses his voice.

I mean, why?

In my opinion everyone has their good and bad days, that's for one, and second, everybody makes mistakes.

Actually I really like it if you can see that a performance isn't perfect because that means it's real and not pre-recorded/edited/whatever.

Now I can be at peace with myself because I've tryed to defend my favourite singer :laugh4:

By the way, what is your favourite song to be performed live?

Did you ever realize that in many live versions of fix you chris sings "when you're too in love to let it show" but in the studio version he sings "when you're too in love to let it go" ? I wonder if there's any special reason for it like he wanted to change it later for some reason...

Lol probably i just have too much imagination :D

When my Coldplay tickets arrived from Ticketmaster by mail yesterday, I hung them to the wall next to my desk. They should serve me as a reminder that I have to work hard in order for my project to succeed so that I can stay in the US until July and see Coldplay ! I hope this will come true !

Oh you just HAVE TO stay!! You will succeed.

I always noticed that and to this day it bothered me every single time :-/

What bothers me a lot more though is that in recent performances he is totally off with the length of these lines. It gets real awkward when the audience sings the correct length and Chris is finished 5 seconds earlier.

There's a kid who lives on my street who looks a lot like Moses.

I was pretty asleep in my car (good thing I wasn't driving) because of all the commercials on the radio. I was somewhat woken up by "Everglow" playing. (????? Coldplay what have you done to me)
