What song initially turned you onto Coldplay?

Featured Replies

Mine was Clocks, but when I heard it, I didn't knew the name, then, some day of 2007 (summer), my dad gave me the name, but I began getting when my cousin had singstar, when I saw the song Speed of Sound by Coldplay, I said "Hey, its coldplay", since that day I started hearing all the time Speed Of Sound and Clocks all the time.

"The Scientist". I had heard their other singles before (Yellow being one of them) but I never knew who sang them until one day I saw the music video for The Scientist and fell in love with it. I started listening to all their other songs, liked every one, and then I found out that X&Y was coming out in a couple of weeks...the rest is history :P

Two Songs:

Clock and Yellow. Pretty sure I heard Yellow before I heard Clocks, but they weren't very far apart for me.

Talk brought my brother aboard 2 years ago :-)

I hated yellow, coldplay i thought they were whatever

then i watched alias and fell in love with God put a smile upon...

i looked it up who sang it and ever since ...coldplay fan!

yellow:D

Yellow was the first Coldplay song I heard and I loved it! :D So after hearing Yellow all those years ago I had to find out more of the band and listened to more of their songs and thus the Coldplay love began! :P

Either The Scientist or In My Place. I was going through a tough time, and those songs realllly changed my life.

I got turned onto Coldplay after hearing Shiver. my mate told me to check out the 'Shiver' single telling me that they were gonna be the next big band of 2000. I went out and bought it and fell in love with that song (and the b-sides). Shortly after I bought Parachutes and fell in love with that aswell. I've been hooked ever since, nearly 8 years later! :D

Yellow was the first song I ever heard from Coldplay. Didn't like it too much, but it soon grew on me.

It wasn't until In My Place that I began to like them...VERY MUCH. And The Scientist. :nice:

I heard Yellow when I was 11. I was ill or something, and before I had to go to bed Coldplay were on the BBC (I think this was their Glastonbury performance of that year). All I remember thinking was, gosh, I should remember that band and that song.

Rediscovered them when I was 13, Don't Panic just blew me away and still does. It's still my favourite Coldplay song: short, simple, honest, great lyrics. Nothing they've done to this point compares.

In my place

don't know if I already posted here :P

The whole of Parachutes & AROBTTH I think, since I listened to them both in their entirety in one sitting, on a cold December evening in 2004.

But I always liked Clocks & Yellow when I heard them on the radio beforehand. And Speed Of Sound only made me like them more, and made me go looking for their rarer stuff (b-sides and the like).

:D

The video on the beach (Yellow?) and In My Place (if that wasn't the one on the beach!) on music channels on Japanese TV in early 2002...

haven't looked back since! :)

I was thinking about this the other day, coincidentally. I think it was Yellow. I had a free CD from Smash Hits with it on and I would play it over and over, partially because my Dad had said he liked the song and I wanted to impress him with my musical taste. I was 14. Blessss.

The Scientist.

these two girls were doing a science fair project with an upbeat song and a mellow song and theyd have kids listen to both and take thier pulse... and the mellow song was the scientist. and i was just like... what the fuck is this? and funny enough my pulse was higher on the scientist than the upbeat song. so then I went home and spent my entire vacation downloading everything coldplay had done up to that point. it's been pure bliss ever since.

wow this is making me think back...and it's made me realize i almost don't remember what it was like for me before Coldplay! how did i make it through life?!?

I remember one Saturday morning in 2001 watching either MTV or VH1 while eating breakfast, and seeing the video for Yellow. Loving it immediately. So I downloaded all the songs (back in Napster days, sigh). I remember Trouble being my fave, and listening to it over&over. That album was like a security blanket/best friend through some tough months for me in 2002.

By the time AROBTTH came out I definitely was a fan, I got all those songs right away (don't worry, I know OWN all the albums hehe). But I'm not sure which song, GPASUYF or The Scientist probably the whole album, made me LOOOOVE Coldplay and have them become MY band:D. And we live happily ever after ever since...

The first song I heard was Clocks, but I didn't really care for them until I heard Square One.

I remember hearing songs like Trouble, Yellow, and In my place, but wasn't really into that kind of music then, I really liked Clocks, but still didn't really care who the band who performed it were, it wasn't until I heard Speed of Sound for the first time that I wanted every piece of music this band made and then I realised that all those songs I heard all those years ago were by the same band!

The Scientist was the first Coldplay song I heard, and I instantly rushed out and bought both their albums.

I heard In My Place on the radio. Thought it was fantastic. Downloaded it and listened to it endlessly until A Rush came out that august.

My uncle copied AROBTTH for me. That was back in 03 I think... I had previous thought that Clocks was boring (shame on me.. *slaps self*).. and then I bought Parachutes for a fiver and it basically went from there. I think the first song I loved was In My Place, actually :)

I had heard 'Trouble' and 'Yellow' first, but found them quite depressing... then winter came, and I was like 'bring on the blues' and got the album... I also loved 'Everything's not lost'.

Then A Rush of Blood came out and I loved ALL the songs on it - my drive to work in the car was just as long as the album, so I would listen to it everyday on my way to work and back home.

Then, just when X&Y came out, I couldn't stand listening to Coldplay any longer because of all the memories connected with their music. I actually got the album, but never listened to it.

Two years later, 'Talk' was on the radio, and I thought 'I love that song, I should give it a careful try'... and it worked! So I was 'back on'.

Sorry if that was sort of O/T :embarassed:

Well it happened in two stages for me. Firstly there was Yellow which is when I thought wow, these guys are pretty cool! Then I heard Clocks and thats when my obsession began....
