What song initially turned you onto Coldplay?

Featured Replies

Mine was initially Don't Panic. However, it took me half a year to figure out that it was Coldplay. The first song which I KNEW was Coldplay and loved was High Speed. The first song I heard by Coldplay was Yellow and that made me detest them very much so. I figured there was nothing they could create that would appeal to me because that music video really bothered me and the song was so unsatisfying (at the time...I like it...kind of now).

So yeah...when I first heard Don't Panic I was like "whoa thats a killer, dark, edgy song I really like the bass in it." Too bad it took me about 6 months later to find out it was Coldplay after my friend was playing the Parachutes album (this was back in 2001) and High Speed came on and then that was it. It was a match made in heaven from that point on.

So what was yours?

In My Place

I'd heard other stuff by them and liked it, but I fell in love with that song the first time I heard it. I love the guitar, Chris' vocals sound amazing, and the video seemed to be on the telly constantly.

It was one of those songs that just seemed to stalk me - but I loved it anyway.

speed of sound is what made me fall completely in love, but i had heard in my place, clocks, yellow, and don't panic before without knowing they were coldplay or even all by the same band. i thought they were good songs (well, don't panic i didn't like so much...it freaked me out), but it just wasnt the right time for me to get into coldplay then :P

Don't Panic was the one I recognised most when I played Parachutes in the CD Player apart from Yellow. But I instantly fell in love with High Speed

I'm a brand new fan. Violet Hill caused me to have a listen to their new album, and I loved it. I remember really liking Square One when I first heard it when it came out.

I remember hearing yellow and how catchy the song was and not even knowing who sang the song for the longest time.I remember the video too and I thought who is this guy walking on a beach but nevermind minded looking or remember who sung the song haha.I liked Trouble too an didnt even know it was them.I guess every single they came out with got me hooked even more. I really got into them during the A Rush Of Blood To The Head era. Clocks got my attention and The Scientist got me hooked for life!!

I think tha main thing was when I did a work placement in 2002, and heard the whole of AROBTTH album whilst there. GPASUYF was probably the one that did it for me really.

Another turning point was hearing Brothers and Sisters. That song made me become OBSESSIVE. hahahah :nice:

Yellow, when it first came out. I didn't know what band did it, but it was the first time I actually cared enough about a song that I stopped what I was doing for a minute to concentrate on hearing it.

fix you then speed of sound........heard other stuff before but it didnt stick on me like these 2

...hands down, it was Yellow for me. When I heard that song I fell in love and I knew they'd be big!

i can give a list:

Yellow

Speed of sound(i remembered being depressed hearing that song on Channel V for the first time in 2005 in India in some April or May!)

Trouble

these are the most!

and then Square One,Even that Talk and Fix You videos too!

The first CP music I listened to was Speed Of Sound, then Talk, but I didn't even know the name of the band. 4 years later, my father told me "Download an album of a band called Colplay", then I though "OMFG, here comes a piece of crap". Some months later, I finally downloaded the album. The first music I listened to in the album was SoS, then I though "Oooh, now I know how made this music", then I listened to Square One, I fell in love with it.

The scientist.

I remember watching the commercial for the VMAs or some other mtv award and the commercial was the band playing at the hollywood bowl in front of one person. I think it was for a contest or something but i remember him saying something about "this is a song by us" or something i cant really remember but then he jumped into the second verse of "i was just guessing" and then i searched and searched for the song, found it and am now glad i did.

The first song I liked was Yellow. But really the entire Live 2003 CD turned me on to coldplay.

Dont Panic... Cause it was the first song on the album Parachutes... I bought the album because a stranger at Barnes and Noble recommended it. Yellow had not been released as a single yet, by the time it was I was already listening to the Blue Room EP and turning anybody on that would listen...

I had heard Trouble somewhere, and remember liking it, but I was too young to know any better *hides her Spice Girls collection*

And then In My Place came around. And I've been a fool for them ever since *winsome sigh* :P

M.

i remember hearing yellow and really liking it, but i think it was the scientist that got me addicted to coldplay...

I remember really liking The Scientist from hearing it on the radio late at night. Soon after I watched the Grammys and saw them perform Politik with the NY Philharmonic. The next day I went out and bought AROBTTH. :D

I read the lyrics for the Scientist on a website before I heard the song, but I was in love at that point. What really confirmed this was when I heard Clocks on the radio and realized it was them. Not too much later, I finally heard the Scientist. It was A Rush of Blood to the Head's one-two punch that won me over. I got the album not too long after that and I was hooked.

I think for me it was "Clocks," but I didn't realize they were my favorite band until "Speed of Sound."

I remember Fix You and Yellow from Television but hmm.... I was kind of creeped out to know that they actually made MORE MUSIC. like, I heard A Rush of Blood to the Head album one day back in 2006 and it was like, what is this?! I fell in love with the song sitting on my bedroom floor. I remember thinking, "Hm.... this sounds so rockish and not so calm" then I started listening to Parachutes. Wow. good times. :dozey:

Why Yellow of course. I was 8 or 9 and I was up watching South Park and changed the station to Much Music during a commercial and the video for Yellow was on. This was a day before Parachutes came out and needless to say I bought it the next day.

In My Place made me think, "Ohh, this is catchy, I like this". And I heard Clocks and thought that was rather cool. But I think Fix You made me realise, "Ohh, I like this band". Then before I knew it I'd spent £70 for a ticket to see them in Manchester on ebay, despite only knowing a handful of their songs, but I sort of KNEW I was going to love them once I listened to their albums. And I was right! The best £70 I've ever spent.

I vaguely remember liking Yellow alot when it was on the pepsi chart compilation CD mixed by Neil Fox

But I didn't really know it was Coldplay, then I kept hearing Clocks everywhere so I went out and bought AROBTTH, got the last copy from my local ASDA LOL. I loved it and went out and bought parachutes the next day, then I was obsessed and waiting for X&Y for 3 years! :P

so long story short.... Yellow and then Clocks
