Is Keane trying to copy Coldplay??

Featured Replies

well keane is not copying coldplay because they suck. coldplay is so far away of this shitty band.

In your humble opinion ;)

And Coldplay Copied Travis and the Velvet Underground :P

There is hardly anything truly original in music these days

agreed. Travis started the Soft-alternarock movement and Coldplay actually took it to a whole different level. I bet Fran might have a hit out on Chris. LOL.

Seriously though, Chris and the singer of Keane are friends!! They have similar styles. Why is that anyone's fault? Personally I've always thought the Keane is this generation's Queen.

Well, there's pretty much nothing truly original at all. Basically all bands use similar instruments, similar song structures, have at least one person singing in the band's native language, perform in front of semicircular crowds using lots of big speakers, lasers, and rotating lights...I mean, really. :P

If a totally original band showed up, no one would like them because they'd be too weird, and probably awful too. Most of the good bands build off things that have already been proven to work, and add some new stuff of their own to make it different. Keane does it, Coldplay does it, Travis does it...even U2 and Radiohead copied a lot of other groups, though most people don't like to admit it. This doesn't make them bad, because they aren't really copying, they're adding onto what's already there; it's musical evolution. ;)

There's nothing new under the sun, everything can be traced back to an original source;)

The title of this thread is grammatically incorrect.

ARE Keane trying to copy Coldplay.

ARE not IS.

Thats all I have to say on this topic now, cos its so clearly been proved wrong :D

Keane have always made my ears bleed. End of topic.

Some people I know say that Coldplay make their ears bleed.

www.keanemusic.com[/url] and download their new single. That should put your mind at rest.

True, because if that single's anything to go by, they sound like they're now trying to copy Wham!:P

Well I certainly see what you're saying but...

didn't Coldplay's VLV copy Radiohead? Radiohead started the download thing with In Rainbows and Coldplay just copied them with their Violet Hill giveaway. Plus In Rainbows was an artistic experimental album for Radiohead, much like Viva for Coldplay.

It seems like Coldplay copied Radiohead just as much as Keane is copying Coldplay. So I dont think it's anything we havent seen before.

Isn't In Rainbows seen as the album where Radiohead stopped pushing forwards and were just...Radiohead?

Ive never thought Keane sounded like Coldplay. Some, especially here in the States lump them, simply because they are both British and feature the piano....

I enjoy both bands...and definitely do not think they have the same "sound." I guess "mellowish Brit band," can be used to describe both, but lots of bands could go under that banner.

And the whole "copying" thing...come on, you could say that one band copied the last big band before them going back until the beginning of time! But to become successful each needs to have their own thing going, and obviously Keane has that, take it or leave, love it or hate it.

I totally loved both their previous albums, UTIS was really great, but I just downloaded their latest single and...WTF??? I hope that is not what the rest of the album will sound like...

I think the thread was about how Keane were doing things like a free release of their new single. Not about how they sound.

Maybe not copying, just learning.Coldplay is a gorgeous band and what they've done worth learning...If Keane really learnt something from Coldplay ,it just proves that Keane have a good taste:)!

ok, first off I detest Keane and all of their musical output thus far. I hate every aspect of them: their name, Tom Chaplin's wannabe attitude and ridiculous live performances and overpoliteness, and mindboggling lack of style.

right, now i've vented that, i totally agree that they are probably trying to copy Coldplay, purely because it got Coldplay lots of #1s/sales/ok reviews. however, there is the fact that Keane were working on their album around the same time as Coldplay and probably didn't know what each other were doing.

but, in all honesty, every generation's gonna have great bands who start out as wannabe acts. you can trace it: Nirvana started out as wannabe Pixies, Radiohead started as wannabe Nirvana, Coldplay started as wannabe Radiohead, Keane/Snow Patrol are wannabe Coldplay. who knows, maybe ten years from now they'll be reverred as the Pink Floyd of the noughties, i just don't see them as such now.

I love your sig!

Keane have always made my ears bleed. End of topic.

I love your sig!

Thank you then....I'm really tired with the censorship in China sometimes...:dozey:

I think Keane used a lot of blogs and pics so far but Coldplay didnt because remember what Chris said at the Brits. He said everyone is fed up with them so it wouldnt make any sense at all if they shoved loads of pics and journals on their website.

They didn't start the "pick your own price for the album" thing, Jane Siberry was :P

Hey dont you mean Issa? ;) Actually she might have still been Jane Siberry when she did that. I saw her perform a couple years back -and she had to borrow instruments from a bunch of locals. Man I love her! Which reminds me - another show to add to my bloated list of concerts that Ive been to!

keane is ripping off madonna and britney spears in their new song :P
