Viva La Vida music videos! (Videos in first post)

Featured Replies

The second one is pretty funny but I just see it as a nice treat for the fans, not as an official video. I hope that's not the one they send to TVs because as great as the video is, it's still a pretty serious song and I wouldn't want people to get the wrong impression of the band and go through another Violet Hill.

I really have to disagree with that. Because as stupid as it may seem on the surface (i.e. Chris walking around looking like the Burger King), I think it puts a lot of the song's themes right in front of you in an easily accessible way. It shows someone losing all their power and glory and looking like a nutter right in the middle of everything, but in the end, still manages to reclaim something of his former glory.

In my opinion, it presents the song in a MUCH better fashion than the Hype Williams version. And Corbjin has it much more beautifully shot than the stylized MTV version.

The only redeeming quality about the Hype Williams version is the ridiculousness of Chris' dance moves, which are on par with mine. As he said, "Our dancing is more about enthusiasm than talent." And it really shows there. :laugh4:

I'll have to agree with a lot of other people. I liked certain parts of the first one. Chris' eyes just pop out at you. But as a whole I like the second one. Yes Chris is by himself for the most part, but the ending is just priceless.

I'm a bit disappointed with the official one...but the ending was beautiful (Wish the rest of it was like that!).

The cover version, however, is almost adorable. Loved watching Chris prancing around in the king's outfit, hahaha. It's really too bad that the original concept is from Enjoy the Silence.

I have to say that I really liked the official video.. when i saw that rose at the beggining.. i said to myself.. "this is gonna be amazing" and it was.. since the first part.. with the close-up on Chris, and his eyes, staring at a point somwhere in the space, and til the end.. The end of that video it's... just unbelivable. The director made a great job..

and the cover version... it's amazing too... I thionk it's very original.. at least.. i love to see such things from Coldplay.. if they wanted to do it , they did it, i mean... they didn't care if it was stupid or if it was a waste of time. I love that :)

Totally agree.. one of the things that i found... (i dunno how to say this..) it didn't have nothing to do with the video I think... the "movements" right before the "It was a wicked and wild wind..." part

Chris was like... having a convulsion!

i didn't like that

anyway... Both videos are great... I'm totally happy with both of them :D

I really loved them!

K, I liked both videos, but I prefer the second one. Yes, the band isn't in the second one until the end, but I enjoyed watcing the second one more because there was a narrative.

version 2 is soo good. powerful

Love love LOVE the second one! Very creative and original. Wish they made the second one the official instead. It's cute, it's very 'Coldplay', the band that we know and love...

The first one's pretty, but it's a bit boring, tbh. It's very much like Speed of Sound, and In My Place.. It doesn't reflect the band's humour like the second one does... I do like Chris' goofy dance moves though! Heehee! Makes me smile. :)

But I can imagine the criticism the second vid might get from haters. 'Ooh, Chris Martin dresses as a king, how pompous, etc.'

It sucks to hear that kind of statements. :(

Gotta say, the first one was a little boring until the end. Loved the end. The second one is just a bit strange to me. I'm a huge fan of Chris, but just him until the end doesn't sit well. I guess it works for the words in the song, but i dunno. again, i really love chris, but he just looks a bit silly. i guess maybe that was the point?

Just watched the original Depeche Mode video; I get the "video cover" now. The Hype Williams video is great, but looks like a performance I've seen many times live and on tv. The cover is brilliant.

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA IT'S HERE, sorry, i'm a a bit late, the first one is very good, but not what I was hoping, but I was a bit surprised..., the second, well, i'm about to watch...

I feel like the itunes ad is much much better :(

Haha...King Chris and his followers!

FINALLY!

I love the second one! That was just awesome!

I like the first one as well, even though I thought it had some weird bits in it. But it's lovely and very beautiful!

I just did the same now, and yeah, it does make sense now. But I think that if they were to go with the second one, people who aren't familiar with the DM vid (like myself) could still appreciate it.

The Enjoy the Silence video was one of my favorite all time videos, and now this Coldplay cover... it just doesn't get any better than this :D.. I think the Anton Corbijn video is light years ahead of the other one. Very powerful. I hope they use that one for the tv promo.

why oh why would they ever use Hype Williams? this is his first video outside the hip-hop/r&b world and it's been dreadfully executed.

honestly, i think the iTunes advert conveyed more emotion and wow factor in 30 seconds than this one does in 240.

but the 2nd one is excellent

seeing as this was supposed to be the greatest video in the world ever, i can't help but feel a bit disappointed :'(

I like them both.

I love the colours in the first one and the fact you get to see lots of Will, Guy and Jonny.

The second one is clever, although I was never a DM fan, so it maybe lost a little of it's impact on me.

Did Hype Williams direct the I-Tunes ad?

The first one is disgusingly underwhelming.. and I cant believe we had to wait so long for it. Colours, crappy effects, no excitement. Boring.

I love the song, but that was a really poor effort. If I see that version on Channel V this week I am going to throw up in anger.

On the other hand, THE SECOND ONE IS AWESOME!!!! Has the same vibe as 'Violet Hill' video, a really interesting story, keeps the watcher engaged. Really impressed with it and it is exactly what I always envisaged the song to be about.

COME ON COLDPLAY DITCH THE FIRST ONE!!!!
