OMG

i saw the cover vid when i was in london, but i didnt have time to come here and write.

BUT OMG. THAT IS SOOOOOOOO MADURODAM AND DEN HAAG. :dead:

i've been living very close to there for the past month, and my eyes practically fell out of my head. it took me two viewings to realize it, but AHHH if i had just KNOWN when i was there!!!!!! :P

i like the other one too, even if i do find it slightly boring. but i think the cover one is hilarious, even without it being shot in a place i was JUST AT.

my photos of madurodam are here, if anyone's interested to see what the rest of the place looks like. and in the video, chris is sitting between two clumps of houses that look EXACTLY like the house i lived in in holland! :freak: :P

When I first hear a song, what appeals to me is the music, the blending of guitar (Jonnnnnn!), drum, bass, the sound of the singer's voice, and how those sounds together make me feel...

So, the Hype Williams version definitely mimics the feeling of Viva La Vida, but in a visual format.

BUT, once I've gotten hooked by a song's sound, I get curious about the lyrics, and Anton Corbijn's version is definitely about the lyrics. The strong feeling evoked by the sound of VLV is nowhere in the video. Instead, we see a pathetic has-been king, and I think that's the beauty of the video, pitting the triumphant sounds against the visual of this sad character. Corbijn's version tells a story, and is more entertaining than seeing a band lip/guitar/drum-syncing.

As an aside, in Williams' video, there are some shots of Chris where the visual quality of the shot almost looks like some depictions of Jesus, where the sun is shining on his face, almost like he's glowing...

Wow, it's really freaky how many close calls you have had with them without actually meeting them. You havent yet, right? It is just bound to happen any minute.

.

Hype Williams version is now available for purchase on US Itunes.

Is it too much to hope that they'll at least make the other available for purchase eventually even if the masses wont get to enjoy it on MTV?....

Neither video is really that great, though I like the 2nd a lot better. It's done very well, it just doesn't do much.

The first one is crap. Too much Chris, the band is playing instruments that aren't even in the song and nothing really happens. Still, I love the very end of the first one where they break apart. I wish they'd show Chris doing something he's good at (piano, etc.). No offense to Chris worshippers, but I don't think he's a good dancer, at all.

Maybe I need to lower my standards.

I love coldplay.

I love the song.

But the video...

Mmm...

The song is so wonderful...

but the video is so "X"

I mean... nothing special.

what a shame.

but the cover video is....

SO WONDERFUL!!! I LOVE IT

agreed

I like the unofficial one by Anton Corbjin but then I'm also a Depeche Mode fan.

I think the video milesahead89 is referencing in his post is dead on.

You can see another example of what they are talking about from this screen grab. Depeche Mode have used the random roaming king in robes thing in several of their videos.

or play the whole video and see it here starting at about 1.36 >>>

This is my first time watching the video and it just reminded me of Depeche Mode.. where he is standing at a land similar to it and just walking around and sits at the top of the mountain or something. I really liked it though.
