The BRITs 2009 Thread

Featured Replies

It's okay, I still love you Brits much more than my fellow Americans! :P

And we all know British music is the best, even if your award shows refuse to recognize the real talent :dozey:

Awww, that's so nice of you to say! And glad you acknowledge that we're best in the music stakes. :P :laugh3:

Yeah exactly. I suppose this was the last time I watched the brits, and hopefully the last time the boys turned up at the ceremony. Coldplay are just becoming too big for them and the brits don’t even deserve to have our wonderful Coldplay paying a their award show.

But now me and my mate are saving up to get tickets for when they come to Old Trafford. I just wanna go there and sing along to all the songs and show the boys how much we love them, no matter what they win or not win. For us they are still the best and biggest band in the whole universe!! :P

And by the way, welcome to the thread ;)

Couldn't agree more with you! I'm going to be singing my heart out at Wembley in the summer along with 90,000 coldplay fans. They're the best there is awards or no awards, and that's all that matters. :P :D (and thanks btw ;))

Bullshit is all this American can say!!!! They should have won every one they were up for. I hope when they perform tonight the Brits stand up and give them the best ovation possible. I know I will when I see them this summer!!! Just pathetic.

Well seeing as I want to move over there, I think I definitely like you guys more ;) :P

And of course you're the best! Every band I listen to is British

wow, I just realized how skinny Guy is.. he is very thin :\

Wow he is! Extremely!

Well I too am gutted Coldplay didn't win either best album or best single.

Viva La Vida I have played and played more than any other song last year and still listen to it a lot now.

Viva La Vida is not just music: it's a work of timeless art.

The Brits did come across as a bit of Joke in the way the ceremony was presented as well IMO. It comes across as just fluff

The worthy winners IMO were Kings of Leon, Elbow and of course the Pet Shop Boys who I always have liked - especially their 80's stuff.

I don't watch 'the brits' as a rule, I've always thought it was a big pile of elephant dung, only watched it this year for Coldplay, and oh my god, 'the brits' proved me right, they haven't changed, still crap!!!!

Gutted Coldplay didn't win a single thing, after the last year they've had, and to get a slap in the face from their home country, no wonder they spend so much time in the states, they're treated better there!!!

The only people I actually was pleased about winning was kings of leon, and I am not even a fan!!!

The presenting was rubbish, all that fuss over Kylie minogue and the 2 blokes of some comedy programme? They were naff.

have there been pics posted?

edit `I just saw them sorry

What is it with Britain hating success so much? No wonder good people are leaving the country in droves!

It seems Coldplay are choosing to do the same too, given how much time they'll be in the US again next year. and who can blame them?

I've never really thought about how it comes across to others - I grew up watching The Brits and it's had the same kind of tone for a long time now.

Maybe that helps explain Chris's comments about us not being that good at celebrating... our Awards don't have the same "formal" feel as The Grammys...

It was embarassing! Just who were those two clowns?

Britain's supposedly top mucic event and this is how we choose to present ourselves to the world? God help us come the Olympics!

They did used to be very different . I remember the Pet Shop Boys attending with Dusty Springfielf doing a live performance in 1988 - it was v very much a formal, black tie event back then.

We've become the Kings of naffness since.

Honestly, I really liked them - way better than The Osbornes last year! And they were in keeping with the whole tone that The Brits has had for a long while now.

Ideally, I'd like to see Russell Brand back, but that was never going to happen this year after "Sachsgate"

ITA - VLV as a track is just, how can you say, timeless. I still haven't got sick of hearing it and I've listened to it about 10000 gazillion times now. It's a really really great track.

And I agree about the way it's presented - they let two young comedians who weren't (IMO) in any way actually funny, even though they were trying hard to be with their stupid jokes that only 14 year old boys would find funny.

Us Brits have all too often snubbed Coldplay - so many people don't or won't take them seriously - I get laughed at by people of my age for liking them. Urm, they have actually have talent! What's so funny about that? *sighs* They have sold so many records and yet they still don't get the recognition they deserve from their OWN COUNTRY. :veryangry2: Doesn't make any sense to me whatsoever. :\

:laugh3::laugh3::laugh3:

Knowing Britain the Olypics will have to be cancelled because we have the 'wrong kind of rain' that causes everything to collapse :embarassed:

I couldn't agree more about the 'comedians'. Kylie is a class act and I felt embarrassed she had to put up with that idiot beside her.

But how old are you? I've been a huge Coldplay fan for seven years, and have never been laughed at or had a bad comment even once about them. All my family love them, even my aunt who's in her late eighties can only praise them. Where are all these Coldplay haters I read about on here, I'd be fascinated to actually meet one!!

so i take it the brits were not kind to our boys?? is it over..? i have no idea i cant watch it over here in the US

Wow...I just read who won awards and I'm SHOCKED!!!

Elbow? Who are they?!

Girls Aloud over Coldplay? Are you f'in kidding me?!

Katy Perry best International Female Artist?! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Oh. That was for real? *pukes*

I feel bad for Coldplay. No love from their own country.

Coldplay, if any of you guys are reading this....you are ALL amazing!!!! Your music transcends everything!

It's really interesting to read these comments about the brits, because they sound exactly the same as Australians complaining about the ARIAs. Seems like everybody thinks their music awards are lame, lol!

I was hoping that Coldplay would take at least one home. But I like Duffy and Girls Aloud (haven't heard their most recent offering, so can't comment on that) so I don't know. Better luck next time I guess :(

No, very unkind :\

But as Barack said earlier when I spoke to him on the phone 'can we watch it? YES we can' (justintv)

Agreed

I'm in my early 30's and most of my friends hate Coldplay. One commented that he was really surprised when Violet Hill came out 'cos he liked it, and in his words "I always though Coldplay were a little bit gay"

Nice to find another Coldplayer as old as me....:P

At The end of the day it doesn't matter. It's all about the music. I'm sure Coldplay are not bothered.....and most importantly in 10-15 years they will get contribtion to music award...erm, as long as the world doesn't end in 2012.

Many who were there tonight will disappear I'm sure.
