Brits Boost Music Sales (Don't Tell Coldplay)

Ritch and Bally Ames are a husband-and-wife team running a small online marketing company in the music industry. Sky News has asked them to write weekly features on surviving the recession.

An exciting week for British music.

The Brit Awards took place on Wednesday, Duffy walked away with three awards, Iron Maiden surprised everyone by getting Best Live Act, Paul Weller upset the bookies by taking Best Male, and ITV1 picked up an extra 800k viewers on last year's show, six million tuning in. Album sales in the US after the Grammy Awards have jumped 16% on last week, Robert Plant & Alison Krauss, Coldplay & Adele all seeing their albums climb back up the charts. Coldplay left the Brits empty handed, but joined the Killers at the O2 Shepherds Bush Empire to celebrate the 15th Anniversary of War Child, and the launch of the new Heroes album.

We were lucky enough to be invited along, and watched two of the biggest bands on the planet in such a small venue. The encore by Coldplay consisted of another Brit loser, Take That's Gary Barlow, who belted out Back For Good with a unique session band. To top that, Chris Martin invitedThe Killers back on stage, and the two bands performed All These Things That I've Done, the opening notes of the track made the crowd go wild. When Bono from U2 walked on, the place erupted. Gary Barlow was also dragged back on stage by Chris Martin to join in the fun.

Coldplay, Killers, Take That and U2 perform for War Child

Coldplay and The Killers – joined by special guests U2 and Take That – played a rare joint gig in London this week to raise awareness for War Child.

Coldplay and Take That’s Gary Barlow teamed up at the 02 Shepherd's Bush Empire for a special performance of Back For Good, with Chris Martin declaring it would cheer him up after leaving the Brits empty-handed.

‘I think everyone agrees that the band to see at the moment is Take That,’ he declared.

‘We've just got back from Japan, lost all the Brits, it's been a shit day frankly, but it's going to get better. Please welcome Mr. Gary Barlow!’

Then, The Killers and Bono joined Coldplay on-stage to perform All These Things That I’ve Done.

Earlier, Coldplay had performed their own set, kicking off with Life in Technicolour and Violet Hill, before a rousing version of In My Place.

‘Should we play this one or is it a bit commercial?’ joked the singer before launching into 2000 hit Yellow.

Speaking after the show the three frontmen, Bono, Brandon Flowers, and Chris Martin, praised the night and War Child - who release new charity album Heroes this week.

‘Tonight was such an honour, it was one of the most exciting gigs we've ever played,’ declared Flowers, while Martin added: ‘We couldn't have imagined that we'd make this work. The fact that the money raised from tickets have enabled War Child to extend the reach of their work is astonishing.’

Bono concluded: ‘War Child's work is vital and being able to have a moment with Brandon and Chris tonight is a salute to an awesome night for them.'

Didn't have a chance to look back at all the posts and reviews, but I will have plenty of time this weekend.

The buskers outside when we were waiting in line were great, I knew some victims couldn't care less about coldplay and I was proud how all of the coldplayers were singing all the songs, even the few killers' ones :D

Anyway that was the best gig I've ever been, my three favourite bands all together on stage (well technically 3 U2 were missing). Epic is the only word I can use for what happened.

These are some of the pics I took, not the best..and I didn't took any video cause I knew the audio would turn out shit since I was too close to the stage (I just took one at the end of 42 just because it was the only way for me to have a decent shot of Guy :P booo to the victims who took hold of the right side of the stage)

img4054thco4.jpgimg4057thpz9.jpg

After the gig me and my friends went to the back entrance to see if we could catch someone..Guy came out and went straight into the car waiting for him, there were paparazzi outside so I couldn't get too close and say hi , then some unknown vip and Will, who took me by surprise as when he saw me and shook my hand gave me a kiss on the cheek and said he was happy to see me again, my face turned :stunned: I was so shocked that I asked him if he was sure he really did recognise me, and he did, awwww Will the Pooh  ..too bad Kelly called him away, he would have stayed there chatting :disappointed: then Chloe came out, she is beautiful, and Jonny followed shortly and said hi..other unknown vips, then we and the victims spotted Dave and called him, he went inside to call the other killers, who came out to sign things and taking pics, that was great, Ronnie (the drummer) confirmed us they're coming back to play in Italy :D in the meantime Gwyneth came out, and all the paparazzi took pics of her.

P.S. Big ups to Kelly for going up and say things to the first in lines, you're so funny, it was nice meeting you, and also Mich, Lori and Kirsten :nice: and sorry for not coming up to introduce myself to all the coldplayers, I felt embarassed doing it :P

@sophierose: glad to see a victim here, and a DVD

Squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee !!!!

now that would've been the right time to text me :P just kidding !

I'm so happy for you and Will is just the sweetest ! :nice:

Not even slightly (:bomb:) jealous of your fab but mostly ridiculous Coldplay karma :P

there are so many new pages but I dont mind reading them ALL! this thread is just epic ! Thanks for all the pics and vids

Now to feed Jen's little screaming teenie heart a little ;)

In this second pic it just looks like as if Gary was looking straight at Jen and kind of serenading her ... he probably heard her screams :laugh3:

Sorry, Ian ;)

Honey, I'm home.

Well done, glad you made it safe and sound, it was brilliant to meet you and Lori along with everyone else. I'll never forget you dragging that poor guy out of the estate agents to take our pictures!

I won't be home until tomorrow night and it's tricky using the computer here at my parents so I can't wait to get home and download all the goodies.

My daughters are wetting themselves back at home because I made it onto "proper pap sites!"

I'm glad your back as well....just getting ready to ask you & Kirsten if you just about wet your pants or what....The pictures of you guys with him are amazing. I'm so mad I didn't stick it out for 10 more minutes- but glad you were there to save our poor Chris from the papparazzi!! Way to go!!

I also didn't say anything near a proper goodbye! I thought I was going to die if I didn't get back to the hotel suddenly that instant. I left thinking...OMG..Carol, Anna, Kirsten, I didn't even get to hug'em goodbye!!!!!

Okay just to give you heads up that I am now home and the weekend starts NOW for me :)

Which will probably mean, spending the whole night on the forum, talking to all these nice people I've met two days ago :) :) :)

I will soon start resizing my pictures and then posting them here ...

But before I start, I will leave a little appetizer in the Chris thread ::wink3:

Give me some minutes for that ;)

Kirsten, If I don't see some of those awesome pictures of yours soon I'm gonna flip....I'm glad you had fun, it was great to meet yall and I have a great pictures of us at the Bakery .....But I'm going to hold it hostage until I see some of those great up-close Chris pics!;)

It wasn't 10 minutes it was ages after you left, like about 3am. at 2.50 Anna and I agreed that we would wait 10 more minutes then go and then it all happened. When I get home tomorrow I am going to spam this site with reviews etc. I'm still in dreamland. I'm writing it all down in a notebook so I don't forget any details when I'm on the train for 7 hours tomorrow!

@ Kelly

Don't be too hard on yourself :(

Surely we felt so sad when we suddenly saw you moving in that taxi but we knew that there was a very long day lying in front of you and I absolutely understand ...

I felt quite terrible as well as my feet were hurting so much. I was only tipping from one feet to the other to reduce the pain a little.

So when Chris left we hardly didn't get it properly. Just noticed a waggonload of Paparazzi running after someone and then it was said it would be Chris.

He was kind of 'jogging' on the pavement and then crossing the street and at first I thought it wouldn't make much sense to run after him as well, as by the time we would have reached the other side of the street, he would have moved in his limousine already ...

But I guess some of the paparazzi told him that there were still fans waiting for him and suddenly he stopped and didn't give a piss about the paparazzies anymore but kind of had only eyes for the fans which I was amazed about.

He was soo nice, funny and friendly and completely ignored the paps around him.

And he defended me towards a bodyguard who was yelling at me that I shouldn't push Chris (which I didn't). I was so shocked and completely lost and must have stood there with big eyes and my mouth open wide ...

Chris told the bodyguard that I wasn't pushing him at all and that everything was fine with me. Bless him.

I guess that was also the moment when this paparazzi photo was taken where he grins broadly at me, cause I lifted my hand in defense like saying 'sorry, I didn't do anything' ...

Okay ... I will be called Mrs. Spamalot from now on ....

Are there any restrictions in the amount of photos one is allowed to post?!?!

I won't write much, as there are so many brilliant reviews on this thread already and otherwise I've got some swiss cheese in my head anyway, forgetting most of the details ... :(

So let the games begin :sneaky:
