As shown by North Korea and Switzerland organisation is everything. Very very well drilled sides. In fact Switzerland today very much reminded me of Greece at Euro 2004. Earily similar and certainly for me the most impressive performance of the first round. Yet again, I wonder just why Hitzfeld has never become Germany manager.

Having said that about Hitzfeld though, it reminds me that we've got 4 absolute European greats at this World Cup.

 

Capello, Lippi, Del Bosque and Hitzfeld. 4 men who wrote the chapters of European football particularly during the 90s. It's great seeing these men at the World Cup.

RSA is as developped as Argentina. I think they have organized well the cup, they have the infraestructure necessary and I find the atmosphere great, the vuvuzuelas, noisy and annyoing, are just a way of supporting their team, different from the chants we are used to see, that's all.

It won't be that big a surprise but only an idiot will rule out France completely. If the French can bang their heads together then they can beat Mexico well considering the Mexican defence is not exactly pitch perfect and can often struggle defending set pieces which Yoann Gourcuff can and probably will ruthlessly exploit that's if he starts which he may not as Malouda will probably get back in after his blazing row with Domenech. Still - Malouda has had a great season with Chelsea.

South Africa probably being out of World Cup after only 3 games will have the nice side effect that there will be fewer vuvuzela-players in the stadiums and thus less noise. There will, however, still be some South African atmosphere in the form of vuvuzela-players which is good because as some wrote here: Vuvuzelas are part of the South-African football culture.
