I quite like this.

This new direction sounds intriguing

Chris Martin introduces song title: "Up With The Birds"

From: http://www.thesun.co.uk/

COLDPLAY have played it safe for years. Now they're ready to show their rebellious side. CHRIS MARTIN has revealed the inspiration behind the band's risky fifth album is old school American graffiti.

The frontman said: "The ideas come from New York graffiti art of the Seventies where people were expressing themselves with paint. I've spent a lot of my life playing it a bit safe or conforming to something, even though I didn't agree with it.

"So I have respect and admiration for people who don't. It's about being free to be yourself and to express yourself among negative surroundings. Being able to speak out or follow your passion, even if everybody seems against it."

Next you'll be hearing they bought bananas that aren't Fairtrade and have put recyclable plastics into their household rubbish. All this upfront talk sounds as though he's been spending a lot of time with best pal JAY-Z. The Jigga Man has spent years hitting back at his critics.

Chris, JONNY BUCKLAND, GUY BERRYMAN and WILL CHAMPION have had their fair share of doubters too - even though their last album, Viva La Vida, was the world's biggest-selling record in 2008. Chris is hardly at the age when he can get his free bus pass. But he is rushing to complete their new collection before they get too old.

The singer, 33, said: "We're hungry and very fired up. In five years we'll be in our late 30s. You have to have your best work done by then."

He's got a point. Just look at the drop in quality from rock legends THE ROLLING STONES and BOB DYLAN when they hit mid life.

Chris must have been holed up with legendary production wizard BRIAN ENO for a bit too long as his odd working methods have started to rub off on the frontman. He has been obsessing about the letters in the band's song titles the same way DAVID BECKHAM fusses over Coke cans in his fridge.

Chris said: "I'm trying to make sure there are three songs that start with the same letter. On the last album it was L. It might be U this time. One of them is Up With The Birds. It might be a duet, but we don't know who with yet."

After wife GWYNETH PALTROW recently nailed her Glee and Country Music Awards gigs, maybe he should get her involved?

Or perhaps the Jigga Man is lined up for a guest rap? Whoever it is, I'm looking forward to it.

:awesome: the good news are flowing all over!!!!!!!!!! Thx for the head up bossman! I always said I had a good feeling about this album and Chris' words confirms it!

Duet..... Could you guys suggest to the boys tonight Florence Welsh...

Awesome :dead: Thanks!

Please no duet. No Jigga man. No one. Just you four.

Wow this is a lot of news in a short time!

"Next you'll be hearing they bought bananas that aren't Fairtrade and have put recyclable plastics into their household rubbish."

Thanks for the article Ian! :)

Duet..... Could you guys suggest to the boys tonight Florence Welsh...

I strangely agree with you Aurélie...dunno why........ :D

There are LOTS of GREAT artists they could do a duet with, can't wait to know who they're gonna choose! :)

A duet!!! I hope that works... What about Kanye West... He went on record to say that Coldplay were better than The Beatles... But seeing how much time Chris spends with Jay-Z that seems unlikely... How can it be?? This is very interesting. People start making 'logical' guesses...

As far as new album goes it seems very 'german' of sorts. I think that it might bring out the best in them. The "German" connection is very historical. Remember 'One' by U2 was written in Germany. It will be great to see something of that quality come from coldplay.

As far as the title goes... I think that too might be in 'German', What say??

If you read the message posted by Chris, you do realise that the scribbled off text is actually saying that they are making a music video tonight?

Please no duet. No Jigga man. No one. Just you four.

this :worried: no more duets with Jay-Z please,Lost! is enough for me :worried:

Anyway, all this news in so little time kills me :bomb:

I think LP5 will be called "MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!"

If you read the message posted by Chris, you do realise that the scribbled off text is actually saying that they are making a music video tonight?

I saw it too! The boat trip turning into a Christmas light music video :awesome: (we can dream right:?!)

Please no duet. No Jigga man. No one. Just you four.

This, not really a fan of the duet idea:\

^^:laugh3::laugh3:

Thanks for posting Ian:nice:!

I saw it too! The boat trip turning into a Christmas light music video :awesome: (we can dream right:?!)

Back in England... Chris throws a fan off a boat and uses a pistol to kill 'em all for wasting his time...

I like that they are giving us little tidbits of information while we wait patiently (or not so patiently) for the next album. There was no news for so long, and now there's tons of it!

New album name starts with "M". 2 Words... "My @ss" No offense. You can dream right?

'Hurts Like Heaven' and 'Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall'

Coldplay have narrowed their next album down to 15 songs and according to singer Chris Martin are ''trying some risky things'' with them.

Coldplay have narrowed their next album down to 15 songs and are trying "risky things" with them. 'The Scientist' rockers have narrowed the potential tracks for their fifth album down, but lead singer Chris Martin has imposed some strange rules on himself for how he plans to name them.

He told Q Magazine: "We're down to 15.I'm trying to make sure there are three songs that start with the same letter. On the last album it was 'L'. It might be 'U' this time. One of them is 'Up With The Birds'. It might be a duet, but we don't know who with yet. The other two might change."

Aside from song titles beginning with the letter U, Chris revealed there are tracks slated for inclusion on the album including 'Hurts Like Heaven' and 'Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall', which will likely be the album closer.

Describing the sound, Chris added that guitarist Jonny Buckland is coming into his own. He said: "'Hurts Like Heaven' is all Jonny. It only has two chords. The songs are group-y, its guitar-y. Johnny is coming out of his cocoon. We're just trying some risky things."

The singer is keen for the group to push themselves, as he feels they're battling against time to complete their best work. He added: "We're hungry and very fired up. In five years we'll be in our late 30s. You have to have your best work done my then."

Coldplay also announced this morning (25.11.10) they will release a festive track, 'Christmas Lights', on December 1.
