HI :D

my name is Maria and i was your mixtaper....

Review for my tape nicely titled 'The sound of a new dawn'

I'm glad you liked it, my mind tricked me into thinking that the deadline was the 10th so i just kind of threw something together:embarrassed:

1-Cover of Bon Iver's 'Skinny love'. Girl singing (she seems young?), dunno who this is but she has a pretty good voice, she's only accompagnied by a piano. It's a very moving cover!

The name of the girl is Birdy, i don't know how old she is but i agree with you that she sound young.... Yeah she does, and yeah it is :P I found this just about a week ago and i really liked it! i think it was pretty high on the UK charts...

2-Mellow track piano driven, kinda jazzy. Male singing, dunno who this is. I really like the lyrics. Nice track.

This is also a cover, the original is from some musical or something from the 60's ! here its sung by Jamie Cullum who made his own "kinda jazzy" cover :P the title of the song is If I Ruled The World....

3-Still 'mellow'. I like the violin cripping from now and then, still dunno who is this male singing. Nice but I'm not a big fan of it.

Her Morning Elegance by Oren Lavie... i haven't listened to this for a while now, but last exchange i saw that someone had it on their tape and it really made me want to put it on this one :P even though you didn't like it that much you should still see the musicvideo:

4-Accordeon for starter and then wosh of sound! Harmony of voices singing. This song has a positiv feel through it! The vocals are gripping and the melody is joyfull! Nice one.

"Weathervanes and Chemicals" by the norwegian band Team Me.... they'r not very well known but i really like theyr sound and i think theyr getting there :)

5-Some electronica/weirdo song with female synthetised/whispering vocals. It could be featuring in a SF movie. Not a big fan of it but I reckon it's catchy.

Not at all my kind of music but a friend of mine kept listening to this over and over again this fall and i guess that at some point i started to like it:P

the title of the song is Happy Birthday and the artist is The Birthday Massacre...

6-Pretty catchy pop-rock song. Dunno who this is but it's very easy to the ear and radio friendly. Like it.

yeah i really like this too <3 I'm Not Over by Carolina Liar

7- Old french song (30-40's I guess by the sound of it)! Is the mixtaper french?! I am, so no problem to understand that one :) Don't recognise who is singing. This could be part of my grandmother disc collection, I like it.

bonjour :P no i'm not french, im norwegian but i'v been to France a lot of times and i really like it there <3 yeah i know you are... tat part of why i put it in there:P its a track from the Amélie soundtrack. The title of the song is Si Tu N'étais Pas Là (Frébel) and the artist is Yann Tiersen...

8- classic music tune. Seems like either a ballet extract or a movie track. I tend to think of the former. Love it.

yupp. also from a movie:P have you seen Chocolat? its a really cute movie... the song is The Story of Grandmere by Rachel Portman...

9-Piano track with female singing, the song becomes more epic as it goes on with powerful drum beat. I dunno who is singing but it's a cool song!

The female singing is Susanne Sundfør from Norway <3 i really love her!! if you like this you should check out the rest of this album (The Brothel) its really "powerful" and dramatic like this song! the name of the song is O Master.

10-accoustic guitar/folky tune. Sounds kinda like Bon Iver and I like it!

It is Bon Iver..... working together with St. Vincent!!!!! i fell in love with this song the first time i heard it and i never get tired of listening to it <3

Rosyln by Bon Iver & St. Vincent

11-Mellow rock/ballad track. Dunno who this is (again XD). It's radio friendly and could easily featured in a TV show or movie. Nice one.

Steal Me by Jupiter Sunrise :) i dont know if it been in any movies or TV-shows but that is very likely!

12-Nice pop-rock accoustic song. Easy to the hear but it didn't make quite an impression on me...

Hero Of War by Rise Against... i love this song but it actually took me a while! it might grow on you, but i guess it just wasn't your cup of tea -.-

13-Soft track with female singing. Her voice rings a bell, but I can't put my finger on it. It's dreamy and melancholic.

"dreamy and melancholic" just the way i like it :P the artist is Trespassers William, you might know them! the song is called No One...

14- Aching duet between a man and a woman. Sounds like a musical track. It has a 'Fantom of the Opera' feeling (never seen it) but I guess it what it could sound. Nice.

I agree on the 'Fantom of the Opera' feeling ( even thoughi havent seen i either :P ) but it's actually not from a musical..... it called The Big Sleep and the artist is Bat For Lashes.

Overall, a very nice tape, I really enjoyed it!! Curious to know all these artists I don't know!! Thx mixtaper!

tank you for reviewing my tape :)

Why doesn't my mixtape get reviewed??? :bigcry:

I'm trying to be all cool and patient and that but waaaaah it's been aaages :(

I'm working on my review this very moment and it will be up soon :D

Hi there...

finally its' time for my review:D

I really liked the tape!

You did at pretty good job with making the tracks work together and i really like the name "Melodies Underneath Me"<3

I like you'r taste in music.. it's very ( I feel like I used this word a lot while reviewing this tape ) mellow and the tape has a light feeling to it :)

Okay, let's start with the track's then...

Track 1

The National? Sounds a little bit like them, I don't know this song though.....

It's nice, calm and soothing , very mellow:P A good opening track

Track 2

I like this one too:) Its also a kind of mellow track and (to quote my mixtapepartner a-chan) it's very easy to the ear and radio friendly! sorry but it just really fit :P

Track 3

Guess it a nice track, but it's a bit to "sweet" for my taste.... it sounds like she's singing about strawberries and butterflies:sick2:

Okay its not that bad, its actually a quite good, just not mu cup of tea:\

EDIT: it's growing on me, but it's still not really my kind of music......

Track 4

Ooooo...... I like the rhythms at the start, catchy:dance:

She sounds so familiar, but I just can't place her. she's god a cool voice and her own sound which i like a lot :)

Track 5

Again very mellow:P

It's a nice song and i like the guitar that comes and goes and the guy's clear voice......

Track 6

Now I know I'v heard this before:freak:..... but I obviously don't know who ever plays this enough to recognize it so I'm really glad you put it on here :DI'm really looking forward to find out who this is!!!!!!!!!

I like the lyrics and the feeling behind it.... I'm pretty sure the title of the song is something like "Love Is A Song" or "Love Is A Symphony"

Track 7

November Was White, December Was Grey by Say Hi:dazzled:

I really like this song and I got so happy when I first heard it on your tape :) I actually listend to this alot last winter while waiting for the spring :P I'm guessing you'r a big fan of the mellow sound with the soothing male voice!

Track 8

Should I know this song? It sounds kind of mainstreamy.... like something they play over and over again on the radio:rolleyes5:

I like her and she's got a nice edge to her voice but I'm not a big fan of the song itself.... sorry:toilet:

Track 9

I really the opening with the piano and how he starts to sing with a touch of monotoneness ( that not a word is it?.... monotoneness?.... nope probably not but I think it should be ) and the way i develops to the chorus ....

I like the sound of this :cheesy:

Track 10

It stats off kind of dull but it get more interesting.... Its a really cute song and i like the easy nature of the song:pleased:

But that being said this song wasn't really anything more than that for me :whaaat:

Track 11

Wow he's got a special voice.... I really like it though!

He knows exactly how to use it to make it sound cool.... i'm tapping my foot :D that's a good thing right? I like the instruments in the back:wacky:

--mellow :P

Track 12

____,,____

Don't know why but at once the song started playing I felt like I was on a sailboat out at sea a calm and sunny day :nice:

This song has a very relaxed nature and the male singer has as soothing voice<3

Track 13

I LIKE IT <3

i really do i just don't really know how to review it:P

good song........

Track 14

Whistling  Sounds kind of retro but it's probably just made that way!

I really like the chorus ! It's cheerful in a good way (dos it make me a depressing person to think that cheerful isn't always good?) :P

After I heard this song the word pumpkinpie got stuck in my head XD lol

Anyways I gonna take a wild guess and say that the name of this song is something along the lines of "Let Me Go Home" or maybe just "Home" :surprised:

Track 15

<3 Love his dark and mysterious voice........

Hmmm.... when i got the the chorus this song started to sound damn familiar!!!!

Grrrrrr:veryangry2: dont you just hate that? It right here on the tip of my tongue....

well, well i like it a lot, its got a kind of edgy sound to it and the way it fades away makes it a really good closing track :)

I'm looking forward to see who the artist's are:mellow:

I meant to ask you about the names - so is Andrianjaka a completely made up name? 'Cos I was Googling it to try and find clues to who the mixtape maker was :laugh3:

I'm definitely going to check some more music out from here, so thankyou again! :D

Hey, thanks again for the tape! I really enjoyed it :)

I can't believe I didn't recognise the Crookes! I got their last album a couple of weeks ago and really enjoyed it; fun band!

I've heard of a few bands on here (Wavves, Sleigh Bells) and had heard of good things so thanks for helping me sample them. I'll be checking them out for sure, as well David Ford and 41st and Home (do pass on the message that it was enjoyed!

Thanks again (again) :nice:

I'll write up my review at some point this week. I haven't had an hour and half to sit down and write about the mixtape yet haha.

Nice mixtape!

Thanks!

Don't let Eddie see this!

Haha, why is that?

I would like to listen to this. :)

Oooh thanks. Here's a link http://www.sendspace.com/file/a772zd

I will write my review Tuesday I am thinking. Sorry for the wait. Just busy and out of town at the moment.

wait... did I have you before? or did you have me?

I forgot :|

I made your mixtape (8th mixtape). am I wrong?? anyway,It was long time ago :D

To my mixtape maker, I an enjoying the tape, just on my second run through now. Seeing as it took so long to get here, I might as well take my time listening to it so I can write a review that reflects the tape well. Anyway, I would just like to say thanks and I will get around to writing a review sometime this week.

Awwwww I'm the only one without a mixtape still :disappointed:

I'm sorry mixtape maker, I promise to review your tape soon

"Both of You, Dance Like You Want To Win!" (I fucking love Japanese song titles <3). Composed by 鷺巣 詩郎 (Shiro Sagisu if you prefer to Westernize). Indeed it's from an anime, from my very very favoritest anime ever, Neon Geneses Evangelion (it's pure art and gorgeousness, you really truly must watch it. Fact. The soundtrack is gorgeous, the animation is gorgeous, and it's super deep and thought-provoking and just great.

Sure I watch NGE. It's AWESOME!!! Though the ending is mentally ill

Bah! Shame on you. "Fire Flies and Empty Skies" by God Is an Astronaut, which is an absolutely amazing post-rock band that comes up with the best fucking instrumentals ever. But if it's not to your taste, I wouldn't recommend looking up more by them, because all their stuff is pretty much in this style.

Imma avoid them like plague

Hahaha! It is French, but it's Acadian French, which is almost a whole different animal from regular, standardized French. The song is "Enfant Spécial," the band is... well, here's a picture first. Be forewarned, imo only the guy on the right is cute.

RadioRadio_RichmondLamb_480px.jpg

While the other two are far from my perfect guy, I'd say the cuteness of the one on the right is enough to tell you the band name: Radio Radio. They're pretty indie and shit, and Canadian, so I imagine Briggins is smiling proudly on me right now. (Actually, the pic's from his blog. Haha)

NOOO!!!! Okay, I'm going to keep my fantasy of 3 Tom Hardys rapping in french

Fuck yeah bro. Janelle Monae is amazing. Just, augh. Good to know you like her!

She's officially my wife now.

The Ting Tings??? Da fuck are you smoking?? Hahaha. This file was protected or something... I tried for quite a while to get it to change and then just decided to get my mixtape in on something resembling time. I dunno if you already listen to Deerhunter or not, but listen to the rest of the Flourescent Grey EP (plus their whole discography sans their first album, which is terrible) -- it shan't dissapoint.

Seriously. This song sounds like the kind which if The Ting Tings covers it would sound like it's their original song.

Hahaha, this is almost cheating by reusing artists, because Atlas Sound is the solo project of Bradford Cox, the lead vocals/guitar for Deerhunter. It's off the album Logos, which is fucking brilliant. I heavily heavily heavily recommend the song "Walkabout" because it's fucking great and it also has Panda Bear guesting so how can you go wrong?? I almost put it on the tape but then I remembered I think I'd put it on another, so I was all like, "wups, better not do that." I'm sorry about the weird structure but Bradford Cox/Deerhunter are just SO EXPERIMENTAL AND INNOVATIVE, YO, nuthin' I can do about it.

Then you should check BOBBY ;)

This song isn't just cute, it's fucking adorkable! I love it really lots. I always found it really uplifting. "Lovely Allen" by Holy Fuck. Gooood band. Eddie was obsessed with them for quite a while before he converted to Four Tet/MF Doom/Daft Punk/etc.

The song contradicts the band name

Not a bad guess! But not correct, either. "You, Me, & The Bourgeoisie" by a duo called The Submarines. It's off the album Honeysuckle Weeks, which is a super cute and fun album. I'd recommend it if you're in the mood for a bunch of nice indie pop, but I bet it gets old quickly -- I've been trying not to overlisten it so that it doesn't.

Definitely the kind of music I've been listening lately. The sounded catchy, and they got you lured, and you listen to them, and then the got you bored. That's why I've been trying to be more critical lately. But alas I failed :disappointed:

Too bad! This was sorta risky, but I just really love this song too much to not put it in. But yeah, kinda a weird decision to put in electro-J-pop, generally speaking. :P The band is 元気ロケッツ (Genki Rockets if you like to anglicize and/or know how the fuck to pronounce anything), and the song is called "Star Line," but it was remixed by some fucker or other called Stratos. (So if you wanna keep it and know how to categorize it, the official title is "Star Line (Stratos Mix)".)Saw it in a trailer for an upcoming video game called "Children of Eden" and fell in love with it. I think I get your not liking it though.

I remember the days when I used to listen to J-Pop and J-Rock  Where did that person go :|

Hah, I actually see where you're coming from! This song is fan-fucking-tastic, isn't it? I love the chorus and shit. I'm so glad you like it. :D "Let it Rain" by OK Go, off the album Oh No, which if you like this/any of the rest of their work I heavily recommend getting. Most of the songs on that album are more upbeat than this, but still, it's a good album

To date I only listen to OK Go while watching their video. Basically I just wanted to see what would they do next. Oftentimes it distracted me from actually listening to their music. I should start now.

It is in English, but also in whistling! :D "Scythian Empires" by Andrew Bird (FANTASTIC) off the album Armchair Apocrypha (REALLY FUCKING FANTASTIC). Please do me a huge huge huge favor and get Armchair Apocrypha as well.

I just googled who the backing vocalist is on this track just for you. Her name is Haley Bonar, and I've never heard of her but she's pretty great in my book!

I have like 2 other Andrew Bird songs, and those are #greatandstrangeidontreallyknowwhattosaybutithasthatkindofquality (sorry about the hashtag :shame:)

I'm really glad you enjoyed it bar Star Line. It always makes me feel great when a mixtape goes down well. :wacky: I really hope you check out the albums I mentioned cuz they're all really great omgg~~~

yeah so far it's te strangest mixtape I've received.

Do you like how I made everything bold and blue so it was easy to see?? I try so hard for you people.

you...:dozey:

Mix MP3 Review

55 minutes of music in one handy mp3 file.

1 - I have no idea what the band or song is, sounds good though

2 - Another good song which I don't know, the voice seems familiar from somewhere.

3 - Another track which I don't know sounds a bit like jay-z style rapping.

4 - Kayne West? Way too sweary for my tastes, sorry it's rubbish.

5 (I think) - Good sounding intro after the rubbish of that rap song, but turns into another rappy song. If I had the option I would hit skip as I dislike most rap on grounds of it all sounding the same.

6 (again I think) 15-50, good intro again, good instrumental track

7- Another instrumental intro, sounds good again, nice smoothing music

8 - I say a pray, good track with some good lyrics.

9 - Good introduction, good song, lots of Wows

10 (I think) - another instrumental, I like my lyrics.

11 - 34:10 - good introduction, but another instrumental :(

12 - Around the 40 minute mark - could this be the first song in a while to feature actually lyrics? Doesn't sound like it, sounds like a live recording as there is crowd noise in the back-ground, daft-punk? Yes daft-punk with one more time, although it could be track 13 around 46 minutes, it's all merged into one.

13 - 49 minutes, good sounding intro, sounds a bit eno-like.

14 (53 minutes), good ending song, but another song with no lyrics

Overall, 3/10, the rap at the start then all the instrumentals at the end really didn't sit with me, maybe it's the weather making me evil, sorry mixtape maker
