It might be easier to tell people what you don't listen to. For example, when people ask me that question I just say, "I'll listen to anything but country."

no coldplay fans im not talking to you guys i was there too, i just said "COLDPLAY :D" but now i actually listen to other artists and thats my problemo

Just tell them a few bands that you like, and if they haven't heard of them, they can look them upp.

I just say alternative, and people are like, "Oh, cool!".

Most the artists I listen to are considered alternative, but indie is stupid. I used to be one of those.

In Taiwan, people will say they listen to Taiwanese songs, Japanese songs, Korean songs, or English songs.

I will say Coldplay first. And I also like to listen to music especially it's from UK.

Will someone tell me what the fuck "alternative" means?

It's a bullshit term.

Why do we even need genres? The art would be so much freer to evolve if it weren't walled.

I just tell them that I listen to the kind of music that inspires me and influences me to proceed with whatever I choose to do with my life, and if you have a problem with it, then I'm sorry, there's nothing I can do...

I usually say "anything but the electro-dance-pop-whatever that you hear on the radio", but that's not true, since I hate many other genres, but it'd be hard to go into full detail. If they want specific genres I'll just say "rock", or if they want artists I'll say "Coldplay and U2".

I listen to all sorts of genres, but mostly just name artists I like

Who Coldplay Is To Most Teenagers

I always just say Coldplay, they are really all I listen to. Sure I'll like a couple other songs by other artist but Coldplay actually makes more than 1 good song lol. People would usually respond with one of the following:

1. Are you serious..?

2. So you don't listen to Heavy Metal/Rap??

3. Oh I love Paradise!!! *facepalm*

4. They are too boring

I've only met 1 over person who new more then 5 Coldplay songs in my school lol. I love the fact that I'm better than everyone else :D

Me 2!

You should come join us over on the U2 thread...if you have not already.

;)

I say Coldplay ofcourse, why would I say anything different? I am f***ing proud to be a fan!

Almost anything and everything and more recently music made about ponies. (Ok I often keep that last part to myself)

After spending the entire week painting my appartment with music accompanying me, I realised that don't only listen to Coldplay and Rush, but also some grunge, a lot of classical, a lot of lounge and jazz. So if someone asks what I listen to, I say both Coldplay and Rush.

I tend to say a genre that would cover most of the stuff I listen to. (Seems like most people class a fuck load under indie these days, so I just go with that).

Then I'm like "you know? like this band and that band"... with my eyebrows raised in hope that they know them, haha.
