Like I'm not even sure where I've heard it, but somehow I know all the words to sing along

I actually took some time to educate myself on past performances today hehe And I really did like most of them! I do like a well organised show where the music is one but not the only element. I don't think Beyonce or Mars were among the best though or most spectacular even imo.

But speaking outside the Super Bowl, I don't get why Beyonce or Bruno Mars songs are so popular or hailed as such high artistry...like I said I must be missing something here, cuz sure I like a couple of their songs (couple meaning two LOL), but even those I like are nowhere near artistry...more like a good catchy pop song at best. Maybe its just the R&B genre which is totally not in resonance with my ears...

i agree with you there. beyonce is a great vocalist. bruno seems like a capable songwriter. other than that, yeah not my cup of tea either. but with beyonce, i think the whole persona she has built up contributes to this. and again, she is a vocalist with an army behind her. has the sort of manufactured artist aura about her. like katy perry. but that's just what i feel. anyway, have to say that she is a force live.

Yes, I hear ya, but almost everyone in the world also knows the Happy Birthday song...doesnt make it quality or artistry, just a catchy tune *LOL*

I agree about the persona being the real "selling point" here, not the music. Ditto with Katy Perry (though her music is slightly more palatable to me). I don't particularly like the image Beyonce has or tries to portray, its not my cup of tea either and live, though she puts up a really good show from what I´ve seen, she looks almost slightly scary...and not in a good way *LOL* That said she has an amazing voice, no detracting any points there!

Kind of an arrogant tweet by Bruno

Oh wow...Coldplay may be too humble for my taste, but this guy could learn a thing or two about humility from Coldplay!

Im starting to think that its an issue with lots of popular performers...they really get caught up in all the praise they get, gets to their head and they are swallowed up by it totally. Pretty sad. Even sadder perhaps is that the majority cant seem to see through that.

Did BM give the middle finger to Coldplay ?

Well regardless I really am not excited at the prospect of giving up Coldplay time to hear some Uptown F**k (yes, pun intended)

just what we were talking about. this is a comment from that billboard article..

Coldplay is so weak to yield the Superbowl stage to much more popular artists, like Bruno Mars and Beyonce who were just at the Superbowl and were not gone long enough to miss.

Did Coldplay not think they could command the stage as the main attraction? Very disgusting to see a chosen main performer subjugate themselves and show such a lack of confidence, ego, and boss status.

Beyonce isn't even performing the Coldplay song. Performing a new song. Why allow people to leech? The only thing people will talk about the next day is Beyonce, not Coldplay. SMH. Weak.

Im loving my american friends and also fully respect my half american genes, but guys, is F still a "bomb" in the USA? In 2016? *LOL*

Chris Martin Drops F-Bomb During Coldplay's Super Bowl 50 Press Conference

Let's just hope he doesn't accidentally cause a wardrobe malfunction with Beyonce or something :D

(or apologize and deprecate himself any further, really....)

Yes, unfortunately it's still a no-no here in the states, especially if it's broadcast on public tv or radio. There are FCC laws about swearing in public broadcast, but I don't think that press conference was public. If it was, the producer could get heat too for not censoring it. Thanks to Janet Jackson's wardrobe. malfunction a few years ago live broadcasts are usually on a 7 second delay

Well...depends who you ask. There is a certain renewed fundamentalist Christian sensibility tied to politics now that would say yes.

I have full respect for the Christians as well, but I have very little respect for hypocrisy :) You can condemn the F-word, dislike it and whatnot but to call it a "bomb"? That implies that its a shocker, a word rarely used and heard , when in fact in daily life its hardly a bomb...so its the hypocrisy that gets to me, not the actual opinion about the word.

There are laws against that? hahaha Wow...The "beep" sound hurts my ears far more than the F-word ever would *LOOL*

I find it kind of strange too but I'm getting the feeling the band only wants to play what people know. Remember, they are playing in America and I think they rather play songs everyone can sing along to rather than play a new single. I am curious what we're going to get from Beyoncé though...

More than that, this is a crowd of sports fans, not a crowd of music fans, so as much as it's a cool "show", the majority of that stage is clueless as to what great music (other than the obvious hits) Coldplay has to offer. So they gotta dumb it down for the audience, which is lame, and why I am not excited for them taking on the offer to play the halftime show. That and I don't think they are even football fans themselves!! Pretty strange gig, but I'm sure I'd say yes to it too considering how much they are probably getting paid for this.

Ah ha yes...exactly these arguments. I guess most people assume its because Coldplay are not capable or confident to hold the show all by themselves, when in fact , from what they have said, it was a wish of the NFL to feature previous performers because this is the 50th Super Bowl. Unfortunate decision imo but I don't think Coldplay could have said no to that....

From what I understand about the Super Bowl though its not just for sports fans...its like a tradition for a lot of americans (over 100 million watch it I think). Even people who don't care about football on a day to day basis tune in to watch the halftime, so its a much wider audience I think than strictly the people in the stadium and/or football fans

Guys, why again are we so SURE there won't be a HFTW? I know what Chris said in that interview, but.... I must have missed something about why we think queen B will do a new song. I don't believe it for a minute. She and King B represent the past element of the show.

Hadn't thought about it that way. Maybe.. But I kinda still think the majority of the people interested in it are the sports fans, americans are insane over following their sports and the Super Bowl is pretty much the biggest game of the year.

Well Europeans their football too hehe But incidentally I was wondering why the Super Bowl is the greatest sport show there and not the baseball final or something? I thought baseball was the quintessential american sport.

King B ? BB King at the Super Bowl? I had no idea *LOOOL*

And about Beyonce, someone said on twitter I think that she rehearsed without mic turned on or something, thus hinting that it might be a new song she´d sing.

Too funny. Just trying to match up the status they are being given for this. Oh that off mic could also be HFTW so no one finds own Chris was kidding! LOL!!
