I like Lovers in japan but I think the production is not really good. To my ears this song always sounds a bit muffled and not as clear as the other tracks on Viva.

did you know that jonny wrote the middle part after chris snapped at him to go finish the song during a lunch at the bakery? chris' mom afterwards was cross with chris and said he shouldn't speak to ppl like that

Interesting fact!

Ahhhh I love Lovers in Japan!

That marching tempo :) Soldier on indeed!

Okay time to get sentimental.....Lovers in Japan is the song that got me hooked on Coldplay!

My (supposed) first Coldplay song! :embarassed:

Holy this song sounds so Mylo-ey.... fits right into Mylo

Once again the bass is a stand out!

"keeping my head down to see what it feels right now...i have no doubt one day we´re gonna get out"

Such an amazing line! So rebellious, so strong...never give up!

More like a cross between Mylo and Viva IMO. But it's understandable as this was one of the last songs written for the album... they were very much crossing into Mylo at this point...

btw I HATE the line "Soldiers, you have to soldier on" because it sounds so anti-pacifistic and against Coldplay's own beliefs...

Soldiers are not only those who go to war....it can be any of us who have to soldier on some hardship.

BTW the intro to this song sounds almost exactly like the part in Major Minus from 2:05 to 2:35... just sayin

Appreciating Jonny's work on this album much more, suddenly! No wonder he's my favourite member

I like the live version even more because I can hear Guy and Will on the backing vocals perfectly.

While listening to it was also the first time I told another person that I like Coldplay

After the sun will come out...WOW! :) Wall of sound and that guitar!

If that's the interpretation I am all for it, but I'm not sure that's what they meant....

lovers in japan was written after a jet lagged insomniac morning it has been said.

The guitar right here is so great.... :D

Yeah! It also goes so well right after Major Minus on the MX tour.

I love Will's drumming at the end...especially the part when he hits the cymbal twice in a row

The Intro to this song is so... haunting in a way.... I don't know. It's great though. I love how the magnificent Reign of Love follows after!

ahh the lullaby..... sway ppl :)

Thats certainly how I always interpreted it. Also because it comes after "lovers". To me its always meant soldiering through anything hard in your life..we are a soldier in life too sometimes even if we bear no firearm :)
