people have been trading that around along with a demo/full version of Poppyfields and Cemetries of London alt mix

It’s real or fake?

There’s mixes for Cemeteries, Life In Technicolor, School / Rainy Day, and Poppyfields, it’s unknown and debated whether they’re real or not. They actually were technically released (unofficially) if I remember correctly, some small EP called “Viva La Vida Recording Sessions” or something so they’ve been out there for a while, but their validity is unclear

Real or fake I actually do really like the Rainy Day and Cemeteries mixes, they actually slap ngl

honestly never heard of those mixes or such until a month or so ago so i'm doubting their validity... but who knows, i'm not a source

I’m curious as to how many of the Viva piano demos made it into a somewhat finished state or at least a more fleshed out demo. The only one I know that did is obviously Lovers in Japan.

I am 100% sure The Man Who Swears has a full band version. The song has been present in various tracks early version or itself finished. This means the song was considered various times and I don't think that coldplay would consider a song various times but not make a more polished version of it in its original era.

I would kill to hear a viva version of man who swears, I’m sure I’d like it more than POTP. Even if I do like that song also.

Yeah tho I don't think that people aside from producers and the band have that not even the people with MX stuff.

you'd be shocked at what some people with fat wallets can get

Yeah I know that some people have some crazy stuff like MX or X&Y but not that definitely maybe some other VIVA stuff but not that.

I think it was going to be major minus at some point

yep, that demo was called "SILENCIA", it's a shame they didn't release it then, maybe then max martin wouldn't have ruined it with overproduction

How similar was it to Man who swears?

lyrics taken from Mylo notebook:
There's a man who swears he's God

But I'm pretty sure he's not

There's a man who walks around

Like he owns the fucking lot

Takes his time

A playing with your mind

Crocodile clock

You must

It's just work

It's not easy / hard

All the while

Tell you that you're climbing

Pulling the ladder apart

Saw the boss hogg

Oh interesting, I wonder how that evolved into major minus

Man, Mylo and viva era songs are just something else man. I can only hope they release any unreleased songs from those eras in the future.

Viva was and probably always be the peak of their creativity

Rainy Day came on shuffle earlier and I thought "man, this is why I love Coldplay so much"

I think MotS is their peak, but we never can see that creativity. I wish I could see the version of MotS that had Earthling, UFO, and other songs like that

Oh easily. We’re lucky the prospekts march ep exists. 5 extra songs from that era than we would’ve had otherwise.

Yeah. To be honest, I completely agree with the band's sentiment nowadays that they want to make the music that they want to, without caring about what people think; but at the same time, I remember that Viva la Vida was made almost as a response to the criticism that they received for X & Y, and then Viva la Vida turned out to be the epic album that it is; and I keep wondering whether it might make sense to actually try to hold a little bit onto that drive to prove something to people, even though they don't need to anymore.

VLV session were so creative on many aspects, the music and especially the lyrics. We can see the difference between POTP's bridge and Byutiful lyrics in MOTS... Songs like Viva la Vida or Cemeteries of London, or unreleased ones like FOP, tell stories about fictional characters. it's great that they wrote so many songs at that time that we can still hope to listen to finished versions in more recent albums. On the oter hand, from what we heard of MM demos, songs are so simple and repetitive... If I'm not wrong, I remember I read somewhere that the band wants to make music that connects the most of the people around the world, but this is the result😕

So them not listening to people's feedback anymore means they cannot "prove" something to people? You know, if they care too much about what people think, they are not gonna be in the position they are today, right? Your comment is very subjective and caters way too much with how you want Coldplay to be, when in reality, they are very successful because they don't care what people think anymore, and their success rn is already enough of "proof" to people.

I think major minus was just a working title because it's a part of the story doesn't necessarily mean it's similar musically

I think they've had enough commercial success it's time for them to aim for their legacy, the commercial music they make changed their reputation among people, people only know their pop commercial hits and when you show them the early well thought interesting songs they'd be surprised that this was Coldplay. They need to try to "better not bigger" in their word so when they stop making music they would be remembered as the great band that they can be. With every album or EP they release there's at least one song that shows how good they are and they still got it.

In my opinion, it´s too late for that. But at the same time, I´ll always defend their thought of doing whatever they want, as well as my right to dislike it and express it.
