  1. I think G tuning is typically done D-G-D-G-B-d. Otherwise, no, you should be able to get away with that in most cases. I wouldn't leave it like that for a long time though since the different tension may affect your guitar's body.
  2. Damon doesn't look very young to me, but mostly coz his hair's a little grey and because he's got fake/missing teeth.
  3. Paradise. Life goes on. ;) GPASUYF and VH I'd say. Daylight and A Whisper are reasonably heavy too. Oh and Low and Yes.
  4. Amazing live too. Jonny's guitar part is haunting.
  5. ^But maybe LP6 is the end of the 2nd trilogy, so it'll have a short title. :p On the bass - There are indeed good bass lines, and our asking for more isn't saying that there aren't already good bass lines, it's asking for more of what we've heard...but MORE.
  6. I just hope what they do next is balanced. I think MX the album is balanced, but the way it got represented in the singles and live favoured the "happy" songs by a lot. The thing about Politik, to follow that specific example, is that not only is its themery heavy, its musical style is also heavy. Which certain people might argue makes it have less mass appeal compared to a synth heavy track like Paradise which is not only more sing-along-friendly, its more time-relevant stylistically since that's the kind of stuff "we" like to listen to nowadays. That said, I think Coldplay is certainly smart enough to make something that encompasses both sides of this spectrum, both on the album and song level. In fact, that's indeed what they've been doing on the last two albums - even the happiest of the happy songs have pretty dark undertones in terms of where they come from: Hurts Like Heaven is about oppression, Charlie Brown is about a gang (sort of), ETIAW is about oppression too. A stylistic return to some of the dark stuff would be cool though. We had Major Minus and Moving to Mars as being the most reminiscent of AROBTTH; I'd definitely want more of that. Another thing - as posters above said, MORE BASS. I think every member of the band is coming out of their shell [as they said literally about Jonny] with their instrumentation. Which I hope will mean two things - continuance of their musically engaging material (HLH has SO MANY notes in the guitar solo, which is refreshing compared to Coldplay's early material), and less use of backing tracks. I think it's kind of telling that tracks like GPASYUF don't actually have backing tracks - because the band is working full time to make stuff loud without having to use too much extra junk. Same goes for Everything's Not Lost, Yellow, Life is For Living, Amsterdam; DAAHF and DLIBYH [well, there's a couple of backing track things that are subtle on these two].
  7. Earlier versions didn't have the backup vocal mixed very high; therefore, it didn't sound like it was there. People gradually noticed around the time of iTunes Festival where it was actually mixed well.
  8. Ohh I see. No worries. It sounds like your tuner just won't do. Consider buying a chromatic tuner. Or using something like this: http://www.fender.com/community/tuner/#/03-half-step-down There are also musical tricks you can do to get yourself to alternate tunings - for example, a D# is the 4th fret of the B string. And you use similar logic to do it without a tuner. Search youtube for such tutorials...they should be plentiful. If not, I'll make one. :p
  9. Ah not sure if I'm reading right, but my response should still hold, just backwards - ie, a d# is the same thing as having an Eb, and so on. An Eb is "halfway" between a D and an E in sound, and is the same note as a D#, which is likewise halfway between. [historical digression: there was a time when D# =/= Eb but instruments are now tuned to make them the same] Or are you saying that your tuner doesn't show black keys / in between notes at all? In that case, you should consult a piano/online keyboard/friend.
  10. Hmm is Charlie Brown indeed 1/2 step down? I never quite figured out exactly what Chris is playing, as in whether it was standard but 1/2 down or with certain strings just doing different things. To answer your question - in case you don't know, every sharp and flat note has an enharmonic equivalent. If you want to go 1/2 step down, it'll show up on your tuner as Eb - Ab - Db - Gb - Bb - eb (enharmonic notes = D# - G# - C# - F# - A# - d#). For Charlie Brown, you SHOULD be operating in flat notes anyways because the song is in the key of Bb (or G minor) such that the notes in the scale are all white except for B flat and E flat. On the other hand, Yellow and Shiver are in the key of B major, which is a sharp key (5 sharps and the rest white); and the tuning is EABDGbd#, though your flats-only tuner will tell you it's EABDGbeb. Hope that helps. :)
  11. Paralympics is my favourite - it's the only version where they played the intro from the album version, which is a beautiful part of the song. That said, Chris makes a mistake on the guitar right after the 1st chorus, which for a performance of that magnitude, is a little bit of a turnoff. Live 2012 version is great, but there are a couple versions from this year that I like a little better than the one they ended up picking for the DVD - because on the DVD, Chris still plays a little guitar in the 2nd verse, so it's not fully a cappella, and Chris has a cooler falsetto in the Paralympics version as well as the one I'm about to post. But here's a version where they go 100% a cappella in the 2nd verse, and it. For example: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uUDtktSExyQ]HD - Coldplay - Us Against The World (live) @ Olympiastadium Munich 12.09.2012 - YouTube[/ame]
  12. Wow excellent arrangement! Very impressive. Did you use a score-making software or do it by hand?
  13. Flowers in the Window - Travis I still think Coldplay has some good genuine songs. Till Kingdom Come and Swallowed in the Sea are among my favourite love songs.
  14. All three songs were great, although I think the combination of Chris and Jonny, or even Chris and Will is so much better than Chris on his own. Viva was cool, I like the moment when he says "the sound, the sound of drums." UATW was beautiful but lacking in Will. He and Michael Stipe sound good together too.
  15. Joseki, didn't mean to accuse YOU of being a troll, just whoever put them out in the first place and your place as a middleman didn't really help you. Thanks for the PM though. :)
  16. I don't like the single version at all. The only change I would've been okay with is shortening the drums at the beginning. But tinkering with the choruses and shortening the fade out (the fade out being the BEST part of the song IMO) is bad IMO. The way it ends is so abrupt...I mean the ends of songs always get cut off anyways on the radio but I would've preferred the fadeout to still be there. MOREOVER - WHY NOT UATW? :(
  17. Am - 02210 C - 332010 F - 133210 (with the hammering between this and 133000) Chorus Dm - 10,12,12,10,10,x Am - 57755x G - 35543x That's everything you need to know.
  18. Toms don't show up in every song, but I think it's erroneous to say they're not so. These are my favourite tom moments that come to mind: Fix You - he DOES play the toms in the end live. Violet Hill - There's a big tom fill in the 2nd verse. What If - Big fill in the song's climax. Speed of Sound - There's a lot of tom in the verses, and a lot of fills in the choruses Lost! and Strawberry Swing - should be obvious The Scientist and Trouble - There are toms in the (relatively simple) fills That said, Will wasn't formally trained in drums, and as a drummer who also never received formal instruction, I do feel like toms are difficult to integrate compared to snares/cymbals. There are also songs where there distinctly aren't toms, and I feel like that's especially the case for MX - Charlie Brown, Paradise, HLH, DLIBYH, ETIAW, UIF, POC, UATW don't seem to have toms. Major Minus has an important toms part though. Now that I think about it then, maybe it's just that MX the album hasn't got a lot of toms, and that's because some of them are very bass and cymbal driven.
  19. A couple more [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SQ62roFstgg]Small Town Sessions: EstaBoN - Storybook - YouTube[/ame] [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iFj03b3T4Ac]Small Town Sessions: EstaBoN - Rags to Riches - YouTube[/ame]
  20. ^thanks! Here's EstaBon, a rising rapper in Chicago; he recorded 4 songs in our university's recording studio (we have a label called Small Town Records, of which I am an executive member) - I'm in these videos as the keyboardist. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FNS_mrV8djg]Small Town Sessions: EstaBoN - Winner's Circle - YouTube[/ame] This is him freestyling to a beat we came up with on the moment. :D [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VTio33TX8RM]Small Town Sessions: EstaBoN - Freestyle - YouTube[/ame]
  21. They played What If and Christmas Lights, which weren't exclusive to that show, but at least they were oddities for that leg of the tour. The order of the songs was also unique.
  22. I think the tuning is EADGBc F = 133210 D = 10,12,12,11,10,0 Bb = 68876x
  23. Most of what Jonny plays is on one string, sliding upward, by the way.
