  1. I don't think DAAHF is as disjointed as UWTB. Both are great songs, but at this point I like DAAHF just a little bit better because it's more epic at the end - the crescendo into the climax is more "logical." So it's good of the band not to repeat their often re-used piano to loud setup (see: Amsterdam, Fix You, DAAHF, the Scientist, Christmas Lights, MTM). I'm conflicted...I love the lyrics and sounds in UWTB though. :)
  2. Bwajajaja thanks guys. :D :D :D Will actually quotes the original!
  3. That was the funniest moment of my life, and I am now waiting for a video of that to be posted.
  4. UATW, UIF, DLBIYH, and UWTB all had me close. :)
  5. I know I do. It'd be okay if I had just one or two.....but I have to say, I ALWAYS prefer live versions and it gave me unrealistic expectations over the studio versions. I love MX as a whole, but there are so many things from live shows that I was hoping to hear...the only one I wasn't "disappointed" by was MX/HLH and the new tracks that we hadn't heard. There are a lot of specific things, actually: -Charlie Brown - bass/loudness/passion in the "light a fire" section live is not on album -UATW - not enough Will on the studio version (tradeoff for the neat intro though :)) -Major Minus: not enough Jonny -POC: I just expected something else based on Rock Im Park. That said, there were still nice surprises. The tracks we hadn't heard were brilliant. And listening to Paradise and MTM on album before live makes me appreciate that track a lot more somehow.
  6. Oh your attic antics.
  7. This! But with less falsetto I guess. It has elements of the aforementioned though... Politik: loud drums/piano intro X&Y: fast, spacey energy ETIAW: "happy" guitar riff Glass of Water: The chorus's chord progression is the same as DLIBYH's verses CSC: fast! LIJ: fast! The end kind of reminds me of White Shadows or Talk's synthesizer interludes.
  8. This would be so funny. :) I feel like UATW and DLIBYH would be good Olympics songs. :D
  9. Whaa? HLH, CB, and UATW have excellent lyrics.
  10. Does anyone hear accordion in the verses?
  11. Urrrrrrrrgh this is SO spot on. The reason is that there's no bass in the "chorus" in the studio version, which makes it sound incredibly tame at the song's climax. On the hand, they do the "all the boys" section very loud and well. And I love the string fluorish in the end. :)
  12. Live, definitely. The studio is good, the only real problem I have with it is that there's no bass in the Light a Fire chorus, which is so loud and passionate live. Saddening. :(
  13. Mainstream: ETIAW, Paradise, POC...maybe Charlie Brown, but as an earlier poster said, "SOS or LIJ caliber"...it'll probably fade from public spotlight the way IMP or GPASUYF have even though those are great massive songs too. Coldplay fans: UATW, HLH...I think opinions will be divided on DLIBYH but in the long run people will like it. UWTB and UFO are similar to Prospekt's March but I'm not sure how people will feel about those...but I feel both will be liked universally.
  14. You win this thread. It also slightly reminds me of a happier sounding version of Noel Gallagher's What a Life. Or Things I Don't Understand.
  15. People LOVE Don't Panic and it's only 2:17!
  16. Is it me or did the announcer mispronounce Mylo Xyloto?
  17. Exactly. There isn't a single song that starts with "Don't" that isn't a masterpiece - Don't Look Back in Anger, Don't Stop Believing, Don't Stop Me Now...:wink3:
  18. Well I agree that Viva is brilliant, but I was facetiously referring to the singalongs in those hits "oohohohoh", "yeahhhh", and "paraparparparpar." Charlie Brown doesn't have a chant. It barely has a chorus. Besides its catchy guitar line, it doesn't have the marks of a radio/crowd-pleaser hit.
  19. I think the song has enough atmosphere without the other stuff. Jonny's guitar and Guy's bass alone do a lot. And I feel that even the slightest bit of organ or synthesizer poses a danger to the very intimate and stripped down nature of the song. That said, I'm sure it will still sound good, especially since I'm not asking for a new Parachutes or anything.
  20. I don't hate organ, but I agree completely. UATW is perfect as is and does NOT need organ. Although I guess.... ....this is piano in the live version, but it could probably be replaced with organ on the album. I can see that happening I guess. :\
  21. Life continues with weight = mg!
  22. Okay after listening with headphones, I'm getting really worried about these vocals. I kind of like them, but in the Letterman performance, the backups are actually LOUDER than Chris in some parts. I like the idea of them, but frankly there are two many backup vocals - the end of every verse stanza by my reckoning and then the choruses. Basically, a lot. Which means like Major Minus, people will hate it. A lot. For a long time. Until they realize they're actually kind of cool. I hate vocal-playback live though. :(
  23. Oh puberty... Some of ETIAW might actually sound good as a yearbook quote too, such as the "rebel song" line or the first verse. The All the boys, all the girls section of Charlie Brown would be epic too. :D
  24. Who put "just a roof" in the title though? :(
