  1. See You Soon only because we haven't seen Chris play a near-solo acoustic song in a while. So it's kind of superficial but I think most people associate good memories with SYS, and moreso with UATW. :) Nah I get the same vibe - Jonny playing synth, a heavy drumbeat. The beat actually reminds me of Violet Hill a lot, but yeah now that I think about it I'd argue POC is LP5's Lost. Which is a good thing. :D
  2. Agreed on Charlie Brown...it's a good riff but they just play it one too many times. It could also do with more "choruses." :wink3: I suspect the thing about bass though is that it has a lot to do with how the recording medium handles the sound (blah, cell phones....can't wait for Glastonbury). It's an epic bassline but then bass is naturally harder to hear, and the sound mixers need to make the guitar/singing audible too. :\
  3. Good post, but how do you reckon Major Minus is In My Place? And, Us Against the World = See You Soon + Till Kingdom Come smashed into one. :D
  4. You are in your mid-30s and you like BTTF huh? YOU'RE CHRIS AREN'T YOU.
  5. In a telescope lens, when all you want is friends... <(^__^<) OP - I love it! It's got little elements of the roses, cartoon hearts, and Charlie Brown (because of the yellow). And "rainbow chewie" would also be a really cool cover; AROBTTH is also what I thought of. As a poster said earlier, the rainbow circles would make a great backdrop.
  6. Just a little something for fun. I LOVE all the new songs (yes, ETIAW too) but I do kind of imagine each song is subject to change as the tour goes on / they get played in future dates. I mean, look at songs like GPASUYF. :D So let's discuss what you would change about the songs - instrumentation/how they play it live, lyrics, structure, anything. ETIAW - I think Chris should be playing acoustic guitar on this song live instead of fist-pumping. Seriously. And the lyrics should suck less. :laugh3: Actually, the only line that bothers me is "cathedrals in my heart"...both grammatically and thematically I don't really understand it, and I don't really envision any particularly beautiful image to go with it either. :\ Major Minus - Nearly perfect as is, but perhaps it could do with er...more lyrics. I've never been a fan of such repetitive lyrics (Don't Panic and Sparks come to mind, as well as Wonderwall and a number of Oasis songs). Hurts Like Heaven/Charlie Brown - These two songs are pretty much perfect for me, except I think they would both sound a lot better with Chris on the piano. If you watch Chris on Hurts Like Heaven, he's barely playing guitar anyways, but the last 30 seconds of HLH is very beautiful (as well as MX). The acoustic guitar in Charlie Brown doesn't do much for me either, which is why I'd argue it'd be better as a piano song too. Okay I have a bit of a piano obsession, but just look at how good Glass of Water is! Us Against the World - I think realistically speaking, UATW is the only song that is subject to a lot of huge changes; I feel like they could do a lot of things with this song - turning it into a full band song, a piano ballad, a solo song for Chris. Personally, I wish all the other members would somehow join sooner considering Jonny and Guy really only spend around 45 seconds onstage in this song and then walk off before you even know it.
  7. Most of these sucked but I lol'ed at "Your Love is a Raw Quinoa Salad" because it actually sounds like a Coldplay title (Your Love is Everything) and because it makes fun of Chris's vegetarianism. :laugh3: Seriously though, the other ones were pretty immature and unfunny. A good opportunity for lulz wasted, I say.
  8. Teardrops, waterfalls. That kind of thing you know.
  9. Oh man does anyone here Sleeping Sun in the background?! :D
  10. I urge you to listen to it twice. It doesn't have the catchy energy of Charlie Brown/HLH but the beauty of this song is really striking when you really pay attention. :)
  11. I wouldn't mind them performing naked. :wink3:
  12. I'm definitely still a huge fangirl (esp after hearing the new songs)...but I do want to say this: The combination of these two posts is just....:lol: ....and then I feel guilty. :embarrassed: Speaking of the costumes, does anyone else feel like the Christmas Lights "era" clothing would've been just bloody snazzy..... :( Edit: one more thing - the instruments look really fooking badass. :)
  13. *bump* Okay, we've heard 5-6 new songs. Do you think this album has any coherent concept/story yet? I feel like UATW points towards a two-people-against-the-world sort of narrative. But your thoughts? Does any of this still hold true based on what we've heard *so far*?
  14. UATW - definitely my favourite new song. It's just so amazingly beautiful, it calls back See You Soon and Till Kingdom Come (if only because of Will on the keyboard). I'm curious to see what they might do with it in terms of instrumentation because this song could definitely be very cool if it was just a tad louder, esp in the piano department. But as is it's perfect.
  15. This song is absolutely amazing. The best use of acoustic guitar too besides UATW obviously. And Jonny absolutely rocks this song. In every possible way. AHHH. I love Jonny so much. The lyrics remind me a little of Billie Jean (well I've been listening to the Coldplay cover too much) but with all the "be careful's" in there. :D I got the exact same impression! I think one of the chord progressions is superficially similar to Low's intro/chorus.
  16. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0cajqQ38Ols&feature=autoplay&list=ULrKAQIGkrq1g&index=19&playnext=1]Violet Hill[/ame] There's a hilarious little nod to Liam at 2:18.
  17. This is beyond the Edge comparisons. Jonny kicks ass so far in all the new songs; it's wonderful! :D Oh, and I'm really hoping to hear some piano on this album. That little bit of piano in Hurts Like Heaven is sustaining me for the few months till more stuff comes out. :O
  18. BRILLIANT FIRST POST MY FRIEND. :D
  19. This looks great Zergio, thanks. What's your email address? I think I ought to email you my tab template so that your tabs don't stretch out too far horizontally. It's much easier to work with.
  20. Oh Zergio no worries...I know the thread has my name on it but I wouldn't have minded of you posted. Anyways, I incorporated your changes to Yellow as they're all sound. To make sure; for the verse bits that Jonny plays - the main change you made is having the B string open right? And, do you mind checking out the new chorus riff I came up with (it's in the 1st post): I added yours, but I also created a version that is yours and mine combined. Tell me how it sounds would you? Thanks. Been pretty busy the last week or so, so sorry to make you or anyone else wait Jin. >_<
  21. If you listen to this live version, it's very easy to tell it's in standard. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-xRkwQ61s1A]YouTube - coldplay-green eyes-live-[HD]-live@ Sydney 2009[/ame] But the album version is best played as Papps and Zergio put it - EADGBd.
  22. Either way is correct. Do you have a specific video that shows this? There's the possibility that Chris's middle finger "rests" above that fret just because there's nowhere to put it; and it's more consistent with the way Chris usually lets the B and e strings ring open. Again, correct but do you have proof you can point me to? It's hard to do it by sound since the upper note is so much clearer. The change you suggest sounds very good but I don't hear Jonny playing it that way. :embarrassed:
  23. Ah same with my school. Actually, there are a lot of people at my school who are really into dancing......I really took the wrong route. :p Good luck! :) .....:o YOU'RE GOING TO SEE BEADY EYE? :o
