First review of Coldplay album by Gordon Smart AN album by some band I had never heard of landed on my desk yesterday. I nearly lobbed it in the drawer of unheard music next to SCOUTING FOR GIRLS’ last release. But the innocuous sleeve with an obscure codename was in fact holding the biggest album of the year — possibly the decade. I can bring you the first full review of the new COLDPLAY CD, out on June 12. And I think epic is the word. The full title — Viva La Vida or Death And All His Friends — should have been a clue. The band have really pushed the boundaries of what we expect from an album, producing a beautiful, serious and sometimes testing 45-minu…

I'm asking this question cause I've heard many people saying that X&Y is the best one but I think that A Rush Of Blood To The Head is 10x better . I'd like to hear your opinions ;)

  6. It occurred to me that the process of evaluating a new song or record should be similar to tasting wine. After all, if connoisseurs of wine go the extra length to maximize their enjoyment of it, why shouldn't music lovers do the same? And just like wine, Coldplay's new album contains many different "tastes" or elements of music: Brian Eno, Coldplay (obviously), African strings, and Spanish influences. Maybe we'll spot more as we hear it. Anyway, here are my recommendations for what to do on a first listen: 1. Relax, no stress: Make sure you've got all your petty chores and homework out of the way. 2. Make it an experience, not an experiment: Don't sit i…

  7. I've been listening to a lot of lives and rare Coldplay songs lately, and I've really been nostalgic about some of them. Some even depress me so my question is, what live, rare, bsides, or regular everyday songs make you nostalgic or depressed? I.E. How You See the World, High Speed (live), AROBTTH, Don't Panic (blue room), Only Superstition, Gravity, Warning Sign, We Never Change

  9. Okay, check this out: On Coldplay's official Youtube page, look what it says in their profile: "Coldplay's official YouTube profile Coldplay have been a band since January 16th 1998, when we lost a demotape competition on XFM in London. Our type of music is very heavy soft rock. We are about to release our fourth album: Viva La Vida or Death And All His Friends" Does anyone else find "Viva La Vida" and "Death And All His Friends" being on two seperate lines just a little suspicious? ;)

  11. Anyone seen this source LP4 review which got 2 stars? Can't find it anywhere... did someone get the Observer MM? So, Coldplay are getting round to touring their Ricky Martin inspired third LP, Viva La Vida. Whilst this has been getting a kicking in most places, it got a 2/5 in the Observer Music Monthly for example, they are still a huge live draw. Arenas it is then! The tour runs: Birmingham NIA: December 1-2 Glasgow SECC: December [...] http://elbo.ws/post/1079040/

  15. He's a successful pop star now but Coldplay's Chris Martin hasn't always had things his own way. Fourteen years ago the then unknown found himself second best... in the Yamaha Rock and Pop awards. He was beaten to the gong by Rosabella Gregory, a graduate of the Royal College of Music. Rosabella said: "We didn't know each other well but you could tell Chris was really miffed at not winning." She is set to release her debut album this summer - and will compete against Chris's upcoming fourth. Maybe revenge is a dish best served Coldplay? http://www.mirror.co.uk/showbiz/3am/2008/05/23/coldplay-s-chris-martin-to-face-his-rival-again-89520-20426257/ :dozey:…

  17. On my way back from work today I tuned in for a moment on 93.1 WXRT and all of the sudden I hear Frank E. Lee interviewing Chris & Jonny. I was like, "are they here in Chicago?" But, I think they were calling probably from England. I don't know if anyone posted this yet, but they have it on the website. I checked since I missed the first part. http://www.93xrt.com/wxrt-chicago-live-from-studio-x/1534266 Scroll down and look for the Coldplay interviews.

  19. So yesterday i was looking at a tennis magazine and they happened to have a thing about Nicole Vadisova's 5 favorite songs. So i looked at it and suddenly i saw this. Number 3: Coldplay, "Warning Sign" "I like them a lot. I think they're a little different than most artists around. They're more chill, more fun. I've always been a fan". (Smash Magazine) So i thought that was pretty cool. any of you randomly see any coldplay references anywhere recently?

  22. The New Coldplay Album, Track by Track The album won't be out until June 17, but information is beginning to surface. I had a chance to listen to the full album on Friday. I was escorted into a screening room at a private club in downtown Toronto. Before I could set foot inside, I had to surrender by cell phone and a burly security guarded wanded me with a metal detector. It was like a Condition Red day at the airport. Here's what I can report about Viva la Vida. --Despite what you may have heard, the album IS called "Viva La Vida and Death to All His Friends." Chances are, though, we'll just go with "Viva La Vida" (which, roughly translated, means "long live lif…

I can't do my chores, everytime I open the Internet I come to this site and go to the torrents sites to see if the album has leaked!!! The wait has been very very long and I even dream that I'm listening LP4. I really hope the album leaks on the next few hours, 'cause I can't wait to June 11th!!! Too far away!!! Who's feeling the same? Sorry for bothering you, but I know if there's a group of people that will understand my actual feelings, that group of people are you.. cheers!!!

What do you lads think of this revolutionary imagery ? The album cover, their new outfit (they look like mexican guerrilleros), political comments in their lyrics ("when the future's architectured..."), the recurrent theme of "resisting the authority" (cf the new interviews). Isnt it a bit ridiculous ? Is it legitimate ? Let's face it, Coldplay is one the biggest selling bands of the planet, they are part of the system, they belong to the establishment. Their songs are used in Itunes commercials, the OC, Grey's anatomy and so on. Is this their definition of rebellion ? They said they would never allow their music to be used in a commercial, well... Musically, they dont ex…
