  1. Started by Knotty,

I'd just like to air a viewpoint and see if anybody shares it. Coldplay are not U2 and should never aspire to become them, partly because they have already surpassed them. They have more subtlety than U2. The only terms in which Coldplay should desire any comparisons to U2 are in those of prolonged success, but I don't think there's any doubt that will happen. Does anybody else agree with me? I sometimes think U2 is a case of the emperor's new clothes, and all it takes is somebody to take something. I really don't rate them very much at all, and I find people saying Coldplay are playing up to their image actually insulting.

  2. Coldplay to get hot in the city Coldplay have added an extra date to the Birmingham leg of their UK tour after phenomenal demand for the first two dates. The band, who have sold over 30 million albums and had a string of hit singles including Yellow, Don’t Panic and Clocks, will now play at the NIA on Wednesday, December 3, as well as December 1 and 2 as previously announced. Celebrating their 11th year together, the group will release its fourth album, ‘Viva La Vida or Death And All His Friends’, on June 12. Singer Chris Martin says: “This album was fuelled by a desire to move from black and white into colour. Or, if you like, we decided to let our garden grow a li…

  4. CHRIS MARTIN has come out – as a fan of Oirish balladeers WESTLIFE. I am stunned. I always had COLDPLAY down as a band who soaked up inspiration from stadium-slaying rock legends like U2 and OASIS. It’s hard to believe that mid-Nineties boyband dross such as 5IVE, 911 and Da Loif even figure on their radar. In a startling turn of events frontman Chris admitted: “I dreamt about RADIOHEAD last night and Westlife the night before. Which is the perfect blend of what we’re trying to do musically.” Expect standing up from his stool when the key changes on the next tour. Huge I can just imagine SIMON COWELL salivating at the prospect of supervising …

So I was listening to "Bucket For A Crown" and I notice that Chris says "I don't want to be the captain of a sinking ship" And couldn't help but think about how similar that is to "I don't want to be a soldier, of a captain on some sinking ship.." Anybody else notice how they incorporate their lyrics from other rare songs? Like in "Talk" they refer to a ladder to the sun, when we all know that that's another CP song floating around. Just a friendly observation :)

COLDPLAY commander CHRIS MARTIN pounded the cobbles of north London in full military regalia while filming his band’s latest video. The quartet shot a promo for forthcoming album Viva La Vida in and around their Chalk Farm HQ. French revolutionary politics and dress feature heavily in the million-selling rockers’ new direction. The album’s a bona-fide cracker. Roll on their Brixton Academy show on June 16. http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/showbiz/bizarre/article1218935.ece

  15. Rules: Vote for your LEAST favourite song Top 2 songs from each album will go to the final. Songs Still In: Don't Panic Shiver Spies Sparks Yellow Trouble Parachutes We Never Change Everything's Not Lost Life Is For Living Eliminated: High Speed EDIT: I forgot "Life is For Living" in the poll because I'm a pinhead and read the tracklist from the back of the vinyl sleeve to be sure not to miss any. :dozey: If you really feel the need to vote "Life is For Living" (though I can't imagine there are many...), just post it in this thread and I'll count up the votes later.

Being as fair as possible, how big do you guys think this new album is going to be? I personally think it's going to the the album of the year, if not ever from Coldplay. There is a lot of talk on here about the songs and such but I'm just curious what you other Coldplayers think about where this is all going to go by the end of summer.

  18. I just got an email from Coldplay.com confirming the European/UK tour dates. If you scroll down to the bottom of the email, it says" "Oh, and by the way, our tour will feature magic balls. We'll tell you more about those on the website soon." Haha any thoughts as to what that means??

  20. Started by Fixed,

Chris and Jonny were just on MTV News talking about the Jay-Z/Glastonbury debate. Jonny said: "I cant understand what all the fuss is about" (laughing) While Chris said: "It's like Mozart playing somewhere in Camden (didn't catch the name) - you wouldn't complain, you'd go and see him cos he's brilliant! It's a case of unfamiliarity - people that don't like him (Jay-Z) are probably c***s" (laughing) I probably got that quite wrong, but that's sort of basically what they said :P Perhaps that was part of a longer interview they recorded that will surface soon, so keep your eyes and ears peeled! Also, anyone that is able to rip that and upload it, please do…

12 June 2008 is a big day for poor, struggling EMIMusic. It's the day that the fourth Coldplay album, Viva La Vida is released. Three years ago, when their last album X&Y was delayed, EMI's share price famously took a dive. There was a happy ending though; the boys from Coldplay beat off Mariah and 50 Cent and became the biggest seller of the year. That sort of corporate pressure is enough to drive you weird and silly. Chris Martin is trying not to think about it. "We thought, 'We can't possibly get any bigger, let's just get better.'" he told NME. So there it is. They'll sell bucketloads of records at a time when nobody is selling records. They're ju…

Don't ask me where I heard or got these songs, but I did. Here are my first impressions of the following songs from the new album, VIVA LA VIDA, OR DEATH AND ALL HIS FRIENDS. 'Life in Technicolor' The opening track on the album, it is a 2-minute plus instrumental. Bearing the influence of it's co-producer Brian Eno with it's spacey ambience, it quickly develops into a jangly, percussion-driven jam that recalls the opening of U2's 'Where the Streets Have No Name'. It's a statement of intent, and promises an adventurous but upbeat collection of songs. The final song on the album, 'Death and All His Friends' is the same instrumental but extended and with lyrics and will…
