More Evidence That Intelligence Is Largely Inherited: Researchers Find That Genes Determine Brain’s Processing Speed ScienceDaily (Mar. 18, 2009) — They say a picture tells a thousand stories, but can it also tell how smart you are? Actually, say UCLA researchers, it can. In a study published recently in the Journal of Neuroscience, UCLA neurology professor Paul Thompson and colleagues used a new type of brain-imaging scanner to show that intelligence is strongly influenced by the quality of the brain’s axons, or wiring that sends signals throughout the brain. The faster the signaling, the faster the brain processes information. And since the integrity of the brain’…

Charles Freeman’s disloyalty allegations by Kevin MacDonald Charles Freeman’s withdrawal from his appointment as head of the National Intelligence Council has attracted a great deal of comment. But the most amazing parts of his statement are the least commented on. To wit: I do not believe the National Intelligence Council could function effectively while its chair was under constant attack by unscrupulous people with a passionate attachment to the views of a political faction in a foreign country. This is a rather unvarnished statement of disloyalty. Indeed, Freeman’s comment bears more than a passing resemblance to Pat Buchanan’s famous comments on the neoconse…

 Are you gonna watch? Should be a good show. White Stripes are gonna be on. I don't want him to leave NYC. Conan is just not a LA kind of guy. He'll be in LA when Coldplay come through California, so maybe they will be on his new show.

McALESTER, Okla. — A 23-year-old inmate beaten to death at the Oklahoma State Penitentiary had been put in a cell with convicted killer he had testified against. Prison spokesman Jerry Massie says Paul Duran Jr. fought with one cellmate and then was put in a cell with Jessie James Dalton. Duran was found beaten to death about 15 minutes later. Massie says the two were not supposed to be put in the same cell and prison officials are trying to determine how it happened. Duran and Dalton were co-defendants in the January 2002 shooting death of Billy Wayne Ray in Oklahoma City. Duran pleaded guilty to a robbery charge and testified against Dalton who was convi…

Screaming as they ran for their lives, hundreds of hotties in heels toppled over barricades along W. 55th St. after several people in the crowd started yelling, "There's a bomb!" By the time the model madness ended, two women were hospitalized and two others and one man were busted for inciting a…

Now I don't know how many of the people in here know about this guy, or this show. It's a new show on Comedy Central. It's on at Wednesdays @ 10:30PM EST. Demetri is probably my favourite comedian at the moment, and the show is fucking excellent. I had seen quite a few of his stand-up shows before and when I found out he had his own show coming up, I was so fucking psyched. And I wasn't disappointed. This guy is as smart as he is funny. The show is a combination of Stand-up and sketch comedy, which at first I thought wouldn't work very well, but he does it brilliantly. He's known for his extremely weird wit and unusual cleverness: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v…

Tenants of the new Electric Works block in Sheffield are offering their staff a shortcut from the top of the four-storey building to the ground floor: a helter-skelter. The 85ft (26m) slide cuts the journey to seven seconds. Toby Hyam, managing director of Creative Space Management, which runs the building, said: “Electric Works will be the first office building in the UK to have a permanent helter-skelter for the use of those who work there. It will also be available for business visitors and for conference visitors, but it will not be open to the general public. “Companies and the people working here feel that the helter-skelter reflects their approach to work, …

Fifteen people have been killed by a teenage gunman who went on a rampage in south-west Germany, officials say. Among the dead were nine pupils, eight of them girls, and three teachers at the Albertville secondary school in the town of Winnenden, north of Stuttgart. The gunman, a 17-year-old former pupil, entered the school at about 0930 (0830 GMT) dressed in black combat gear and began shooting - aiming head-high. He fled in a stolen car, but killed himself after being cornered by police. German Chancellor Angela Merkel described the shootings as "incomprehensible". "It is unimaginable that in just seconds, pupils and teachers were killed - it is an a…

They are the unknown soldiers laid to rest in anonymous graves after dying in the bloody battlefields and trenches of the Great War. But the identities of tens of thousands of First World War soldiers buried in tombs marked ‘Unknown Soldier’ or ‘Known Only Unto God’ could finally be revealed after the discovery of a vast forgotten archive. The data looks sure to provide great comfort to those thousands of British families who know they have a relative who died in the 'war to end wars', but have never been able to pinpoint the final resting place of their remains. British historian Peter Barton unearthed the staggering archive, virtually untouched since 1918, in…

Remembering The Alamo By Chuck Baldwin Today, however, our national leaders are in the process of turning America over to the very forces that the Alamo defenders gave their lives resisting. On second thought, do they look foolish, or do we? March 6 marks the anniversary of the fall of the Alamo back in 1836. For more than 13 days, 186 brave and determined patriots withstood Santa Anna’s seasoned army of over 4,000 troops. To a man, the defenders of that mission fort knew they would never leave those ramparts alive. They had several opportunities to leave and live. Yet, they chose to fight and die. How foolish they must look to this generation of spoiled Americans. …

The FBI have revealed they have a million people on their 'watch and stop' list for terror suspects. People on the list are stopped from flying into America or subjected to intense questioning at border crossings before being allowed entry into the country. The list has been compiled by the FBI's terrorist screening centre in Washington. It was started after the 9/11 terror attacks and has been subject to much criticism after children with the same names as terror suspects found themselves marked down as potential threats to security. About 95 per cent on those on the list are non-US citizens, but the FBI have not revealed how many are from the UK. But with th…

Obama Administration Protests South China Sea Incident With China (Updated Again) A little incident has occurred in the South China Sea between the US Navy and the PLA Navy. I bet the AP writer had fun writing this article, because we have a protest by the Obama administration and Chinese sailors in underwear. The Pentagon says Chinese ships shadowed and maneuvered dangerously close to a U.S. Navy vessel in what appeared to be an effort to harass the American crew. The Obama administration is protesting to the Chinese government. The protest will be delivered to Beijing's military attache on Monday. The Defense Department said in a statement that a…

Police are investigating why a gunman killed 10 people in a series of shootings in the southern US state of Alabama before killing himself. The gunman burned down his own house, before firing on homes, shops and vehicles in the towns of Samson and Geneva near the Florida border. Several of the victims are believed to have been members of the gunman's extended family. The wife and daughter of a local police officer were also killed. The gunman was named by local officials as Michael McLendon, 28, who had recently left his job at a local sausage factory. The bloodshed began when McLendon shot his mother in the house where the two of them lived in Kinst…

Thousands of people have attended a series of rallies across NI to show their anger at the murders of two soldiers and a policeman. Silent protests took place in Belfast, Lisburn, Newry, Downpatrick and Londonderry. A peace vigil is also to be held in Craigavon, County Armagh, near the site where Constable Stephen Paul Carroll was shot dead on Monday. Two people are still being questioned over the murder of the 48-year-old. Prime Minister Gordon Brown has sent words of support to MPs who held a vigil outside Westminster in support of the peace rallies held in Northern Ireland. Speaking in Belfast, Eugene McGlone of the Unite union, which helped organise the…

Picture of 100ft-long 'snake' sparks fears of mythical monster in Borneo By Richard Shears Last updated at 1:40 PM on 20th February 2009 Comments (7) Add to My Stories According to legend, the Nabau was a terrifying snake more than 100ft in length and with a dragon's head and seven nostrils. But now local villagers living along the Baleh river in Borneo believe the mythical creature has returned after this photo of a gigantic snake swimming along the remote waterways has emerged. The picture, taken by a member of a disaster team monitoring flood regions by helicopter, has sparked a huge debate about whether the photos are genuine or mere…

From Meccania to Atlantis - Part 9: Goodbye To All That Territory is identity. Body Snatchers who pump into any territory under their domain an unceasing stream of racially and culturally unrelated immigrants, rob the autochthon inhabitants of a part of their identity. It’s one of the gravest forms of aggression possible. When in the Course of human events The title of Chapter 9 is borrowed from Robert Graves. Graves (1895 -1985) was one of those people one could find only in Europe: an Anglo-Irish-German, he was an intellectual son and grandson of intellectuals, a poet, classicist and translator from Greek and Latin, Oxford University professor, novelist and aut…
