Snakes escape on Qantas flight An Australian airliner was grounded after four baby pythons escaped from their container in the aircraft's hold. The snakes, just six inches long, were among 12 Stimson's pythons being flown from Alice Springs to Melbourne. At first it was thought the reptiles may have been eaten by the other snakes, but this was discounted after they were weighed on landing. Passengers were transferred to other aircraft. The jet was fumigated but the snakes' bodies are yet to be found. "They're not endangered so a decision was made to fumigate...if these snakes turn up they will be very much dead snakes," David Epstein of Qantas said. It is …

Oh. Snap. Actor Jamie Foxx had some choice words for Miley Cyrus on his weekend Sirius radio show The Foxxhole. When the on-air conversation veered toward the 16-year-old pop star, Foxx, 41, asked: "Who is Miley Cyrus?" As someone explained Cyrus is the star of the popular Hannah Montana franchise, Foxx quipped, "The one with all the gums? She's got to get a gum transplant!" That's not the only piece of advice the Oscar winner handed down to the Disney powerhouse. Foxx also suggested that Cyrus "make a sex tape and grow up. Get like Britney Spears and do some heroin. Do like Lindsay Lohan… and get some crack in your pipe … That's what I want." A rep for …

Coronation Street actor Mikey North suffered a broken jaw and required emergency surgery after being attacked during the Easter break. According to The Mirror, the 22-year-old - who plays Weatherfield's cocky Gary Windass - was assaulted by two attackers as he returned home from a club with his girlfriend and a group of friends in his hometown of Scarborough, North Yorkshire. Reports suggest that the two thugs provoked North about his Corrie role, before leaving him in a heap on the pavement, covered in blood. Following the attack, North attended A&E at the local hospital for treatment. A Coronation Street spokesman said: "There was an incident at the w…

  9. L'AQUILA, Italy – A powerful earthquake in mountainous central Italy knocked down whole blocks of buildings early Monday as residents slept, killing at least 50 people and trapping many more, officials said. Tens of thousands were homeless. The earthquake's epicenter was about 70 miles (110 kilometers) northeast of Rome near the medieval city of L'Aquila. It struck at 3:32 a.m. local time (0132 GMT, EDT Sunday) in a quake-prone region that has had at least nine smaller jolts since the beginning of April. The U.S. Geological Survey said Monday's quake was magnitude 6.3, but Italy's National Institute of Geophysics put it at 5.8. Interior Minister Roberto Maroni, …

This Wednesday is the 20th anniversary of Britain's worst ever sporting disaster. On April the 15th, 1989 on a sunny, warm day in Sheffield, 96 football fans lost there lives in a catastophic crowd crush at the Hillsborough stadium. The match was Liverpool v Nottingham Forest in an FA Cup semi final. All the losses were from the Liverpool side. Later an investigation revealed a complete lack of duty on the police's behalf, despite the disgusting claims made by a certain British tabloid. 20 years on though, it still conjures up emotions and feeling within everybody in football. Events like that reveal football to be just a hobby. Rivalries don't ever get in the way of such…

  13. Hey everyone. I have a few friends who were recently laid off from a pharmaceutical company due to an acquisition. They join the millions of Americans who are out of work during these tough times. So I felt compelled to initiate this kind of discussion. Unfortunately, I'm not educated a whole lot regarding the US economic system. All the economy-related threads on this forum just leave me with a question mark. I do know that Wall Street had a big meltdown last year with the financial collapse of a bunch of banks. And these banks fell because people couldn't pay their mortgages. As a result of these banks failing, companies can't get the funds to support their businesse…

North Korea has defied international warnings and gone ahead with a controversial rocket launch. The rocket blasted off from the Musudan-ri launch site in the north-east of the country at 0230 GMT. North Korea said it was sending a satellite into orbit, but its neighbours suspect the launch was a cover for a long-range missile test. They strongly condemned the launch. The US president told Pyongyang to "refrain from further provocative actions". North Korea had "ignored its international obligations, rejected unequivocal calls for restraint, and further isolated itself from the community of nations", Barack Obama said in a written statement. http://news.bb…

  24. Budget experts predict no Social Security cost-of-living increases for 3 years The recession is projected to wipe out annual cost-of-living increases for 50 million Social Security beneficiaries for the next three years, something that hasn't happened since automatic adjustments were adopted in 1975. The Congressional Budget Office says in its latest budget estimates that inflation will dip so low that Social Security recipients will not qualify for annual increases in 2010, or for two years after that. In 2013 through 2019 -- when projections are less reliable -- CBO estimates annual increases of 2 percent each year, which would be among the lowest. David Certne…
