Than this might be for you: A Google engineer has developed a way to avoid random emailing late at night when you're most likely to be drunk. Jon Perlow's new Mail Goggles application, built into Google's GMail service, forces the user to answer basic maths questions in 60 seconds before a message can be sent on its way. Mail Goggles gets you to answer maths questions before you send an email If you are in a fit state to be chatting to your ex, for example, then the puzzles should not be too challenging. The feature is time sensitive and by default only kicks in late at night on the weekend, although those settings can be changed by the user. In his Googl…

  7. Predictions 400,000 families could lose their homes as unemployment skyrockets By Olinka Koster Last updated at 11:56 PM on 20th February 2009 Comments (56) Add to My Stories Up to 400,000 families could lose their homes as the recession drives unemployment to unprecedented rates, a leading economist has warned. Repossessions could exceed the heights reached during the property crash of the early 1990s amid a ‘huge spike’ in defaults, according to respected economics consultancy Fathom. The crisis will be triggered by a surge in unemployment to four million, or 13 per cent of the workforce, according to Danny Gabay, a former Bank of Englan…

  8. The banking system of Europe is at the edge of the abyss. A brief story by The Telegraph revealed this last week. The original was almost immediately deleted. A new version was substituted. You can see the original headline on Google: European banks may need £16.3 trillion bail-out, EC document warns ... There are dozens of these links. I read the story last week. I saved the link. But, lo and behold, when I clicked my saved link on Monday morning, the story did not mention a specific figure. There was a reason for this. The editors at The Telegraph had taken out the following paragraphs: European Commission officials have estimated that impaired as…

  10. They think it fell over: FA Cup needs repairs after excited children topple it off table By Graham Smith Last updated at 1:04 PM on 20th February 2009 Comments (10) Add to My Stories It's the most sought after trophy in British sport, but today the FA Cup is in need of repairs. The legendary cup was dented after it crashed to the floor at Fratton Park, the ground of current holders Portsmouth FC. It was balanced on a table on a stage when a group of excited children jumped onto the platform and caused it to topple off. The trophy suffered significant damage to the rim which is thought to prevent the lid fitting properly. Former Portsm…

As the world slips into recession, it is also on the brink of a synthetic CDO cataclysm that could actually save the global banking system. It is a truly great irony that the world’s banks could end up being saved not by governments, but by the synthetic CDO time bomb that they set ticking with their own questionable practices during the credit boom. Alternatively, the triggering of default on the trillions of dollars worth of synthetic CDOs that were sold before 2007 could be a disaster that tips the world from recession into depression. Nobody knows, but it won’t be a small event. A synthetic CDO is a collateralised debt obligation that is based on credit defau…

Hi, I'd be really grateful if someone could help me please. I just tried to burn some video clips on to a DVD-R but was unsuccessful. I've never done this before as up until recently, I was on a dial up connection and video clips didn't really work on that very well. I think that the problem may have been with the speed of the discs (the ones I have are DVD-R 16x speed). An error message popped up saying that I should try a slower speed. Please could someone tell me which discs I should buy? My pc is a Compaq Presario Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005. I didn't realise that some discs wouldn't work on this computer! :embarassed: The clips are not copy …

Ok so I'm doing art this year at school and our first unit is Pop Art coupled with lino printing. The criteria is to create a "Reduction Lino Print" featuring one popular, well known celebrity and one mass-produced, well known item. So naturally I decided to pick Chris martin for my celebrity. The artwork also has to contain text of the celebrity saying something. The colours that the print is to include are limited to white, yellow, red, blue and black. The reason I'm telling you all this is that I though some people around here would be able to help. Firstly I need a decent quality picture of chris martin with of his head or from shoulders up. If anyone has any good …

Speed warning stickers for wheelie bins have been handed out in a Cumbrian town to encourage drivers to slow down. The move follows complaints by people living in Castlegate Drive and Windmill Lane in Cockermouth that their roads were being used like "racetracks". In response, the police and fire service have given residents 30mph stickers for each side of their bins. On collection days, motorists using the roads will have to pass rows of the signs reminding them of the limit. Pc Sue Wheelhouse, of Cockermouth Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: "This initiative is in response to excessive speeding concerns by local residents, who are worried that it is onl…

HEALESVILLE, Australia – Towering flames razed entire towns in southeastern Australia and burned fleeing residents in their cars as the death toll from the country's worst fire disaster in a quarter-century reached 65 on Sunday. At least 640 homes were destroyed in Saturday's inferno when searing temperatures and wind blasts produced a firestorm that swept across a swath of the country's Victoria state, where all the deaths occurred. "Hell in all its fury has visited the good people of Victoria in the last 24 hours," Prime Minister Kevin Rudd told reporters as he toured the fire zone on Sunday. "It's an appalling…

If you know who Charlie Brooker is, I don't really have to say much more than "he wrote it" and you should be looking for ways to watch this show It sounds really shit if you describe it, but it's absolutely amazing, best thing I have ever seen on E4 It surrounds Big Brother, but there is a huge twist, Zombies are taking over the UK. The housemates are totally oblivious to this fact and they go about their pathetic Big Brother lives as the world turns to shit around them, that is until one of the production crew gets into the house covered in blood wielding a pair of scissors. Seriously, watch it. http://rapidshare.com/files/158190519/dead.set.s01e01.ws.pdtv…
