  1. The more Starbucks a country has, the worse its economic crisis. Where lies the link between coffee and greed? Daniel Gross Remember the once-fashionable McDonald’s theory of international relations? The thinking was that if two countries had evolved into mass-consumer societies, with the middle classes able to afford Big Macs, they’d generally be able to find a peaceful way of adjudicating disputes. In other words, they’d sit down over a Happy Meal to resolve their issues rather than use mortars. The recent unpleasantries between Israel and Lebanon, which both have McDonald’s franchises, put paid to that reasoning. Still, the Golden Arches theory of realpolitik …

talk about bullshit hype. i cant believe america is about to elect a socialist as president. his policies are going to be a disaster on the economy and fighting terrorism. From boortz.com A note to voters. For a slim chance that Obama can be defeated: 1.Don't even think you're going to change the minds of black Americans on this one. They're going to vote for Obama .. and that is that. So, what else is new? Black America has been in the tank for Democrats for quite some time now. 2.A lot of voters are going to have to get a lot more familiar with Barack Obama. There going to have to realize that he is a man with limited experience – very limited – who has …

Honey bees have the ability to count to four, according to new research in Australia. Scientists in Queensland tested the intelligence of the insects by observing their reactions in a tunnel which had nectar placed in just one of five different markers. "We find that if you train them to the third stripe, they will look subsequently in the third stripe," one researcher, Mandyam Srinivasan, explained. "If you train them to the fourth stripe, they will look the fourth stripe and so on. But their ability to count seems to go only up to four. They can't count beyond four. "The more we look at these creatures that have a brain the size of a sesame seed, the more aston…

Zoo officials in India are searching for a mate for the country's only silverback gorilla. 36-year-old Polo is still single eight years after the death of his 46-year-old partner Sumathi. Vijay Ranjan Singh, director of the Mysore zoo the animal inhabits, remarked that Polo is "not very happy". "The few [hobbies] he enjoys are bathing and searching for food that his keeper hides in blocks of ice or in bamboo to keep him energised," he said. "We have written to all major zoos in the world. We have tried everything." Singh added that it is difficult to establish a trade with other zoos for a partner, as many are reluctant to part with an endangered species. …

    1. In 1883 Joseph Mortimer Granville, a British doctor, patented the first electromechanical vibrator. It was sold as a cure for “hysteria”, a condition with familiar symptoms, such as rapid heart rate, sexual fantasies, pelvic heaviness, vaginal lubrication, impulse purchasing, etc. 2. When portable “massagers” began starring in Thirties porn films, vibrators were branded immoral. They didn't reappear until the Sixties, long after the announcement by the American Medical Association in 1952 that “hysteria” was not a clinical diagnosis but a female orgasm. 3. In 1998 the Rabbit vibrator made an appearance on Sex and The City and subsequently became, and still is, …

She said: "He whines a couple of times and then when the music starts he begins howling. When he's finished he just goes back to whatever he was doing. "He just started doing it himself. It began with a bit of a whine but now when it comes on it's a full-blown howl. "We've no idea why but he's been doing it for as long as we've had him, which is almost two years." The birds were detained in Natanz, near Iran's uranium enrichment facility, a location at the centre of tension between Tehran and Western powers. It is not yet known if they have been freed or are still incarcerated. According to the AFP, both pigeons had "metal rings" and "invisible strings" on their bodies. Iran has a history of suspecting animals of espionage. In July last year, 14 squirrels were detained on the country's border for spying. Military pigeons were deployed by Britain during the Second World War to carry messages. 32 birds were awarded the Dickin Medal, the highest possible honour…
