The Munich Oktoberfest, the world's biggest beer festival, normally reverberates to the sound of cheery drinking songs, slapping of thighs and the oom-pah-pah of the tuba. This year there are also howls of protest that Bavaria's heritage is under attack from cheap lederhosen made in China. For the purist, a true Bavarian wears only lederhosen made from the hide of a Bavarian deer and stitched and embroidered by a Bavarian tailor, preferably in an Alpine village with cow bells tinkling nearby. However, Otto Dufter, the chairman of the Bavarian Federation of Folk Costume Societies, says that this year, costumes worn by many at the festival are “yuppie outfits” that …

Help Save Bletchley Park, the birthplace of modern computing. The heritage site is home to the UK’s code-breaking efforts that helped shorten the Second World War, saving countless lives. It is also the birthplace of the modern computer. Despite its past, Bletchley Park's future is uncertain. It receives no Government funding and relies on visitor income and donations, and now important historic buildings are in serious disrepair. The war exhibits and National Museum of Computing, which houses the rebuilt Colossus computer that broke high-level German communications during WWII, are run on a shoe-string budget. For Bletchely Park, the scene of many of Britian’…

Pictured: Rare upside-down rainbow spotted in the UK By Rebecca Camber Last updated at 3:20 PM on 17th September 2008 Comments (36) Add to My Stories It appeared in the sky for the briefest of moments. A dazzling arc of psychedelic colour reminiscent of the Cheshire Cat's grin in Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland. But this is no fantasy or trick of the light, it is known as a circumzenithal arc. Seen here shimmering in the sky over Cambridge in the afternoon sunshine, it is often mistaken for a rainbow hanging upside down. Rare: An astronomer caught this unusual upside-down rainbow on camera near her home in Cambridge But unlike a rain…

http://boortz.com/nuze/200809/09102008.html#operatives Not that some of you will care, but you do remember how Our Savior won his first election to the Illinois State Senate, don't you? He sent his campaign workers to the voter registrar's office and kept them there until they had managed to disqualify everyone running against him. Now the word is that Obama has sent dozens – who knows how many operatives – to Alaska to work 24/7 on digging up some dirt on Sarah Palin. Let me tell you what Obama would say if McCain sent someone to Chicago to dig up dirt on him. He would whine and cry about a "return to the old politics." Funny how that standard doesn't apply to …
