The National Debt Clock in New York City has run out of digits to record the growing figure. As a short-term fix, the digital dollar sign on the billboard-style clock near Times Square has been switched to a figure -- the "1" in $10 trillion. ------------------------------------- wow O.o

A New York City resident crashed his car into a map shop after getting lost this week. Rodney Bailey was driving his Ford Expedition SUV out of a parking garage when he took a wrong turn and smashed into the window of a Hagstrom Map store. Two women were hospitalised with minor injuries after being clipped by the vehicle, but police ruled that the incident was an accident and allowed Bailey to drive away one hour later. Meanwhile, shop owners decided to stay open for business as usual as they dealt with the debris resulting from the crash. The incident took place on the city's West 43rd Street. http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/odd/a131864/lost-man-crashes-car-in…

  5. Emma Cianchi's parents thought she might ask for a horse for her birthday. Instead, she said that she would quite like some piglets. They were meant to be pets. But a year later, now aged 15, Emma is Britain's youngest pig farmer. Every morning before school she spends an hour mucking out and feeding her growing herd of rare-breed pigs and does the same after she returns. Life is getting harder for small farmers but that has not deterred her. After starting with two Berkshire piglets for her 14th birthday, she is now breeding pigs in a field at the back of the family home at Preston-on-Wye, near Hereford. She has 20 rare-breed pigs but sentimentality is restricted t…

Police in Cincinatti have charged an 89-year-old woman with petty theft after she refused to return a football to neighbourhood children. Edna Jester was arrested on Thursday for keeping the ball, which had been thrown into her yard - something which had become an issue in the area. After the father of one of the children reported her, officers arrived at the scene and asked her to return the ball. When she refused, she was charged with petty theft. Jester has since been released from custody and has said she eventually intends hand the ball back. "[Keeping the ball] is my only way of getting through to these children ... I'll give it back to them later, but n…

"Diversity" Is Costing Us Dearly! "Diversity" is arguably the most popular "feel-good" word in American popular culture. It conjures up images of a society where everyone is welcome and nobody dominates. Of course, those seeking to promote diversity never express a need to admit more whites or even Hispanics to "historically black colleges," nor to increase black or Indian homeownership in New York's Chinatown. "Diversity," far from meaning "let's all get together," really means, "let's displace whites." And racially unconscious whites don't care about—in fact, they even "celebrate"—their own decline. But according to a new study undertaken by Dr. Edwin S. Rubins…

How about them Rays? Worst to first in one year. Last year finishing with 66 wins and 96 losses (worst in baseball), this year winning the division over the Yankees AND defending champion Red Sox, with an amazing record of 97-65. They are on their way to their first ever World Series. What an unbelievable, unlikely, and overall inspiring story!

Heavyweight boxer Vitali Klitschko has claimed that he uses his son's wet nappies to help heal his hands. The Ukrainian revealed the secret recovery technique in an interview with German newspaper Bild earlier this week. Klitschko said: "Baby wee is good because it's pure, doesn't contain toxins and doesn't smell. "I wrap nappies filled with my three-year-old son Max's wee around my fists. The nappies hold the liquid and the swelling stays down.'" The WBC heavyweight champion said he was taught the method by his grandma.

  12. An “expressionless” seven-year-old boy broke into a zoo, bludgeoned to death giant lizards and fed them – and other live animals - to a crocodile named Terry in Outback Australia this week. Zookeepers were horrified when they arrived at work on Wednesday morning to see Terry, an 11-foot long saltwater crocodile, feasting on his fellow showcase reptilians at the Alice Springs Reptile Centre in the Northern Territory. At first they thought the animals, including the zoo’s favourite, metre-long, 20-year-old goanna, had escaped from their outdoor pens and accidentally become breakfast for Terry - the local zoo’s prize attraction. But further investigation uncovere…

American doctors have revealed that the Bee Gees tune 'Stayin' Alive' could ensure heart attack victims do just that. Researchers discovered that the song contains 103 beats per minute, just over the recommended 100 chest compressions per minute recommended should someone go into cardiac arrest. If performed properly, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) could triple cardiac survival rates, reports the BBC. Doctors and students averaged 113 beats per minute when they were asked to think of the song and perform CPR on mannequins as part of the study. Though this is more compressions than recommended by the American Heart Association, one of the main researchers sai…

Workers face £180-a-year tax for driving to work under plans to charge businesses for parking spaces By Daily Mail Reporter Last updated at 1:46 PM on 30th September 2008 Comments (6) Add to My Stories Workers could be hit with a £180 a year 'pay-as-you-park' tax for the privilege of driving to work under controversial plans designed to reduce congestion. Leonardo DiCaprio is my favorite actor (can't wait to see Body of Lies this Friday) and Kate Winslet is extremely talented as well. Plus, the director (Sam Mendes, American Beauty, Road to Perdition) is top-notch and it's based on a brilliant novel. I don't understand how this COULDN'T be a masterpiece. Anyone else interested?

  17. WASHINGTON - Fear and loathing is spreading as signs mount that the economy is in danger of losing its balance. ADVERTISEMENT And a fresh batch of economic reports due out Thursday is likely to show more problems for the already stumbling economy. Industrial production is expected to have dropped in September, underscoring the plight of troubled auto makers as well as manufacturers of furniture, construction materials and other goods that have been hard hit by the collapse of the housing market. The number of new people signing up for unemployment benefits last week may dip slightly but is still expected to top 400,000, a level that usually points to an ailing l…

A 12-year-old mare named Peggy has been barred from her local pub. The horse, who has a taste for John Smith's bitter and pickled onion crisps, has been banned from O'Malley's in Jarrow, South Tyneside because landlady Jackie Gray doesn't want her ruining the new carpet. "Although she is probably cleaner than some of my customers, I had to put my foot down and show her the door," said Gray. Peter Dolan, the horse's owner, added: "People come into the pub and the first thing they say is 'Where's Peggy?' I tell them she's kicked the habit and is teetotal now. "No-one even took any notice of her. Everyone just saw her as one of the locals."

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081009/ap_en_mu/odd_symphonic_justice Thu Oct 9, 10:18 AM ET URBANA, Ohio - A defendant had a hard time facing the music. Andrew Vactor was facing a $150 fine for playing rap music too loudly on his car stereo in July. But a judge offered to reduce that to $35 if Vactor spent 20 hours listening to classical music by the likes of Bach, Beethoven and Chopin. Vactor, 24, lasted only about 15 minutes, a probation officer said. It wasn't the music, Vactor said, he just needed to be at practice with the rest of the Urbana University basketball team. "I didn't have the time to deal with that," he said. "I just decided to pay the fin…

A Chorley man has been handed a £350 fine for watching TV shows including Hollyoaks too loudly. Peter Nobile, who is in his 60s, reportedly "made his neighbour's life hell" for over a year by continuing to watch television and listen to his radio at high volumes. According to the Leyland Guardian, Nobile's next-door neighbour Mrs Sweeney quickly complained to Environmental Health officials, who issued Nobile with an abatement notice in February. However, the decision was later taken to prosecute when he continued to breach his notice. Leyland Magistrates' Court heard two sound recordings made through Sweeney's walls, which were said to be sound bites from an epi…
