Where in the stadium are they?

the map

I'm in section 415

(podium means stage)

Man, it was bad enough checking my mailbox and finding a Rolling Stone cover with Bono wearing eye make-up. Imagine the dismay when I learned that I am going to repeat the experience upon receiving my new issue of Spin Magazine. Sorry Bono, I love you to death, but it just looks stupid.

what makes us run from U2

I just hope BEP don't open in Boston. That would be horrible!

But the Black Eyed Peas are better than the Kaiser Chiefs ;)

Either one of those and I'll pull my ears out.

i was wondering what some peoples...erm...impressions were at this point of hearing the album.

im assuming most of you have heard it through at least 30 or so times.

i guess i just wanted to know where it stood in your mind and against their catalog.

for me its a 3/5 stars. there's a lot to like and some things to really dislike. its disjointed often...and it never really lets you in the sound.

i may like a handful of the songs, but the album as a whole is quite average for u2.

^So thats why Bono keeps yelling "Let me in the sound" during Big Boots :P

I like the album. U2 is a funny band for me (and they are my favorite band BTW). I like pretty much everything they have ever done. Every song they do kind of has its own groove to it, and I rarely skip songs on a U2 album.

That's not to say every song is great - some are just above average. But I find myself enjoying those songs while I wait for the songs that are outstanding. On NLOTH, the high moments, for me, are No Line On The Horizon and Breathe. Magnificent, Get On Your Boots (after multiple listens), I'll Go Crazy If I Don't Go Crazy Tonight, and White As Snow are all above average, and the other songs are fine fillers and may eventually move up on my list.

U2 really excels when they play live, though. So I will reserve my final judgement until I hear a complete concert, but I think it is a fine effort as it currently stands.

The emo/gothic look does NOT work for U2

Yeah, it is something best attempted in a band's teens, 20s, or early 30s. It doesn't look too good when the first attempt is made at a time when you're pushing 50.

And it seems like it's only Bono that is confused. Edge, Adam, and Larry are probably wondering WTF.

At least he will probably be wearing his flash shades. That should help shield this monstrosity.

i'm sure all of you have already seen this and talked about it. i've been hearing stories about it for the last week or so but it was sooo far beyond anything i expected. going to see U2 this time around will be a mind blowing experience. not only is it the stage but the shear size of the tour that has been announced so far. i think the smallest venue holds 50 000!!

I just watched the DVD of them performing live in Chicago during the Vertigo Tour!!! ohhhh wow. they should just dress like that because it was very cool.

I really liked both the Elevation and Vertigo DVDs. I think Hamish Hamilton does a great job of making a DVD seem like a concert live experience.

I hope he does the DVD for the U2 360 tour, however, I am not sure that the stadium environment will translate to DVD as well as the last two tours, which, at least in North America, were in arenas.

I agree with you.

Although Slane Castle was very well done. Much better than the Vertigo Milan DVD I thought. Wonder how awkward it will be to film the 360 stage where it is so open.

p.s. as soon as I get my Boston tickets, I'm going to go into U2 isolation until September. When I saw Coldplay I had no idea what the stage would be set up like, setlist, special things they do during the sets, etc. I love that element of surprise.

i hope they'll do a new dvd soon!!!

I'm really hoping to see them live this time around. I've been a fan since 1997, and I missed them on the Pop Mart, Elevation, and Vertigo tours. It looks like they're not going to be hitting here until 2010, though, so I'll have to be a patient fan.

Yeah, Bono wearing eyeliner = bad. Just poor taste.

I thought this was interesting - U2's formative years, and the music scene in Ireland:[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eUjS5s4eU0k]YouTube - The Irish Rock of the 70's & 80's - A clip from "Out of Ireland"[/ame]
