I thought they'd nearly finished the new album and it was due out this year :( I preferred Ordinary Love to Invisible originally, thought Invisible was a bit shit but I heard it on the radio the other day and actually liked it :laugh3: I don't think I've listened to OL since the first time.

I like NLOTH, probably prefer it to ATYCLB and Pop.

I only noticed because your posts over there are always so supportive of Coldplay unlike a lot of other posters I've seen on U2 boards who only seem to have a Coldplay section to talk $%!# about them. Actually @U2 isn't that bad as far as that goes. Interference on the other hand... oh boy!

yea gotta love my favorite bands!. @U2 is great for the most part, especially during tours. Now it's just a lot of negativity for almost everything

but no where near as bad as Interference. I had an account for about a month and settled on @U2 cause it was much friendlier. Much like this place

Yep. I do too. U2's album better be good, lol, it would be funny and sad if the new album was terrible. (Just sad actually) I think it'll be fine, I'm waiting for the day they'll announced it....

And OL and invisible were nice reminders that u2 were still out there, but they have just disappeared since the oscars. I think OL is amazing and Invisible is..okay I guess, not bad. Good enough to be on my iPod.

I think the Ordinary Love Paul Epworth mix is fantastic, better than the original mix by Dangermouse. Invisible? It's a good song, nothing less or nothing more. The video is terrible though...absolutely terrible!

I'm worried about this band though. The obsession with getting OL an Oscar (which they didn't get) and the release of Invisible on a Super Bowl half time advert was not exactly 'subtle' and seemed to paint a picture of a band that has lost touch of it's musical responsibility at the expense of outside projects and general celebdom. 20 years ago U2 were known for being U2 the band, these days it seems they are merely U2 the brand. Will they ever reclaim the artistic and intense brilliance akin to the era of Achtung Baby and even Pop (which is very underrated)? I somehow doubt it. These days they sound like and look like a band content with their legacy.

If, like everyone seems intent on doing, we compare them to Coldplay then the last few months alone has shown two very different bands in conduct and sound. Two bands who have widespread appeal across commercial and critical lines.

Where Coldplay have subtly gone about their business, drip releasing their new album with relatively little bravado, you look at U2 and see an overblown mess, promoting two songs to ridiculously stratospheric levels. Two songs that don't deserve that level of attention. Yet the success of Magic and Midnight alone completely trumps that of the grand presentations of Ordinary Love and Invisible (which last time I looked had only 4 million views on youtube). If rumours are to be believed that U2 have abandoned any attempt to release the album this late summer then it's obvious that they are in a severe state of flux. However they've only got themselves to blame. They've been in this situation since 2009 and the release of their last album.

No Line On The Horizon was underwhelming to say the least and the decision to take it on tour with the grand but incompatible 360 stage further underlined that album's weakness. While 360 will go down as the highest grossing tour of all time and a grand spectacle for all to remember, it certainly won't go down as one of U2's finest live achievements. When they stopped promoting that album on stage, just one year after it's release, we were delivered a band trying to relive it's past glories. Remember the extended Achtung Baby intro of 4-5 songs? The return of the Zoo TV spaceman? They'd become a relic. That's not the U2 I want to see or hear. I always wanted U2 to push the boat out musically. They are still, after all, the beholders of the greatest reinvention in modern rock music with what they created in Achtung Baby and Zoo TV. Even if they didn't entirely pull it off second time with Pop we could still admire it in it's ambition and ultimate value as part of the U2 canon.

If they can no longer go about their business in a musically ambitious and creative manner, completely vacant from their pursuits outside of music, then I don't really believe I want U2 to hang around much longer.

that's a pretty damn good post

Sorry, I realised I was in full blown essay writing mode for a moment! It's hard not to though with a band as big and as brilliant as U2 have been.

Awesome post, howyousawtheworld.

I think we all should agree that they must take a break from 'extra-curricular' activities and focusing on music and their chemistry, even if we get a new NLOTH, it'll be part of their growth.

It was right on the mark.

I'm kinda getting tired of seeing Bono and the boys off on vacation when they could be in the studio *sigh*

Couldn't find a u2 thread on here! Is anyone going to the U2 songs of innocence + experience shows in the 3arena in Dublin? The tickets sold out immediately today, glad I got two standing tickets. Tickets are going for up to 1500 euro on ebay.

Good for you, I hope you have fun! :happy2: If only I had the money and no school to worry about, I'd make the pilgrimage to Dublin! Given the underlying themes of the tour, U2 in Dublin will be even more special this time. I live in Denver (which is special to them for other reasons) but I dream of one day seeing them play a sort of homecoming gig in Ireland. ;)

I wonder how they've decided to cram the stage into 3arena? I understand that it needs to be reworked a bit to fit the venue...

Saw some amazing clips and photos on Facebook. Would love to see them. Maybe when they do stadium shows. Not got the time atm :P

Read some great things about this show and it's been getting some top top reviews. Thematically, it seems to be their strongest tour since Popmart and the setup looks astonishing. Clearly they were never going to be bigger on stage than 360 so to scale back but achieve an arguably greater degree of innovation is an incredible success from a band that continues to reinvent themselves over and over again whether on stage or (less so these days) in the studio.

Like yourself, praying they do some sort of European stadium tour so I can hopefully bag myself a ticket or two! Tried for the current run of shows they're doing right now in the UK but was impossible even at 9am on the morning of their release.

They really are getting some of the best reviews they've ever gotten on this tour. My first U2 show was on the 360º Tour in 2011 (which was absolutely incredible, the best concert I've ever been to), and I'm dying to see this show. Hopefully they keep it going in 2016.

I'm thrilled that they intend on releasing another album pretty much 2 years after Songs of Innocence, because the wait between albums was getting longer and longer with each release. But I wish they would release the album in the spring to then continue touring, but this band just loves delaying everything.
