Yeah, I followed a path similar to yours. I am a big fan of VLV and MX (the "midplay" era, ahah) and when I discovered that Coldplay mentioned several times AF as an influence during that period, I st

Looks like they've been cutting Empty Room out of shows? That was one of my favs. live.

They sound checked Empty Room ... I was actually looking forward to hearing it live, but I won't complain too much. :P

I'm uploading my pics right now, I have some pretty amazing shots.

We didn't meet the band though, we stood outside the venue for 2 1/2 hours and waited, saw them playing table tennis and then waved at them when their busses left ... yay?! :wreck: I think I have a cold now, but at least I had an amazing time in front row.

Pics to follow.

I want to go back.

Woho guys. I am waiting for my train right now. The others are still at the venue to meet the band ha and I guess they'll be lucky enough to do so. We could see the band playing table tennis inside. Far away through a window. So I am sure they will get out there soon. Stefan caught win's tambourine at the end of the show and since I never got anything at a concert I begged him to give me a strap of it. Just to take something from a concert once and to show off with it Hahaha:wacky:

Oh there was a concert btw. It was super amazing I esp. Enjoyed the old songs from funeral. Rebellion lies, tunnels and wake up were my favourites. It blew me away! I was having a headache because of my neck but I forgot about that during the concert even though it was aching for a while but I didn't care because the music made me happy. My back will thank me for it tomorrow Haha. Oh my now I am stuck at the station because the train I was supposed to take didn't come now I need to find another solution if there is one Haha. I took some pics might post them later (and more about the concert). Imke took the best pics though:)

Awww happy to read the awesome music made you forget about your pain :nice:.

Really nice pics btw ! I wish I could have mine :disappointed:.

Thank you, Briggs! It was really great to see them so close and not have anyone in front of you ... somehow made the whole experience even more intense.

Great pics! :awesome:

I think the crowd was pretty amazing ... I remember how they went on and on and on singing Rebellion's melody after the band had left the stage.

The crowd also did that with a few more songs and I had the impression it even surprised the band.

Arcade Fire, O2 Arena, review

On the cusp of seizing the title of the greatest live band in the world, Arcade Fire's powerful sonic waves just swept their audience away. Rating: * * * * *

I suppose they are used to this kind of thing in their home city of Montreal, but Arcade Fire seemed right at home in the freezing weather conditions. “It’s the first time we’ve been in England when its snowing and it suits me just fine,” admitted frontman Win Butler.

Belying their moody aesthetic, they opened in a blaze of bright lights and colour, all seven band member (plus one supporting player) blasting through Ready To Start at full tilt, hammering, scratching, pounding and sawing at their instruments.

Butler’s wife, Regine Chassagne, was spinning in a glittering gold party dress that wouldn’t have shamed Lady Gaga, light bouncing and refracting off her, although it seems unlikely the pop superstar would have tried to entertain a packed arena armed with an accordion.

Arcade Fire have an everything and the kitchen sink approach to their wall of sound. Violins, pianos, techno synths, acoustic guitars, distorting electrics are smashed together like a force of nature, rising and falling in powerful sonic waves that just sweep their audience away. In the clubs, theatres and churches that provided the stages for their rapid rise as left field indie heroes, this force had a kind of bohemian grandeur, an epic eclecticism that enabled them to create a sense of drawing listeners into their world.

But they are no underground darlings any more, and as they step up to sold out arenas their sound is finding its true home.

This is music that thrives in scale, in the shared experience of thousands singing along, arms aloft. At its heart are tender, even fragile songs of unease in the world, and the kind of big, empathetic humanity of their superstar admirers Bono and Springsteen, but given a fresher, younger, edgier context.

This is a band determined to do things its own way, re-imagining what rock music can be in these strange times. With the 17,000 strong crowd as their choir, Arcade Fire conjured up apocalyptic mayhem and euphoric escape. “Let’s all pretend like we’re in a ----ing rock show,” Butler joked before an explosive and overwhelming finale.

But the audience had no need to pretend. A lot of bands struggle to make the leap from theatre to arena, but right now Arcade Fire are seizing the title of the greatest live band in the world, and everybody who sees them knows it.
