He's got good hands, but is Chad Ochocinco just as skillful with his feet? The Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver will find out next week when he joins Major League Soccer club Sporting Kansas City for a four-day trial, the team announced on its website Wednesday. With the future of the 2011 NFL season in limbo, Ochocinco accepted an invitation from Sporting head coach Peter Vermes to try out for the team. "Due to the NFL lockout, I'm excited to be able to follow my childhood dream of playing for a Major League Soccer team," Ochocinco said. "Thanks to Sporting Kansas City for giving me this opportunity." Although Kansas City already has handed in its official roster for the recently begun MLS season, Vermes insists that Ochocinco still can make the squad if he impresses during his tryout, which begins on Tuesday. "We're always searching for players who can help our team and bringing in new talent," Vermes said. "We know that Chad is an exceptional athlete and that he loves the sport of soccer, and he did play a lot when he was younger." A fabulous player but being too young to remember him I'll always be thrilled by his role as manager of West Brom in that unforgettable Sunday afternoon in May 2005 when West Brom somehow escaped relegation when only one of them, Southampton, Norwich and Crystal Palace would escape relegation. It was a fantastic day for the neutral football fan and I thank Robson and his gritty team for the entertainment. Get well soon Robbo!

The 31-year-old France international was operated on by Dr Josep Fuster Obregon at the BarnaClinic Grup Hospital Clinic in the Catalan city. Barcelona said the tumour was removed in a three-hour operation on Thursday without any complications. "Depending on his progress, the player could be allowed to leave hospital within a week," read a club statement. "By the express desire of the player, the club ask for the maximum respect for his right to privacy and confidentiality." Abidal joined Barcelona from Lyon in 2007 and has been a regular this season. Pep Guardiola's side lead Spain's La Liga and are through to the Champions League quarter-finals. Capped 52 times by France, Abidal made his international debut in 2004 and has played for his country at two World Cups as well as the 2008 European Championship. Cesc Fabregas and Cristiano Ronaldo are some of the fellow players who have sent their best wishes to Abidal since news of the tumour emerged on Tuesday.
