LOVE CITY !!

They did really well especially Milner and Johnson who were sublime (particularly made our full backs look incrediby poor - albeit Agger isn't a fullback and was coming back from concussion). As for Glen Johnson - well it's time to drop that guy. He is simply a poor defender. Time for Martin Kelly to step in place of him.

Wilshere made his England debut in last month's friendly against Hungary

Arsenal player Jack Wilshere arrested after 'fracas'

Arsenal and England midfielder Jack Wilshere was arrested in the early hours in connection with a "fracas".

A spokesman for the player said the footballer was held after the incident at 0245 BST in Kensington High Street, London, and later released on bail. Three other men were also arrested. Emergency crews were called after a man suffered minor facial injuries and a woman sustained a broken arm. Wilshere, 18, made his England debut in last month's friendly against Hungary.

But this week he was named in the England under-21 squad rather than remaining in contention for the senior side's Euro 2012 qualifiers against Bulgaria and Switzerland. A Metropolitan Police spokesman said the four men - two aged 18 and two aged 21 - were taken to a west London police station and later bailed to return in mid-October pending further inquiries.

A spokesman for the player insisted the 18-year-old had been playing the "role of peacemaker" in the incident. The spokesman said: "Jack Wilshere was arrested by police in the early hours following a fracas but was released on bail later. "The police have made it very clear that he is an important witness to the incident and played the role of peacemaker and is unlikely to face any charges as a result. Jack has made it very clear he will co-operate fully with the police investigation."

Stevenage-born Wilshere came on as a substitute for Arsenal in the 84th minute on Saturday in his team's 2-1 win over Blackburn. He has played in all three of Arsenal's Premier League matches so far this season, after spending much of last season on loan at Bolton, and is rated as one of the best young English prospects in the game. A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: "Police were called at approximately 2.45am on Sunday 29 August following reports of an assault on Kensington High Street.

"Officers and London Ambulance Service attended and discovered a man and a woman suffering injuries. The woman had suffered a broken and dislocated elbow; the man was treated for a minor facial injury. Both went to a west London hospital for treatment."

Carlos Tevez produced an early candidate for miss of the season in the first half

Sunderland 1 - 0 Man City

Darren Bent struck an injury-time penalty to give Sunderland a dramatic win over Manchester City, who were left to rue an amazing Carlos Tevez miss.

Bent hit a low spot-kick past Joe Hart four minutes into added time after he was held back by Micah Richards.

But the match will also be remembered for a terrible miss from Tevez, who spooned an open goal over from 12 yards after being set up by Yaya Toure.

City's Emmanuel Adebayor later saw a volley well saved by Simon Mignolet.

Bent's last-gasp strike capped a fast and furious contest played out in a swirling wind with few other chances - aside from the golden one for Tevez that is likely to haunt the Argentine for years to come.

Southampton sack Alan Pardew two days after 4-0 win against Bristol Rovers

article-1307325-0AF83D43000005DC-696_233x445.jpg Sacked: manager Pardew

The farce at Southampton took another turn on Monday when manager Alan Pardew was sacked, less than 48 hours after he masterminded the team's 4-0 win at Bristol Rovers.

The former Reading, West Ham and Charlton boss was relieved of his duties in a terse 10-minute meeting at St Mary's on Sunday night, despite leading Southampton to last season's Johnstone's Paint Trophy - the club's first domestic silverware since the 1976 FA Cup.

First-team coach Wally Downes and goalkeeping coach Stuart Murdoch have also left the League One club.

Pardew, 49, was forced to defend his position in May after public criticism from chairman Nicola Cortese, but appeared to have weathered the storm.

Even on Saturday evening Pardew was talking about potential transfer targets to add to the arrivals of Ryan Dickson, Frazer Richardson and Danny Butterfield this summer.

Pre-season promotion favourites Southampton had started typically slowly, recording four points from their opening three games but Pardew fully expected them to be front runners after his remarkable turnaround last season. Saints narrowly missed out on the playoffs, despite a 10-point deduction at the start of the season.

Pardew, who had two years left on his contract, rebuilt the team and, to many, this is the latest miscalculation by Cortese, a former banker in his first job in football.

A national tabloid newspaper refuses to mention the club or their players by name after they banned all photographers from home games this season, forcing publications to buy pictures from one official source. The Sports Journalists' Association have recommended newspapers do not use the photographs and the Society of Editors labelled Southampton's decision 'absolutely crackers'.

The Plymouth Herald opted to use cartoons rather than buy the official pictures when Plymouth visited St Mary's on the first day of the season on August 7.

A source close to Cortese said Pardew had been sacked owing to 'serious problems' with morale at the club's training ground. This is disputed by sources close to Pardew, a forward-thinking manager with all the top coaching qualifications.

article-1307325-0AF8DC06000005DC-636_468x286.jpg Happier times: Pardew pictured with former Southampton owner Marcus Liebherr, who passed away earlier this month

There were also supposed differences between the former manager and the club regarding the implementation of the Football Development and Support Centre, a facility designed to help integrate young players into the first team.

Pardew is believed to have resisted what was considered 'interference' from areas of the club without football expertise. But the suggestion that the death of owner Markus Liebherr, who passed away aged 62 three weeks ago, may have prompted Pardew's dismissal is wide of the mark.

Pardew was unavailable for comment yesterday, but a bizarre statement on Southampton's website implied they doubted Pardew was able to take them back into the Championship, despite his impressive record of 54 per cent of wins.

'We recognise that frequent changes to the football management are unlikely to assist in the winning of trophies and promotion. However, we are taking these steps to achieve our aims, which we share with all supporters, to get promoted this season.'

Dean Wilkins has been made caretaker manager. Saints have no plans to rush into appointing a successor, but they claimed they had already received 12 applications from managers working in the Football League and, surprisingly, the Premier League.

Van der Vaart to Spurs what a buy that would be.

Asamoah Gyan joins Sunderland for record £13m fee

Sunderland have broken their transfer record to sign striker Asamoah Gyan from Rennes for a fee "in excess of £13m" according to the English club.

The 24-year-old forward, who scored three times for Ghana at the World Cup, has signed a four-year deal. The Ghanaian could make his debut against Wigan on 11 September. Gyan's arrival comes on the day it was announced that striker Fraizer Campbell will be out for at least six months after rupturing cruciate ligaments.

Meanwhile, fellow striker Martyn Waghorn has left the Stadium of Light for Championship side Leicester. Sunderland boss Steve Bruce was delighted to have completed the Asamoah deal.

Robinho seals AC Milan switch from Manchester City

Manchester City striker Robinho has moved to AC Milan after signing a four-year deal at the Serie A club. The Brazil international had a medical with the San Siro side on Tuesday but a fee has yet to be announced. A statement on the AC Milan official website read: "AC Milan announces it has acquired Robinho on a permanent deal from Manchester City."

The 26-year-old joined Manchester City for a British record fee of £32.5m from Real Madrid in the summer of 2008.

The former Santos player arrived at Eastlands in dramatic fashion on the final day of the transfer window, on the first day of owner Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed al Nahyan's reign at the club. However, the playmaker struggled to make an impact at the Eastlands outfit and was loaned to Brazilian side Santos in January 2010.

Robinho, who rejected a move to Turkish club Fenerbahce earlier this summer, will join fellow countrymen Ronaldinho and Alexandre Pato at the Serie A club.

Why do clubs still decide to use Undisclosed, cos they have to disclose the value paid on their accounts when submitted to Companies house

Why do clubs still decide to use Undisclosed, cos they have to disclose the value paid on their accounts when submitted to Companies house

This clearly is one area of which needs to more transparent.

I also belive the terms of the payment should also be pubically disclosed

I.E. One lump some or over a period of time... this is not also disclosed when transfeers are done all the time.

BTW The owners of Manchester City can get around the rule of UEFA spending ristrictions by putting money in the bank, so they can have it as cash that is already there, before the rules come in place.

City have announced their list of 25 players for selection in the Barclays Premier League.

Mario Balotelli heads an extensive list of players aged under 21 who are also available for selection and due to their age did not have to take a place in the 25-man squad (below). Other players with first team experience aged under 21 are Dedryck Boyata, Greg Cunningham, Abdi Ibrahim and Alex Tchuimeni-Nimely.

A dozen of the 25 are classed as home-grown under Premier League rules, having spent at least three seasons with a club affiliated to the FA prior to their 21st birthdays, irrespective of their nationalities. The minimum number of home-grown players to achieve a 25-man squad had to be eight.

Roque Santa Cruz is in the 25, as is Michael Johnson, currently battling back from a cruciate knee ligament injury. There are no restrictions for selection for games in either the Carling Cup or the FA Cup.

The 25:

Keepers: Shay Given, Joe Hart, Stuart Taylor.

Defenders: Jerome Boateng, Wayne Bridge, Aleksander Kolarov, Vincent Kompany, Joleon Lescott, Shaleum Logan, Micah Richards, Kolo Toure, Pablo Zabaleta.

Midfielders: Gareth Barry, Nigel de Jong, Adam Johnson, Michael Johnson, James Milner, David Silva, Yaya Toure, Patrick Vieira, Shaun Wright-Phillips.

Forwards: Emmanuel Adebayor, Jo, Roque Santa Cruz, Carlos Tevez.

BTW The owners of Manchester City can get around the rule of UEFA spending ristrictions by putting money in the bank, so they can have it as cash that is already there, before the rules come in place.

But then you will have HMRC knocking on your door asking for tax paid on gifts
