Now That We Have It....REACTIONS

Featured Replies

7/10 (Which, to me, is a really good score for an EP)

LiT ii is predictably epic, and it continues the trend of Coldplay's track 1 dominance. I agree with the band's decision, though, to keep the lyrics off the VLV version. It would not have flowed well into CoL.

Postcards from Far Away is gorgeous. I would love to see these kinds of transitional tracks on full-length albums.

Glass of Water is really nice. I like the extra guitar part on the final explosion. And, WOW, that outro! I've been singing "What are we drinkin' when we're done..." all day.

Rainy Day. Hated the preview, but absolutely love it within the context of the song. It's different, sure, but you can't help but melt when the second "Oh, Rainy Day!" kicks in.

Prospekt's March. Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. Cutting lyrics, and Chris's voice on the line: "I don't wanna die on my own here tonight" is earth-moving. And I like the gentle Poppy Fields outro a lot, too.

Here's my trouble with the EP. Yes, Lost+ and LiJ (Osaka Sun Mix) are the better versions of their respective songs, but they're not different enough to be included here. All they do for me is break up the pace of the less studio-fied tracks that surround them.

NMFWTTG. Reminiscent of Life is for Living and Til Kingdom Come, it's a satisfying closer that doesn't quite live up to my (admittedly unwarranted) hype. Damn Sun review! :P

But, seriously, these are some of the most breathtaking tracks Coldplay have ever recorded. Bravo.

LIT2..... just incredible... not much i can say other then wow.. Top 3 coldplay songs for me. I just love it.

Postcards is an incredibe masterpiece.

Glass of Water is fantastic!!! such a great mood It just makes me smile

Rainy Day....a bit dissapointed. Starts of very misty however it really turns into something different! Will grow on me within an hour.

Prospects March... again very different. What we expected. Nice feel to the song. Gives me shivers

Lover in Japan... definitly enhances the song, however I hate songs like this just added to the Ep's. Same with Lost. Definitly didnt need to be on this.

Now my feet wont touch the ground.... no kidding parachutes!!!! a song everyone will want to learn on their guitar... fantastic...

another CD.....and it just keeps getting better.

All this news of the coldplay retirement just makes me sad.....

:(

i usually just read stuff on this board and don't post, but after listening to Prospekt's March i just had to put in my two cents.

this is really some amazing music. it is so developed and really comes from the heart. the thing i love about coldplay is that you can really get this sense of honesty coming from their music.

every song on this EP is just mind blowing in its own way. you can see they were trying to take things in a new direction but it wasn't contrived or forced at all. each of the 4 guys has really brought their A game on this EP. and the lyrics really are amazing.

i can't get enough. can't wait to get the real thing and listen to it on my ipod as i ride the subway to school everyday. couldn't think of a better way to start off my day than to listen to Life in Technicolor II, Glass of Water, Rainy Day, and Prospekt's March.

really great stuff, i hope everyone enjoys it!

I absolutely love this EP! The overall sound is just so amazing and well it actually feels like an album to me.. the songs just seem to flow like magic. I kind of wish some of these were on VLV.. they would have made the CD that much better! (and it is already incredible to begin with) Another brilliant production by the boys.. keep up the work and thank you guys!!!:)

Its amazing from what I can hear, but can anyone PM me about just an mp3 file? My torrent stuff is being out of wack. and i can't wait. THANKS!

I gave it a 8/10 for most of the same reasons other people didnt give it a really high score. Lost+ and LiJ mix dont really fit with the rest of the ep. Lost+ should have get been a b-side like it is On the Lost ep and same with Lij. Love the rest of it tho really great ep

The EP is pretty good.

Rainy Day reminds me of a song that belongs in a video game.

Prospekt's March is good, reminds me a little bit of AROBTTH. I like it.

Glass of Water is cool.

Now My Feet Won't Touch The Ground is also good. I like the acoustic in it.

Life in Technicolor is the best song ever.

I gave the EP a 7 out of 10 :)

7/10 - Very Solid EP

LiTII - I was disappointed by the GoW widget preview but that song is AWSOME! It is such a beautiful instrumental piece I thought there was no way they could improve on it, I was wrong!

Postcards From Far Away - I didn't relize it but Chris played this 7-25-08 in Philadelphia at the end of Politk. I though he was just improving. Its Ok.I don't really think this qualifies as a ENTIRE track cuz its only like 20 seconds.

Glass of Water - Very good song. Better on the EP then live though. The song does have a great outro.

Rainy Day - I LOVE this song. Prolly my favorite on the EP. The strings are so beautiful and the other uptempo parts in this song are very good as well.

Proskpekt's March/Poppyfields - Classic slow tempo Coldplay with guitar and soft lyrics. Sounds like something off parachutes. Not long enough for me though and I thought that this would be two songs in one since it has two titles like the songs off Viva. But still a solid song.

Lost+ - Not crazy about it. I think the original is good enough without Jay Z. But the second they start colaborating with the Jonas brothers or Miley cirus is the seconds I leave the coldplay bandwagon forever!

Lovers In Japan (Osaka Sun Remix) - Solid pop remix for LIJ. I wish they would have released a acoustic version of LiJ on this album however cuz I've heard the acoutic version and it is unbelieveable

Now My Feet Won't Touch the Ground - I really like the acoustic guitar on this song. Classic Coldplay. Very Very Very good. My 2nd or 3rd favorite off the album.

I'm gonna be at their first UK show...

If they play LiTii instead of the VLV version, I am going to die right there on the spot.

wow. i never thought rainy day would be the favorite one to the most.

not my intention to be the spoiler of "shiny happy people" world now lol but i find this song so disappointing - it's clearly a viva la vida wannabe, the text is ridiculous and the music really is like from a video game - am i not noticing something about it...?

i much prefer to hear songs like postcards from far away and prospekt's march - both brilliant songs. not that i don't like glass of water and lit II they are great as well...but compare the brilliance of these 2 ballads to rainy day...

Sorry, im not agree atl all. For me, songs like A High Speed, Such A Rush, Bigger Stronger, A Ghost, For You are amongst the weakest of the Coldplay, Rainy Day - is unbelievably awesome! I love evey bit of it. Music is just a piece of art, and lyrics are impressive.

lol when did i mention those songs anyway :laugh3:

Well after listening to it non-stop all day, my educated reaction:

LiT ii - No change, this version is amazing! One of Chris' best works musically and lyrically, yes it may be poppy. But it is brilliant! Next #1 single for the boys. And I cant wait to hear it live if they roll back into Canada.

Glass of Water - This is classic Coldplay! Rhythmic, Melodic and rocking. This is the first song I will compare to the God that is Politik! When I first heard it a few months back, I said the studio has the possibility to be better than Politik. And well this is the VLV era Politik. I can not get enough of this song, it has everything that Coldplay is...and amazing lyrics to boot

Rainy Day - The coolest most unique sounding Coldplay song...ever. They explore new territory and it pays off HUGE! One of their best. Even if we can understand it.

Prospekts March/Poppyfeilds - I like to call this sonf Episode 6...Return of the Coldplay! This song shows off what Chris and the boys do perfectly. His lyrics are getting even better and better. And the Parachutes era sound is so raw and amazing.

Now My Feet Wont Touch The Ground - Reminds me of my favorite X&Y song...Kingdom Come. Short and sweet, and very very strong. If this is the last song they release I would be satisfied and proud to be a Coldplayer.

Remixs - Opinion the same.

My comments are that this is what I was looking for with VLV! This is old Coldplay meets Brian Eno. This proves to me that the more time you spend producing a song, the more you lose the feel of it. Most of these songs are under produced compared to VLV. Thats why it is brilliant. Too often now a days, artist spend so much time in the studio trying to perfect their sound, they lose the brilliance of the songs.

I hope for LP 5 next year. They take a Parachutes/AROBTTH/Prospekts March approach to making the album not a X&Y/VLV where they focus to much on production. They need to let the music take them places and not the opinions of critics. Then and only then will they give us an album that will define them.

Mark my words, if they do it right, next year we will get our generations Joshua Tree. The rock album to define the decade. Coldplay will be up there with The Beatles, Stones, U2 and Nirvana. Music is waiting for Coldplay to break it wide open.

Not you but other guy who didnt like RD either

LiT 2 - great song from start to finnish. with the shorter version on the album and getting this now it really adds to the experience of listening to it. The lyrics are great, and it is full circle with the chanting at the end.

Postcards From Far Away - simple. it is easy to listen to and i think draws a bridge between Coldplay and Sigur Ros. that is what i thought, it just reminds me of the ( ) album, which was FANTASTIC

Glass Of Water - amazing song. definitely single worthy and i think this song brings us back some "clocks" meets "Politik" great tune

Rainy Day - STANDOUT. the strings make it VLV's evil twin. the song is not evil, but is shorter and has so much beauty with its little quarkyness at the beginning

Prospekt's March / Poppyfields - amazing. the softness of Chris's voice is spectacular and with the very subtle guitar is great. the little outro called poppyfields i feel is great, although it could have been longer.

Lost + - good song and all, the Jay-Z was GREAT, i dont care what you all say, but they should have had the solo longer and louder!

LIJ - better than the album version, 'nuff said

Now My Feet Won't Touch The Ground - folk song and it is great! brings us back to Parachutes era, and till kingdom come. great song

All in all the EP was great, i had a couple higher expectations for a couple of songs, but other than that it was no more that i could have asked for.

all these songs could be performed by a marching band, which is why i think they chose this name, and it works to perfection

I love a lot about this new EP, but it could of done without the crap Lost+ for sure. Also I think Life in Technicolor works so much better without lyrics, come on you lot open your ears a lot of the lyrics just don't fit/flow!

It's all about Glass of Water & NMFWTTG for me :-) Good work guys.

After listening to it 24 times(25 right now), I've come to the conclusion that glass of water and LiTII are definitely stand out tracks. Rainy Day grew on me, although I generally enjoyed it from the beginning, and I fell in love with Now my Feet Won't touch the ground. I don't think Lost+ or LiJ should have been on there, they kind of stick out. I also think Prospekt's March is great, and it really calms me down.

All in all, very nice work :)

After mulling over the poll for a while, I chose 9/10. My only problem with the EP is, like most people, the addition of the remixes. I just think the EP could've had a much better flow without Lost+ and LIJ... I made a playlist on my iPod without those two, and it sounds great.

The songs are short, but I don't think that's a reason to mark the EP down in any way. If these were album songs, I'm sure they'd be expanded, but the fact is that they're not album songs.

Overall, it's just an incredible EP. It really has a bit of everything- experimentation, old Coldplay, great lyrics, #1 single-worthy melodies, and just great work all around. To get all that from a little EP is unbelievably rare, and shows just how great Coldplay is.

wow. i never thought rainy day would be the favorite one to the most.

not my intention to be the spoiler of "shiny happy people" world now lol but i find this song so disappointing - it's clearly a viva la vida wannabe, the text is ridiculous and the music really is like from a video game - am i not noticing something about it...?

As hard as I try, I can't see how this in any way a "VLV wannabe", other than the fact that both have strings. I think it has a great guitar hook, melody and general sound, and it's just so different. I think that's why people (including me) like it so much. I believe it depends if you've been craving some old-school mellow Coldplay, or to hear them push the envelope.

Personally I've been craving it all, so I love it all! :P

yea i really love it. this is my first post since getting it last night. i'm really surprised how much i love postcards from far away... yes we've heard it already and yes its short and simple... but something about this studio version really does something for me. the sound is soo much better than it is live. my next biggest surprise is how much i love prospekts march. it kind of reminds me of parachutes era stuff with a little x&y mixed in. its just so soft and chris's voice is so good. i think one thing that i was disappointed with 'viva la vida' was the lack of slow, quiet, more personal songs. i loved the album but pretty much everything on it was fast or upbeat. so its nice to get prospekts march and NMFWTTG because they are both quiet and acousticy. aside from all that i love glass of water and life in technicolor ii is also very fun to listen to. i cant believe how different rainy day is... its pretty funky but i like it alot. overall this EP is greatttt and i think it was a really good move on coldplay's part to release it.

It IS a Rainy Day

I listened to the EP for the first time on my bus ride home from school...and I swear when Rainy Day started, I thought it was someone's ringtone going off really loudly or something! I was like...hmm interesting sound! Hahaha. But it is an awesome song...and I am from Seattle, WA, so it is very fitting! ;)

I just had a thought...

If Lost+ had been Lost? and LiJ (Osaka Sun Mix) had been LiJ (Acoustic), I think the flow of this EP would've been nearly perfect. I think I'll burn a copy that way.

My problem is that I listened to Day & Age first, was blown away by that, and when I listened to PM i just didnt get into it. But After a couple more listens I've come to love it, agree with many that Lost + and even LIJ should have been left of for others, perhaps LeftRightLeft and Lukas?

I liked 4 songs

2 songs I already heard

2 are not there yet

BY FAR, Prospekt's March is definitely the best EP from Coldplay :D
