Coldplay say YES! to Glee

Featured Replies

just posted this somewhere else, but:

If Coldplay is on Glee, I will actually lose some of my respect for them. seriously. I've never truly been disappointed in the boys before, but if this happens I'll be so disappointed in them!

THIS!!

I've already stated my feelings in this thread before, but I'll say it again. I agree with Zoe, I'll honestly loose respect for them. And I've never been so disappointed and mad at them, I really really really hope they don't do this. So many people are saying that Coldplay have gone commercial after the release of Viva la Vida, a Coldplay song on Glee just proves them all right. It will truly mean that Coldplay has gone commercial. It's a shitty American tv show for fuck's sake and the people who watch it prefer the Glee versions of the songs anyway and honestly is Glee really the way you would want your fans to discover your band?! The boys used to be against commercial shit like this, so strongly against it. What happened? This cannot happen.

I don't really know how you can lose some respect for a band for something like

- them just letting one of their songs be sung in a show ( if it does happen )

Is it any different from radiohead and muse letting their songs be used in the twilight movies? ( and they're bad movies )

well, I've never had any respect for Radiohead or Muse, so... :P

the thing about Glee is that it's such a teen-pop-sensation thing, that it really feels like a bit of a sell out for them to be on it :\

I don't actually think there is a Radiohead song in the Twilight movies

And it's different because in the movies, it's still the band's song playing in the background. Glee sings their own version and butchers music.

15 step was definitely in the credits...going by information from the internet and friends.

That is a good point,

but they don't always do the large vocal arrangement on every song.

Honestly, that wouldn't suit their songs.

They've done many a simple piano and duet or solo style arrangement.

I think you're just imagining the worst.

Just try to get the thoughts of all of them dancing and singing Viva la vida out of your head :bigcry:

Coldplay went uber commercial with X&Y though. Viva is a step back from that (despite the Apple advert)

This is Phil Harvey, right? Why is he referring to himself as pHiL? :D

I think that's just how he "signs" his name on the site. He posted something else before, I think it was regarding the dolphin documentary (that ended up winning an Oscar), and he signed it the same way. I think it's more of an ode to science: pH factor/balance. But I could be wrong.

EDIT: http://www.coldplay.com/newsdetail.php?id=585&page=20

Wait . . . is Phil saying the whole story of Coldplay turning GLEE down AND then changing their mind is not true? Or just the turning down part?

I think just the turning down part isn't true. Or "bollocks". I had to look up that word because I didn't know what it meant. :freak:

Indeed it is. And Thom Yorke contributed a track to the second film's soundtrack (it's also in the movie). It's called Hearing Damage. Awesome song.

As a fan of Glee, I'd love to hear them do a Coldplay song. But if the band doesn't want to do it, it's their music. I don't think any less of them.

Havent you noticed something....all this "commercial" stuff started when they got a new manager.

I think Chris even said it once that Dave wanted them to put their songs in shampoo commercials or something like that..not sure.

Well, I was a little miffed Coldplay turned down the offer, but after thinking about it, i don't see how the Glee cast could've pulled it off. :)

I'm a bit behind the pace on this one, but the story about Coldplay turning down Glee is bollocks.

pHiL

I don't think it would really matter if they did or didn't either way the original songs are still the same, and if the covers are done well it might generate more interest.

i think i might cry if they do, it would kil the songs and there is only one person to sing coldplays song and that is chris, sureley they can make there own songs and not just rely on chris's talent for writing

GO AWAY GLEE!!!

Phil is as great as always! Ciao Phil!!! :D

pHil? since when does coldplay.com has typos?

Honestly, I really hope Coldplay shows up on Glee. They've covered everyone else, from AC/DC to Carrie Underwood, so why not Coldplay? I think that would be a fun addition to an episode, regardless of what they do with it.

And I'm just curious, why do you guys hate Glee so much? I've seen proper explanations as to why some users here enjoy the show, but I have yet to hear from the opposite camp. I like Glee because it's fun. It works well when it's dramatic and it works well when it's comedic. It's somewhere halfway between sitcom and drama, but despite this it manages to be a fun, lighthearted show, which is something we don't really have on TV right now.

I watched Glee for the first time today. And I think I might just have to change my opinion on the whole Glee affair.

I thought it was good. :o

I have to admit the singing was a bit cringey, but it's seems to be just light-hearted entertainment; and what's wrong with that?

And besides, if it means Coldplay are featured in Glee, then they'll start to have more radio time and they might go back into the album and singles charts. (Like Madonna's music did) And that's a good thing.

And anyway it's about time some of the Glee fans were educated about Coldplay music.

I look forward to catching up on the Glee episodes that I've missed.

Might be good to hear a Coldplay cover, hopefully they don't go for one of the obvious choices though - although I think that they would.

Theirs a vid on YouTube of the guy who made Glee talking bout Coldplay and how they turned them down and 2 weeks later Coldplay called and said they were wrong.

OMG YESSSSSSSSSSSS!! THANK YOU GOD!!!

glee is such a great show & i'm sorry but it just made the guys look so duechy that they wouldn't let them sing their songs!!! obviously no one can do coldplay justice, but i know glee will do a pretty damn good job!!
