I've never watched Glee, I dont even know what it's about (some kind of musical I guess..) but I liked the idea of the whole band appearing on the show :D Actually, it doesn't matter which show. Just to see them acting would be priceless ;D

Of course, there's no guarantee it will be good, when they cover a Coldplay song, because Coldplay is the music closest to my heart and I'm therefore biased.

Yeah, I like that thought. :) Lily Allen's "Smile" was done in a sweet way.

 

I hope they'll do something else than Viva La Vida, which they probably will, especially as Matthew Morrison, lead role, has expressed a wish for that, but really just any Coldplay song. He's playing a Spanish teacher too and it's their biggest hit, so everything points at it.) If they do cover Viva La Vida, I hope one of the guys sing it and they all sing as a choir on the "woah"s.

I don't mind Glee at all and before all this crap started wouldn't have minded their songs being used at all but this Ryan Murphy creater guy is a complete and utter tool!

It's a shitty American tv show for fuck's sake and the people who watch it prefer the Glee versions of the songs anyway and honestly is Glee really the way you would want your fans to discover your band?!

 

Stop with the accusations and judging, please. :thinking: I watch Glee and I really like most of the Glee versions of the songs, but that does not mean that I prefer their versions over the originals. In fact I've gotten to know a lot of great songs through Glee, that I wouldn't have paid attention to if not through that. Do you know that the sales for the songs in their original versions by the original musicians go up after they've been featured in an episode of Glee?

I see nothing wrong with discovering bands and music that way.

 

Would you react the same way as you do to this if a Coldplay song was to be sung by other favourite singers of yours in your favourite TV show?

Just because you don't like the show for whatever reason, doesn't mean that Coldplay go to some lower level by agreeing to letting them cover their songs.

As we all know, Coldplay are just nice fellas - they just lend their songs to a TV show that celebrates music (and covered The Beatles, Queen and other big ones). A show Coldplay might actually like. They're not selling their souls to Death and All His Friends or anything. Don't watch it if you don't like it. Don't panic.

When they perform Viva La Vida, knowing they will, it will be utterly cringe-worthy. There, I said it. I think I'll watch it just to measure the cringe it instilled in me.

IMO a Glee cover of Viva la Vida would be pretty cool. It would kind of be like their cover of Don't Stop Believing and Finn would prolly get the lead. :thinking:

LONDON - Coldplay have issued an apology to the makers of hit US show “Glee” for not allowing them to use their music for a special episode.

 

The band has now sent an apology letter to the maker of the show Ryan Murphy and authorized him the full use of their entire music catalogue.

 

After the success of a Madonna tribute show in April, the band admitted they “were wrong” to have rejected the opportunity.

 

“At the beginning a lot of people didn’t know what we were and asked to see pages (in advance), but I refused because I didn’t want to set precedent of them having any involvement,” The Daily Star quoted Murphy as telling The Hollywood Reporter.

 

He added: “My favourite rejection was Bryan Adams. Coldplay and Bryan Adams were really the only rejections. But Coldplay called a week ago and said, ‘We’re sorry, you can have our catalogue’.” (ANI)
