this only after 18 hours, ahhahah fantastic..

Oh Christmas lights, light up the street, light up the fireworks in me, may all your troubles soon be gone, those Christmas lights, keep shinin' on.!!

 Everyone needs to calm down with all the "last big shot" and "Feburary 9th" stuff :P. We all should know by now the way Chris talks, and besides, I don't think he meant it in a way that said this could be their last album...I think he meant to say that this upcoming album is important in securing their legacy or not.

I agree. But, the problem with "the way Chris talks" is that he is turning into the little boy who cried wolf. If he is always making comments like that (we're done after this album or that album or this age or when my receding hairline reaches a certain point), people will get to the point where they just brush him off. So at some point in the future when he actually means it, people won't take him seriously.

Did anyone else notice the fish eating a boat in the video?

Oh, and I love the "Still waiting for the snow to fall, it doesn't really feel like Christmas at all."-Part.. and the rest of the song. ♥

Seems it's going good everywhere except from here. :laugh3:

Like I just posted in another thread they just "tested" the song on my local radio station - they always get their listeners to decide whether new songs are good enough to be played on the radio or not. I guess my positive vote for the song didn't really help against the 95% who voted that they didn't like it though.

95% DIDN'T LIKE IT ?!?!

Danish people, tsk...

Aaaawwww they're playing Christmas Lights on Europe1 (French). It's not even a music channel

95%?! That's crazy!

... And I love the piano after that part:) and voices of Coldplayers on the boat are fabulous! Is it You singing- ?

The song is getting better with every single listening... Chris's voice is just marvellous. I love the painted piano, colouring of the video, this red curtains:)

but- still- I miss a lot that part: "six feet of snow and water deep.."

Yup!:smug::P

I just heard it on the radio for the first time, introduced by Chris and Jonny :D

When VLV came out he said they have to do their best work by the time they are 33..Now he said they have to do it by 35..

Now it's 9 on USA :)

It's top 10 in japan too !!

Here's a Swedish review of the single... Roughly translated by me :P

4/5

Coldplay - Christmas Lights

On one hand Coldplay's new single is quite cliché. On the other - so is Christmas. It's the same theme, same feelings, same sound, year after year. But then again, why start a fight with Santa?

"Christmas lights" starts out with the lyrics "Christmas night, another fight/Tears we cry, to flood" and finishes with a sampled New Year's firework.

Coldplay Christmas single is not a new "Last Christmas", only a modern cliché fest.

But don't be fooled.

"Christmas lights" is in reality just as huge.

The piano that carries Coldplay's Christmas anthem, their first single in almost two years, is magnificent.

It's as if the Englishmen's weak "Strawberry Swing" has gotten a dozen turbo engines and extra rocket fuel as Christmas present.

As usual when it comes to this orchestra it's around the seventh or eight listen that the whole drama unfolds. That which first sounds like a rather ordinary Elton John single with a tempo change too much soon turns into a string bejeweled football psalm with extra melancholy and a few snow covered minor chords to die for.

Brilliant.

I think most fans already understand that what he says offers little or no genuine insight into things like this, don't they? For me, they clearly have no plan, and are just keeping going as long as they can/feel like it. It sounds like there was some discord after the last tour of the States, and I think it'll be at a moment like that at some point that they'll call it a day. It won't be planned, it'll just happen.

Seems it's going good everywhere except from here. :laugh3:

That is a deliciously schizophrenic review - brilliant in itself, thanks for translating Anna!! :D

Danish Soundvenue music and expression - a Danish music media - writes this about Christmas Lights - a coming Christmas classic (translated by me):

Coldplay switch on Christmas lights in the winter darkness

by Iben Foss on 2 December 2010 at 09:39am

With fireworks and violin-playing Elvises, Coldplay get Christmas started with their new song 'Christmas Lights', but the lyrics »Still waiting for the snow to fall / It doesn't really feel like Christmas at all« has clearly been written before Northern Europe was raped by a gigantic snowman so maybe now Chris Martin is in good Christmas spirits? The band have also made a video about the making of the video so that you can see how the theater show came about in their 'Making Coldplay's Christmas Lights video'.

The video is also posted there.

Yaaay making of video

more boat clips :awesome:
