Bands that you can't stand, but respect?

Featured Replies

I thought we had this topic recently, but maybe I'm thinking of a different forum. Oh well.

My choice is Oasis. Though I like some selections from their first two albums, they mostly grate on my nerves (and yes, that includes "Wonderwall"). Still, they put quite a mark in the British rock world, despite their negative antics gaining the most press. Bands like Arctic Monkeys probably wouldn't have gained the momentum they have without Oasis paving the way.

Zeppelin ... Respect, but can't stand.

The two main artists are: Bruce Springsteen and Jimi Hendrix (like some songs, but never got into his music)

Good calls.

I'm actually going to ad Green Day.

and Hey Rosetta.

Neutral Milk Hotel.

Well, I guess just On Avery Island. I know it's an awesome album, but I can't stomach it.

Aeroplane was okay.

Yoko Ono.

I just don't get it.

I don't like or respect Yoko.

The Black Eyed Peas

I'm kidding.

Bob Marley. He has a couple of good songs, but overall, I cannot listen to his music.

You have not listened to U2 a day in your life have you?

Boy - Punk Rock

October - Spiritual Rock

War - Punk Rock

The Unforgettable Fire - Alternative

The Joshua Tree - Rock

Rattle and Hum - Blues

Achtung Baby - Techno Rock

Zooropa - Alternative Techno

Pop - Alternative Dance

All That You Can't Leave Behind - Pop Rock

How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb - Rock

No Line On The Horizon - Hymnic Rock

NONE of U2's albums sound the same. :dozey:

Bjork

Prince

there are many.

but because they believe superior, no humility. example Bjork I heard tapped the fans .

celebrities who insults the fans or tape, I have no respect either

I think Pop and Zooropa have similar feels, as does HTDAAB and ATYCLB. Early U2 sounds similar too. I don't see much difference between Boy and October except that I like October less.

The Rolling Stones are very boring IMO, apart from a few songs (You Can't Always Get What You Want, Paint It Black, etc are classics of course)

Queen. I don't think I respect them either come to think of it, despite them influencing a lot of bands I like.

The Clash are boring as well to me, but again, they have my respect.

There are probably others...

Some of those aren't actually real genre names, but I get where you're coming from. I'd say they're like this:

Boy, October, War - Post-Punk

The Unforgettable Fire - Alternative Rock/Post-Punk

The Joshua Tree and Rattle & Hum - Rock/Blues Rock/Heartland Rock

Achtung Baby - Alternative Rock/Pop Rock/Industrial Rock

Zooropa - Alternative Rock/Experimental Rock/Electronic

Pop - Alternative Rock/Pop Rock/Alternative Dance

All That You Can't Leave Behind - Pop Rock/Rock

How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb - Rock

No Line on the Horizon - Rock

I was thinking about the Beatles, but I can't really stand their music. I guess what they did for music was good, but they don't deserve that much of a legacy. The Velvet Underground are much more tolerable IMO, and they're not death worn over worn over worn over... I can't stand britpop much at all, old or new. It all sounds exactly the same.

Zeppelin ... Respect, but can't stand.

Pretty much this.

Boy - Punk Rock

War - Punk Rock

The Joshua Tree - Rock

How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb - Rock

I'm confused

Queen and Muse. Really not my cup of tea. But I know a lot of people like them and maybe I'm wrong.

With Queen, it's just that I don't like the symphonic rock, the sound of it, and the 10 songs in one idea Bohemian Rhapsody is. And Don't Stop Me Now is easily one of the worst things I've ever heard.

With Muse, he voice is the big issue. I don't like Bellamy's singing at all. The bombastic, whining voice (In my opinion) and singing throughout.

But next to that, I can really really enjoy Muse instrumentally. It's great, it's world class.

And Queen has obviously been an influence to a ridiculous amount of great top bands. I can't deny the greatness of Queen. Mercury is a legend, no doubt. I just can't stand their music. Bicycle Race and I Want To Break Free are alright though.

^I think Queen is a huge influence on Muse. Example: Muse's "United States of Eurasia + Collateral Damage" Sounds almost exactly like some of Queen's bigger, more epic stuff.

Although if you do like Muse instrumental I'd suggest Blackout instrumental (if you haven't already heard it), it's beautiful even without Matt's singing.

Oh please, world music and specialists who make the music review. in the past Muse and Mew have just been confused....... :dozey: said same world strange .

the band Muse was the most top because it is the more commercial and marketable. Mew is held out as the dirty band strange depressing. and ostaire. monstrous strange world and the singer has a little girl's voice. okay and I'm tomboy I can understand .

and then is U2 has said. World Class but that's also for ennoy Mew maybe
