Thousands of fans enjoying Coldplay - despite drenching rain and strike action

THIS is the scene at the Stadium of Light in Sunderland tonight where thousands of people are continue to enjoy a concert by rock giants Coldplay.

 

Fans converged on the stadium from throughout the North-East and reported few problems getting there - despite a 24-hour strike by railmen over pay.

 

Raincoats, ponchos and umbrellas came out as drenching rain fell on the crowds - but nothing was going to spoil the evening.

 

Jessica Hopper, of Darlington, said: "There were no problems whatsoever getting to the concert.

 

“There was heavier traffic than expected, but a lot of people got space to park in the matchday parking area.”

 

This photograph was taken by George Ibbetson and posted on Twitter. He tweeted: “It’s a wet one but hey, it’s still going to go off.”
