PoC video

Featured Replies

There are so many comments about "no story" but to me there is, indeed, a story in the video. However, since the video is intended to be a "trailer" for something else (note the first couple of seconds), the story doesn't have an ending.

Here we have two characters who once were deeply and purely in love. They were of one mind (hence the forehead-touching) - "on the same side in the same game". However something happened to lure the female character away from the values they shared. She has embraced wealth, glamour, and thigh-high red plastic boots - quite a change from the virginal white of her previous costume. The male character remained pure but still feels drawn to his former love. He seeks her out, fighting his way to her, and is appalled to see what she has become. She tries to tempt him ("could've been a king, could've had a castle, worn a ring"); he remains strong. But both of them reveal instances of weakness and yearning for the other.

The cliffhanger is - will she succeed in bringing him to the dark side? Or will he make her see the error of her ways and win her back?

We'll have to wait for "Princess of China: The Movie" to find the answer!

^ yeah it does say trailer, I wonder why?

I hope no there is no movie, I don't want Chris acting ( i don't think he's that good at it)

I think the "trailer" part is just part of the video concept - I was joking about the movie, I am positive there won't be one!

Well, in going to be the superficial one and say I gave PoC a 10/10 just for the fact that Chris looked impeccable and gorgeous. I loved the scruff.

P.S I give permission to judge me. I deserve it.

Could'nt agree more technicolour-swing, he looks gorgeous!

Gave it a 6. It's cool but rather bland.

I also agree. I gave it a 10 as well. I love the film clip and Chris looks drop dead gorgeous. I think he would make a great actor.

this is true, i never considered the trailer idea (for whatever reason; it's not like it was made obvious or anything :P).

even as a "trailer," though, it still has some issues with editing and, um, intrigue. :P

I just saw this comment on Youtube.

20% music 30% acting and 50% editing pretty obvious they never been to china

NO WAAAY, YOU THINK SO ?!

:bomb:

Sometimes Youtube makes me want to kill myself :|

Princess of China

Amazing, Super Beautiful video, the more I see it the more beautiful it is, I love the colors in the desert and inside, Rihanna is just gorgeous and I love the Kung Fu scenes and when they're flying in front of the full moon it would make a beautiful painting, it's one of the most beautiful videos I've seen and it's Coldplay so it's even better.

^All decors of the video are fake (desert, moon,...). Everything is done by computer, there is nothing impressive.

The video was okay for me. I guess I was expecting a bit more, or maybe I just need to watch it again. My favorite music video by far is Charlie Brown. It was awesome.

inb4 ultimate troll and the movie is Slashed

omg I really should ignore the comments on Youtube, they're so stupid, it's really annoying. :bomb:

Anyway, just posting because idk if it's been discussed somewhere else, but the video on ColdplayVEVO is already at more than 9 454 000 views! Quite impressive for a Coldplay video!

But rather normal for a Rihanna one...

Viva La Vida: 103,409,261

Paradise: 120,233,070

vs.

:)

^Yeah, but in much much more time! The PoC video has only been out for a week! If it continues like this, it'll reach 100 million views pretty soon (much sooner than for Paradise or VLV). That's what I meant by "impressive for a Coldplay video"

How many views is Charlie Brown at, for comparison?

Rihanna did really add the sugar on the top, but it was still good

What sort of Asian culture were they trying to portray? Or did they not really pay much attention to that? It seems very confused to me.

more all roads go in Roma not problem .

It is actually meant to be the trailer of an old kung-fu movie. And it actually refers to a movie in particular, as Amber explained here. So, no confusion on Asian culture here :)

I still love the song and both Rihanna and Chris look great in it. I surely don’t mind Rihanna showing her ass, as some keep on bringing up back here, hahaha!

The video seems a bit messy though. Of course a video does not need to tell a story - nor did I expect it to - and can just serve to enhance the underlying sphere of a song, but for me these snippets lack cohort. Maybe it's the editing, maybe not, but it disturbed me a bit.

On the other hand, they managed to give me just that sentiment of a movie like Crouching Tiger/ Hidden Dragon (did you guys see the dragon in the videoclip as well?!), House Of Flying Daggers, Kill Bill, Kung PoW!, Drunken Master, etc...

I enjoyed the scenery and theme. And still love the song :D

did anyone notice the influence of Kung Fu Panda 2 on this video?

Rihanna

Shen (the villain)

and all those scenarios are very similar too :o

Personally I think the scenes with the many armes look more like inspired by a Hindu Goddess/Deity such as Durga

durga_puja_in_kolkata_2008.jpg

or Lady Buddha like already mentioned here.

If the many arms and long nails of Rihanna are supposed to be inspired by that white peacock, that seems a bit farfetched to me tbh. Royals or deities are more often depicted with long nails, including Hindu deities. Or evil women for that matter, like Lady Deathstrike in the X-men comic

Notice how she also has some 'things' behind her that could resemble a peacock's tail as much as arms behind Rihanna :S Oh, and she used to be Wolverine's lover and fight ninjas!

I would say that there's similarities, yes, but to go as far as say that the videoclip is inspired by Kung Fu Panda ... I think that both Kung Fu Panda and this videoclip are inspired by Kung Fu movies and the like (I know this is an open door, but okay, hahaha).

btw, X-men is AWESOME!!! SO IS Dragonball (Z)!!! KaméHAMEE FOREVUHH!!! <###

I figured out according to the poll the average score is 6.34 with 510 voters
