I think it's the best option, though it's not ideal because my new partner may get a tape mostly of songs they already know but it's better than nothing.

:surprised: Hey, that's not too shabby. Some good stuff in there.

Ahhhhh I want a review :(

A mixtape review

The person whom put it together did a good job at removing any information, 14 tracks long totalling 53 minutes.

Track 1 – Nice relaxing instructional short song

Track 2 – No real intro, goes straight into vocals, not English and sung fast, mainly vocals with a faith background of music, until around 3 minutes 30 where it goes kinda funky

Track 3 – Sounds like something from the 60s, late 60s from the psychedelic era, nice.

Track 4 – Sounds like something from the brit-pop era, singer has a good voice

Track 5 – Nice intro, bit folkie, non-english track, sounds Swedish or Icelandic, builds up really well around 1:30, live track from the ending bit, never would have guessed that

Track 6 – 20 second track, Sounds like a “messing around in studio” track

Track 7 –Sounds like a country track, nice track

Track 8 – bit loud compared to previous tracks, sounds a bit like MGMT

Track 9 – Bit rappy, couldn’t hear the background vocals as they were too fast, sounds like it’s had some auto-tune at somepoint

Track 10 – Sound of nature at the start, talking, people playing, seagulls, something from the 1960s at first, but that sounds like Gruff Rhys. Something from his Hotel Shampoo album?

Track 11 – I don’t think my volume leveller is working, as it’s gone quiet, male singer with a female backing, sounds like good lyrics, nice song, sounds a bit like Glen Hansard

Track 12 – Has a bit of 1980s about it, nice song. Good backing music matched to some good vocals

Track 13 – Nice violin action at the start carrying on in the song. Nice, changes around 4 minutes in, to a more darker song, changes again back to the first song around 6 minutes.

Track 14 – Random sound clip at the start before going into a piano track with a singer. His voice will get annoying after a while

So overall, a rather nice mixtape :)

I haven't got a review of my mixtape either!

And, I'm almost happy with my review, so it should be here Monday or Tuesday ;)

MY REVIEW:

1. Sunshiney. I like this. Really fun, upbeat and catchy. Very good Believe it or not, the name of the track is Good Morning Sunshine by Alex Day! So sunshine is correct!

2. Muse? I've never been that fussed on Muse, they seem a bit pretenious sometimes, but this is decent song. Has a good beat, nice synthy bits and grungey guitar. I've heard it before but dunno the name of the song. Yes, Muse. Starlight to be exact~

3. Hmmmm odd start. Then it all goes a bit Paramore. It's not really horrible but it's not my sort of thing, I don't like her vocal, too aggressive and angsty. And it is Paramore! Misery Business to be exact.

4. Cute little acoustic with story-telling-type lyrics. Not bad, sounds a bit dull tho, like a watered down Frank Turner. Don't like the guy's accent either. Yeah... I downloaded these from YouTube/Gtunes on my phone so that's why it's not the best. It's Kiss the Girl by Chameleon Circuit, a Doctor Who inspired band~

5. Sounds like Keane. Again it's not a bad song, it's ok but nothing special about it. It's all a bit too mainstream for me to get excited tho. Keane it is. Silenced by the Night.

6. Haha ok it's all gone a bit dracula...creepy. Phantom of the Opera, ok, complete gear change, wasn't expecting that. Not bad, even if it is a little 70s. You are really good at knowing these songs. I only chose it because my school's chorus will sing this sooooo...

7. I know this. Simply Red, omfg! Off the Stars album, am I right? My mum had this lp on cassette tape, waaay back when. Think I used to try and nick it off her. Great song, even if Mick Hucknell does give me the creeps... THANK GOD I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO LIKES THIS IN 2013. It's a flashback to my childhood...

...ok after the last two tracks I am confused what age my mixtape maker is, I was thinking late teens but now I'm not so sure :D (( mid teens))

8. Instrumental, like a movie soundtrack. Or sounds like something off Fantastia. Keeps fading in and out which is odd, but it's pretty. TV soundtrack, actually. It's Welcome to London from the Sherlock soundtrack.

9. Killllllerrrrs ? LOVE this song, haven't heard it in aaages. "I got soul, but I'm not a soldier" Brilliant Correct! I'm becoming obsessed over this song...

10. More Muse? Sounds like Matt Bellamy anyway. Not bad, grungey, solid drumming. Liking the distorted guitar solo. Ermmm... yes... It's Thoughts of a Dying Atheist.

11. Instumental? Slow start. Sounds like a movie soundtrack thingie again, all dramatic tension building. Now some soft but high pitched singing, it's ok I guess. Quite dramatic, nice strings. This is Muse again! I was gonna take this off because there were too many Muse tracks but I thought why not? (Exogenisis Symphony Part 1: Overture)

12. Omg The Bee Gees - are u kidding me? What can I say, don't want to bad mouth it cos it's a classic but it's not something I'd choose to listen to personally. It's so cheesy. :laugh3: I kid you not! I wanted this to end the entire thing on a light note so there ya go!

Interesting mixtape there, thanks :) You mixed it up a bit with different styles. Overall tho, it was a bit too mainstream for me (although there was a few curveballs in there ) I really like it when a mixtape gives me a few new artists to get excited about tho, but you achieved that with Track 1, I'd like to know who did that one and check out more from that guy

Anyway Thanks :)

I'm glad you liked the weirdness! Thanks for the review! :D (and sorry for being late. :P)

Damn, you put enough Muse on your tape. (Not that I as a Muse fan think this is necessarily a problem...)

I'll finish and post my review this evening

That is what I thought about doing, because I have sent emails and messages and got nothing. So I do not know. When I asked about it, some where not very happy to do that... Lol
That was in the beginning. Of course people didn't like it that their mixtape would go to another person than the one it was intented for. I really tried to make it up to the person and I am quite sure some others wouldn't appreciate the tape. But seeing as the receiver hasn't let anything know I am afraid my tape is one of these that didn't go to the receiver :(

If just people would let know that they received it ... that would already enlighten us a bit. Hearing that a review is coming up soon like here above is even better, no great!

coldlocked, I miss of many of your mixtape songs the title. Would you like to provide us with the tracklisting? I am curious, like if that Simple Minds song is the one that I totally love of him (god, he is creepy, eh?) and which Beegees song you used, because I listen to Beegees as well :}

I will be sending the links today then :)

Hi Dave! I was kinda intimidated when I got you because we have very similar tastes in music, but in a way that's a good thing because you won't be too alienated by other songs I like

Sorry if there were any problems with it being a bit too loud, too quiet etc., most of the tracks I had to play on Spotify and have the computer record them directly (not through a microphone lol) because they were virtually impossible to find on the Internet :disappointed: I think they all came out good sound quality though and now I've found a good way to pirate music (:awesome: haha)

A mixtape review

The person whom put it together did a good job at removing any information, 14 tracks long totalling 53 minutes.

:sweatdrop: phew

Track 1 – Nice relaxing instructional short song

Track 2 – No real intro, goes straight into vocals, not English and sung fast, mainly vocals with a faith background of music, until around 3 minutes 30 where it goes kinda funky

It's in French

Track 3 – Sounds like something from the 60s, late 60s from the psychedelic era, nice.

I know  the song however, is from a collection of songs that were all made in the 90s/00s I think

Track 4 – Sounds like something from the brit-pop era, singer has a good voice

Track 5 – Nice intro, bit folkie, non-english track, sounds Swedish or Icelandic, builds up really well around 1:30, live track from the ending bit, never would have guessed that

It's in Spanish

Track 6 – 20 second track, Sounds like a “messing around in studio” track

It's a little track sent to me by a Coldplayer, they were just messing about on their computer, thought it sounded really cool so I used it as an interlude.

Track 7 –Sounds like a country track, nice track

I thought you might not like this one as it's a little odd, happy you did :wacky:

Track 8 – bit loud compared to previous tracks, sounds a bit like MGMT

Track 9 – Bit rappy, couldn’t hear the background vocals as they were too fast, sounds like it’s had some auto-tune at somepoint

Track 10 – Sound of nature at the start, talking, people playing, seagulls, something from the 1960s at first, but that sounds like Gruff Rhys. Something from his Hotel Shampoo album?

It is from Hotel Shampoo :P he does sample a 60s song in this song btw, can't remember which one

Track 11 – I don’t think my volume leveller is working, as it’s gone quiet, male singer with a female backing, sounds like good lyrics, nice song, sounds a bit like Glen Hansard

Sounds fine to me upon listening back, but again sorry

Track 12 – Has a bit of 1980s about it, nice song. Good backing music matched to some good vocals

Track 13 – Nice violin action at the start carrying on in the song. Nice, changes around 4 minutes in, to a more darker song, changes again back to the first song around 6 minutes.

Track 14 – Random sound clip at the start before going into a piano track with a singer. His voice will get annoying after a while

Yeah he's not exactly a great singer but I think this song is too pretty and heartfelt to leave out

So overall, a rather nice mixtape :)

I also had Mediafire delete my link, dammit :disappointed:

I'm late again, but here's my quite long review:

The first thing that fell into my sight when I got the tape was that all of the tracks had written „John, Jane Doe“ in the artist spot. :surprised: I didn't know what that should mean, so I googled it and I found out that the names "John Doe" for males and "Jane Doe" for females are used as placeholder names for a party whose true identity is unknown or must be withheld in a legal action, case, or discussion. At least, that's what wikipedia says. I really liked this, my partner must be creative.

All of the tracks also had an artwork, which was a pic of a radio, as well as some music notes, drawn in Paint and „A mixtape for Alien Radio“ written around it. I can't upload the artwork though, as I didn't get it as a special file.

Now let's get onto the tracks:

  1. An acoustic intro, some aery ooh-oohs and a soft male voice singing „We are only two, but it's not hard to do“ in the chorus. Then the electric guitar enters with some cool riffs. There's also a scratchy violin, that I especially liked, a cool percussion/drums riff and maybe some aerophones/horns? Anyway, a really nice, pleasing and simple track, a good opener. I'm looking forward to know who this is.

  2. An instrumental one. Bluesy and jazzy guitar riffs, a synth and again interesting percussion, which definetely doesn't consist of only drums. The whole track feels like some modern jazz and I really like it because I've been getting more into jazz lately. :wacky:

  3. Acoustic guitar, male singer singing „Fallen angel, a broken arrow, she come for me and eased my trouble mind.“ It's actually quite upbeat and it feels very britpop and anthemic. I don't know what this is, but it's nice.

  4. Again an acoustic one. The lyrics are not in English, I don't understand them. I think it's French, but I'm not sure as I don't speak French. The mood of this one is very cheery and optimistic, judging by the melody, the clappings and tambourine or whatever that is. The song goes nowhere actually, the same cheery beats stay the same the whole 3 minutes. It might be a good song for the summer heats.

  5. This one features only a man, which sounds quite old and black, who is with his weary and crying voice singing over a simple acoustic guitar. I actually liked his voice. My favourite part was: „o-la-dum-ba-boom-ba-bum-bwrrrrrrwip-bi-ba-bum“ in the end.

  6. A female vocalist. I really really like her voice. Actually it sounds a bit familiar too me, but I still don't know who it is. The music is also more interesting than the previous acoustic guitar-only songs. There's some synth-generated sounds and acoustics too, I can't really define everything I hear. There are also claps in the second part of the song. It's quite upbeat. The only thing that I don't like in this one is the „fyyyoooo“ sound in the background during the chorus. I don't know what it is, but it's quite annoying.

  7. Ohh, this reminds me a lot of Beirut, who I love
    [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iN-5XUqe1PQ]Beirut[/ame]
There's piano or synth, there's violin, maybe harmonica? Lol I suck at defining instruments. But it's very nice, especially the vocals, which consist of a male lead singer, and female and male back singers, might even be a choir. My favourite so far, I'm really looking forward to seeing who this is.

  8. This one's quite fast. Piano and a male singer repeating „Would you like to know how we could feel/should feel; I do, I do, I do“ - the lyrics are a bit cheesy. But the song in all is very interesting, especially the structure and the change of the fast and slow bits in the second part of the song.

  9. Soft, cute piano and A CREEPY GERMAN MAN singing something on German which I can only partly understand. He's actually not signing, but talking in this voice:
    [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SH8wDkqA_50]this voice[/ame]
Wow this is scary. D: But the piano-only music is really nice. Then in the middle of the song he starts actually singing, something about die Kinder but remaining in his scary tone. The end features him repeating Mein Herz brennt. I'm not sure how to feel about this one, but it's definetely scary. I'm scared to listen to this again

  10. This one starts quite creepy too. The intro sounds like it could be from some war-themed movie. But then, guess who comes… A CREEPY GERMAN MAN. This one is luckily slightly less creepier than the previous one. The song is less than 2 minutes long and there's not much in it. Feels quite mystic.

  11. A church bell and monster noises in the background. D: This tape is starting to get a horror movie feel. D: This one luckily doesn't feature a creepy german man, F*CK YEA. The singer is repeating Run, boy, run!. They're trying to catch you. PLEASE LET THEM NOT BE THE CREEPY GERMAN MEN. At this point I don't know if I should really run or stay and review the tape. There's a lot of instruments here and the vocals are really nice too. More Run, boy, runs. Orchestral outro with lots of percussion. I actually really like this one and I'm interested to hear who this is. :surprised:

  12. A simple violin, which adds to the dark, horror mood of the previous songs. „I always wanted to become a good, good boy. Now I know, I know, I know I am not.“ That makes me think - maybe if I had ran before I'd be a better boy? I don't know, but now I'm definetely staying here, in the middle of the night, in a comfortable chair, in front of my computer, drinking tea, reviewing this tape which gets more and more interesting with every song, while the snow is burying my house outside and I'm waiting for the creepy German men to knock on my door. I really like how this one is just this poor boy and his violin. Who is he? :surprised:

  13. A nice change of mood after the previous tracks. Feels more happier and hopeful. A female singer whose voice is really interesting. It's at times too deep for a female singer, but at other times it's too high for a male singer. I love the piano riffs in this one.

  14. Wow, I didn't expect something like this. A punk-pop song? This reminds me of times when I used to listen to bands like Jimmy Eat World, Yellowcard, Simple Plan, Less Than Jake and others. If this was a 3 years younger me reviewing, I would love this, but the current me can't see any difference between this and other tracks of the same genre. But I must say that it flows really nice after the previous track.

  15. For a second I thought that it's a return to the acoutic guitar songs from the beginning of the tape. But this one is more experimental, I love it. Actually there's not much acoustic guitar, it's more just weird percussion, drum machines and blips and blops, weird pauses and time signatures and vocals which remind me of Gnarls Barkley a bit.
    [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1JO3eEHpYi0]Gnarls Barkley[/ame]
It's very interesing. Might be even my favourite from the tape. :wacky: But I didn't like how it ended, the whole magic just stopped at once. And that was the end of the tape. At least the creepy German men still haven't knocked on my door. :sweatdrop:

In the end, I must say that I enjoyed listening to this tape, it was really interesting, especially the second half. :wacky: I had a fun time reviewing it too, especially that creepy part. So, thanks for this tape, I'm definetely looking forward to hear who these artists are. Not every song was my cup of tea, but I still appreciate them. But those songs that were, I'll definetely come back to them a lot in the future. :nice: I can't wait to know who my partner is!

hi marie :uhoh:

thanks for the review!! I'm glad you liked some of it. I was originally going to make a mix that was less obviously made by me but I gave up

i thought this was the best bit of the tape tbh

this is The Shallows - Groeni

He's one guy from my city. I really like this song but his other stuff is kinda weird.

Miasma Sky - Baths

yay! this is pretty new, I saw him play in November last year and he played this and ahhh :dead: it's so pretty

Without You (ft. Kerry Leatham) - Lapalux

Yeah, the atmosphere in this song is pretty incredible. Lapalux is probably my favourite electronic musician around right now.

Devotion - Jessie Ware

I really like Jessie Ware, while her songs aren't exactly special, the songs are produced by some more interesting musicians than you would expect from an indie pop-ish record.

Funny because this is called Tea Leaf Dancers - Flying Lotus

Vibes and Stuff - A Tribe Called Quest

okay so I knew you didn't like rap so I tried to give you a few different examples of the stuff I really like. I used to hate rap with all my heart but now it's probably my favourite genre so it's real important to me to give people examples of some good stuff. hah.

Blow My High (Members Only) - Kendrick Lamar

Thought this might be a bit of a risk. I just like how it's about Aaliyah

The Book Of Soul - Ab-Soul

I'm really glad you like this. It was one of my favourite songs of last year. I've come real close to crying a few times while listening to it, it's about Ab-Soul's girlfriend of 7 years who commited suicide :(

I'd really like to say he had more songs like this, but he doesn't...

Keep - Nils Frahm

I just put this in so I could have a better transition to the more electronic stuff. I really love it though. I like music where you can hear the sound of the pianist hitting the piano and it's almost like you can hear the room he's in too.

Stick To My Side - Pathu Du Prince

feat. Panda Bear from Animal Collective

Ikopol - Dauwd

ooh, wasn't sure if you'd like this. I'm a sucker for nice + pretty dance music

Sais - Floating Points

more beautiful dance music. I can't get over this song. It really is like being transported somewhere...

yr welcome! I'm glad you liked it. :nice:

Nice tape :)

^^^ Five bucks says that's Deidre's tape. She's the only person other than me I can think of who would put "Mein Herz Brennt" on their mixtape.

My review!!!

Hello!! Sorry this is so late, have only just really had a chance to listen to my mix tape! Also because of copyright issues on mediafire I had to find the track info then just youtube them so probably didn't get the full feel of the tape, but this is just my reaction to the songs. Thank you so much for making it, whoever you are!!!!

1) Cool intro, changes completely as it goes into the actual song! Nice tempo, good beat and really got me head bopping I have to be honest!! Kind of techno/disco feel which I quite liked as it isn’t my usual music style. Haven’t heard the band before either and really like the lead vocals. Very easy to get sucked into the beat.

2) This one sounds so retro: as one of my family commented it sounds a bit like an 80s Michael Jackson and I have to agree! It’s nice though as I haven’t heard a style like this for a while. Pretty cool!!

3) The intro instrument sounds kind of like a traditional South American xylophone!! Really wasn’t expecting that, but really works with the tone of the song and the rest of the instruments. Nice fast pace, finding it very hard not to repeat myself but these are great songs so far! The lyrics are also really interesting if you listen to them a few times, and on the bridge in the middle with the chorus singing it sounds so cool! Very impressed with this one.

4) Love the chilled guitar intro, sounds sort of right and wrong at the same time with the weird key!! Reminded me a bit of a band I’m really into at the moment called Yellowcard (check them out) and a bit of 30 seconds to Mars. I like the way that the backing is pretty simple: just drums and a couple of light guitars but it really works. Builds up a ot to a pretty awesome guitar solo near the end though. Me likey.

5) I actually have the album that this is from, however it’s not one of the ones I know best from it so was really interested to see this one. Lovely guitar chords, sort of melancholy mood but manages to escape being depressing. Also the lyrics are so lovely. God I’d forgotten how much I like this song. The chorus is haunting: really, properly emotional. Acts as a really nice slow piece in the tape. Greatly enjoyed.

6) For some reason made me think of Africa which is a good thing: was out there last summer so brought back memories!! Again I know quite a few one republic songs but not this one so I was pleased to see this. The blend of synths and techno in the chorus with the basic drums and guitar sounds amazing, and I love how the song keeps building from relatively calm at the beginning to a proper rousing chorus at the end!! I guess this is a relatively new release because I really haven’t heard of it before but I’m going to go and buy the album now!!

7) Now I’d normally say that you can’t go wrong with a bit of The Beatles, but I have to admit that this isn’t one of my favourites. Sorry, but it’s the truth.

8) Heard of this before but have never actually heard it. Didn’t really click with me for some reason: the guitar I found a little samey and couldn’t really relate to it somehow. I played it to a friend who loved it though so I guess that’s just me!!

9) Well this one is different!! I like deadmau5 though, and am pretty sure I’ve heard it before though I’m not sure. I think it’s nice that it has no vocals; you can just kind of get lost in the piano and beat. I enjoyed this but not sure why exactly!!

10) Ok so during the intro I wasn’t sure whether I was in a choral concert or listening to the soundtrack to a video game, but as the bassline started coming in it started getting interesting. Wouldn’t normally think of this as my kind of song but I quite liked it actually: weirdly enough my favourite bit was the bit of synth-stuff between a couple of the verses!!!

11) Felt like a mixture of the beach boys and a Japanese cartoon theme tune!! Despite the name it’s a proper feel good song, I can imagine it being good to work out to: I might try tomorrow (or I could sit at home and listen to it again…..hard choice). Wouldn’t say it’s my favourite of the tape but still cool!!

12) This one’s a proper dance tune: got to love a bit of Calvin Harris! What else can I say apart from this really gets you up and moving.

13) This is right up my street. Really enjoyable backing: simple but works well with the tune. Also really like this guy’s voice so will be listening to more of him. Like the lyrics too: really enjoyed this one!!

14) Lovely lovely Maroon 5- can always rely on them to make a chilled song completely and utterly engaging and amazing. I know this song pretty well so I can’t really comment on it other than to say that I love it!

15) Ok so aside from Lenny Kravitz being one of the coolest people ever to exist, this is an awesome song!! Such a catchy guitar entry, love his voice it’s so raw and powerful!! Brilliant showman and musician makes a brilliant song. Not much else to say!!

16) The intro makes me think of a back alley in Brooklyn somewhere, maybe a dingy bar: really atmospheric. I’ll be honest daft punk isn’t my favourite: it’s fine as background noise but I don’t think I’d go out of my way to listen to it. Still quite a cool song though. I like the backing track.

17) And how could you end a coldplay forum mix tape without….coldplay. UFO is one of my personal favourites (well I say that, I have far too many for it to be properly meaningful) but I think it’s one of their most underrated songs. It’s so raw and emotional, I love the way you can feel the squeaking of the guitar strings as he changes notes. I always play this one to my friends who don’t know coldplay that well because I think if you only ever hear the mainstream ones like ETIAW, Paradise, Viva etc (don’t get me wrong I love them) you don’t fully realise how amazing the band is.

i made that dumb recording hollah

Thanks to Alien Radio, that was probably the most fun review I've read so far :D

Yuuuuuuus! Someone else who listens to moi Caprice! AAAAAAAAH :awesome:

What happened with Crests? She didn't post anymore a bit after signing up for the mixtape exchange :S

Anyway, I am happy she decided to join this time. I have a lot of fun with the mixtape and glad to find out about some new artists that are of my liking. If she doesn't show up in this thread, I will see the tracklist anyway, right?

(I am sooo assuming it is Crests who made my mixtape, hahaha)

Thanks to Alien Radio, that was probably the most fun review I've read so far :D

Haha thanks :D

I just hope that my partner shows up soon

Alright, here's my mixtape review!

I kept writing this almost all the way through, leaving the computer for a break, and absentmindedly unplugging the computer only to realize what I have just done. :disappointed: But I'm not gonna bore you with bullshit excuses, especially as I've had plenty of time to write this apart from this weekend. My apologies, and I only hope that this review can kinda make up for it.

Alright, first things first, here's the album cover for all these songs,

wcfhqr.png

Pretty straightforward hehe, but the heart makes me think it's a girl I already know well. Marie? Maybe Violet or Kat? Hmm. My bets are on Marie.

This tape was 14 tracks long. No issues with information still staying on  Some of the tracks were in .mp3 and some were in .m4a which made it a little hard to play seamlessly on one program, but who cares really, it's the most minor thing in the world and I fixed it quickly.

Track 1:

Simple tapping of piano keys with some strumming of an electric guitar fading in which sounds really pretty. Soon we've got a steady beat with the aid of a drum machine, and somehow it sounds cohesive despite the fact that it is tinny and the piano and guitar sound delicate and gentle. Then, out of nowhere, a distorted, deep-voiced male singer who sounds like he's from some EDM genre comes in! Now when I first heard this song, I was like "aw man, this song was so pretty and then some dubstep guy comes in to ruin the atmosphere of the whole song" but then I liked it more and more, and now I can't see the song as any other way but that singer. And it makes the song all the better because of it. Kinda weird, huh? Good track

Track 2:

I fucking love this song. I'm not even gonna sit here and describe it. I don't care. I don't care at all. Oh my god

Track 3:

Folky track, simple guitar strumming that basically makes up the whole song and a strong male voice. This is definitely Marie. I can totally imagine her playing this on her guitar. "Darling... come morning... I'll be gone" The way he sings it actually made me a bit sad, and I very rarely feel the emotion from lyrics. I think I'd listen to it again. It evokes a bit of sadness and nostalgia from me and that's pretty cool

Track 4:

Ahh, is this Lovesong? Nah it's a cover of it. The singer has a younger, more teenage-like voice than the other deep and strongly-sounding male voices we've heard so far, think of that guy from Owl City or something hahaha. But not that annoying though. It's sorta amusing when he sings "Whenever I'm alone with you, you make me feel like I am young again."

I like it. Don't think it can beat the original though.

Track 5:

Wow, this is so indie. Male and female duet, with a sort of piano rock playing in the background and then that kind of explosive Arcade Fire-like indie rock playing in the chorus. It's not really interesting, sorry. It just feels too typical.

Track 6:

Is this the xx? Could be. I haven't really listened to their second album all the way through (gasp!). Could be just about anyone really, it's a female singer and all sorts of indie rock female singers come to mind when I hear her voice. I'm going for the xx though. Good song. I think I would've appreciated it more a few years ago though, and I'm almost mad at myself for that hahaha. Right now it just brings me back to when I was in junior high and I wanted to be a little hipster :wacky: That outro near the end is nice. I'm a sucker for a song that ends with all the instruments slowly dragging out. I think all songs should be like that, to slowly pull your soul out of the song instead of harshly ending it with a guitar note or a drumbeat.

Track 7:

Ooh, this is so French, and not just because of the singing  A pretty, romantic male singer-songwriter song, harmonica and all. Pfft, I've stopped studying French when I went back to high school so unfortunately almost any understanding I could've had of this song just melted away from me :bigcry: What a little gem though

Track 8:

Cool guitar riff. And then a sort of tribal... drums... whaaat? What language is this?? Hahaha, cowbell :awesome:. Could be an African language, no idea. There's a bit of English in the chorus though. This all works so well with the sort of big, U2-ish rock sound that's incorporated in there. This is so cool

Track 9:

Dreamy, but loud and focused, atmospheric song with a female singer and rapid drumbeat. I've heard this song before, for sure. But I can't remember at all where. This flows so nicely with the last track btw, well done!

I'm not sure if I'd listen to it again, but I remember this track, almost to the point of knowing all the lyrics, I wanna know who sings it :bomb:

Track 10:

Woah, very in-your-face compared to the mood of the last 9 or so tracks. Electronic track with a steady pounding drumbeat similar to what a hangover must be like, I assume (but not that annoying! :P)

In the chorus, it gets even louder, just an explosion of synths and loud... glistening...
everything
. If track 7 was a small, sweet, expensive pastry and track 3 was a homemade bowl of soup, this track is injecting pure cotton candy into your veins. It's cool but I don't really think much of it.

Track 11:

Sleepyhead by Passion Pit. For some reason I can very much enjoy the cheesyness of this. I've seen them open for Muse twice, and I'm probably gonna check them out at Coachella. So much Passion Pit and I only really know a few songs? I should check out more of their stuff, but when I saw them a lot of their songs sounded the same so I dunno :huh2:

Track 12:

Animal Collective? Oh, no. This is too grand to be by them. WoaoaAHAAAahaAHAHAHA. Every indie song has to have a WOWHAhaWOWHAhaAA. This is so indie I can't take it :bomb: We've got loud, swirling synths, crashing cymbals that you can almost feel slamming against your ear, a simple electric guitar riff there just to amplify the intensity of it all. You could totally freefall to this music. Alright, I doubt I'd listen to this again though.

Track 13:

Yes. Good. I like

Oh wait, this is Alt-J! I mean I haven't heard this song before, but they're singing "a wave, an awesome wave". I remember hearing a handful of singles and just being like "bleh, sounds like a duller version of Radiohead" and not giving any attention since but this is pretty good! Should also try to give them a visit at Coachella.

Btw their band name makes me lol.

Track 14:

Aww man, final track. Also sounds like AnCo, to me the last 3 tracks all sounded like an AnCo track at the beginning and then they diverged into their own way. This one could pass the most for an AnCo track throughout. I'm sure it's not, though. The singing is familiar. Grand and Arcade Fire-y, with some quiet tweaking synths at times. Those little noises at ~2:45 really make the song for me. Not entirely my cup of tea, but like so many other of these tracks, I feel so familiar to them, I want to know who sings them, it's driving me crazy :bomb:

---

Overall, I enjoyed the mixtape, all of the songs were nice to listen to, but I think 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 8, and maybe 13 were the ones that drew my attention the most. Like I said, if you would've sent this tape to me a few years before, I would've adored it front to back, and for that reason I'm a little mad at myself hehe, but it was nice all the same.

Thank you!

(Marieee I know it's youuu nananananana :snobby:)
