It is songs like these every album that prevent me from being able to defend myself. A lot of my friends like to give me shit for being such a hardcore coldplay fan and I always proudly take it and have the motto "You like what you like!" But when they mention songs like these, I just don't have an answer, and say "yeah, okay, I see what you are saying there."

May 8, 201412 yr A Sky Full of Stars hasn't really grown for me, but its still a good song imo. Like a 8/10 or a 7.5/10. I think more guitar could have allowed it to be an outstanding track.

But there's still a possibility it could take off and become a big hit.
May 8, 201412 yr Maybe, but the fact that they didn't perform it to the biggest audience they would have (Tonight Show) until the album release is sort of telling. I'm guessing that it hits maybe 15 to 10 as a peak in the top 40, unless there is some huge bump in radio play.

I actually haven't detested the live versions as much because you can hear all the band giving it their all, similar to an ETIAW sound, a song which I learned to love because of the rich textures and catchy hooks. If there is a good enough live bit I may just substitute it on my mp3 version of the album. I really feel silly have to defend a band I like, because criticising others about their preferences is just ignorant, but it is funny that our friends share that tendency. My close friends are all very diverse/alternative music listeners and do really like Coldplay's first two albums, like you mentioned, they just don't like the whole mainstream pop idea, and honestly neither do I. The difference is Coldplay usually nails that balancing act between alternative and mainstream, bringing the best of both worlds, which I love. But yeah, ASFOS misses that mark and slips too far in the latter direction to where it is just kind of boring (despite being so loud.)

Yes the preorders took the song to #1 but the preorder effect was gone after the first day and ASFOS managed to stay #1 for almost 2 more days and it's still in the top10 on iTunes. It's also on path to outsell Magic before the end of the month. The fact that the band didn't perform ASFOS on Jimmy Fallon was a pretty bad move but I think that had more to do with the band being tired (they played 2 shows the day before and they had to tape those performances the very next morning) They probably didn't have the energy to perform ASFOS which is understandable. And with the Target and NBA commercial set to air in the next week, this song will do amazing. ASFOS has the potential to become one of their biggest hits.

May 9, 201412 yr Do you guys think that this song is as good as Viva la Vida? In my opinion, no. Even live, the 'drop' of ASFOS just doesn't compete with the chanty bit of VLV. And the leadup to the chanty bit is just so hype. I don't see ASFOS becoming as big as VLV partly because it's just got such a tough act to follow up. I mean, VLV might just be one of the best known songs from the band now. Even with the MX tour, fans were doing the 'oh oh ohhh's before/after concerts as a kind of coldplay-fan-identifying war cry.

I've been checking the playlists of the big radio stations here (virginradio, kissfm, chumfm) and none of them have played it even once I think. Even The Edge fm, which plays a lot of alternative rock, has only been playing Magic :S

There's hundreds of songs that sound just like ASFOS on the radio. VLV rocketed and stayed at the top there for a loooong time. It was a cultural phenomenon and was a #1 hit in America. May 12, 201412 yr This track should have been on MX not GS, i think this track doesnt fit in the rest of GS, because most of the other tracks are lowtempo.
