I'm beginning to miss the "Paradise" vibe. Okay, not really, but come on, this isn't close to what I expect from Coldplay... very disappointed.

0k, first listen of the song and I can say that I liked it. Less than others but more than others. I don't know if it's me that can just close my eyes and see them beyond anything they do, but I still feel goosebumps with their music. And furthermore, at this point I don't know if me or anybody would like an album full of the same type of songs, so I like their variety.

Its so hard to judge the final product until we have heard it all as an album. I found I judged mx quickly and then began to love it. There are only three songs I hate from coldplay. I 'really' don't like another's arms so far. Maybe I shouldn't have listened to the live performance as it really disappointed me and that's all I can think about when I hear it. The special coming up next week where they perform the album might change my mind. I am hopeful! Their music used to move me. The guitar and piano. I am not 'feeling' it like I used to.

 

As for this song, it catchy but not what I hoped for. Chris' lyrics are terrible and there isn't enough of a coldplay stamp on it. My 7 year old son adores it and sings along. He can't wait for the video.

I really don't get the hate for this song. I can still hear the guitar parts in the song, just with more EDM elements. Coldplay has been evolving its sound and it still has many Coldplay elements.

 

Here's a question: If we never knew Avicii produced this song, would it be getting the hate it does?

 

If I never knew Avicii produced this song, I still wouldn't like it. In fact, and I mean this honestly, I would probably say "Man this sounds so much like something Avicii would do." Look, I don't hate Avicii, he is a good artist but he has his own style. His hits usually take already performed songs, then perhaps he adds a little, and then they are messed with until they are EDM stompers. To me, ASFOS sounds like a more simplified version of an MX tune that was remixed by Avicii.

 

If you listen to the live performance with Later.... you can hear all the elements really clearly, and that made it a decent song imo. I loved how fast Will was banging those drums and Guy's distinct bass line and of course Jonny (who is still toned down in the studio version to where it sounds like Where The Streets Have Name in reverse.) The studio sounds like a remix of the live performance, and that honestly is what it is. Coldplay recorded and Avicii made it his own.

I remember when Paradise first dropped this whole forum was up in arms too. Some people were labeling it as dubstep and others were doing the whole "Coldplay is dead to me," thing. I was shocked and indecisive on Paradise at first because of the heavy base, "PARA PARA PARADISE" chorus, I didn't like it, but today I rather enjoy it, especially the intro.

 

ASFOS will grow on those who are on the fence. I am also disappointed, but I hope it will grow on me. At this point though I would kill for a more Paradise vibe though haha in that I want more instrumentation and lyrical content (and Paradise's lyrics are only just passable as they stand.)

I really don't know what I think about this song. I like it, it has a good beat and Chris' voice is perfect as usual.

But this is a really change of their music, more dancing but with the Coldplay mystic.

 

My curiosity becomes higher day by day. Waiting for 19 May !

I also love it but the songs (we have heard) show sadness, minus Magic and ASFOS, and I think those two songs exist to break that sadness. :)

I say one more time: the song is great when performed live and if you watch the recent Lowe interview I it's entirety you learn why it came out as it did.

First I was like "wtf?", now I really like it, doesn't sound like a Coldplay classic, but it's a great song on it's own way

The reason i like this song is because when i look at the dark times ive been through a reminder through its lyrics reminds me of the positive golden times i had, thats all and thats all i had positive aside from the warmth of the sun...you can say it was like tranquility of the spirit dancing, but i can understand why some dont like it....

The song reminds me of the SHM song Dont You Worry Child. Thats what i thought of the first time i heard ASFOS.

Well my mum thinks that its just a silly song. Has own opinion I guess big contrast to magic, she loves magic...

No it is not a "classic Coldplay song" but I genuinely like it, it's happy andd can you imagine the atmosphere when being a live concert listening to this song? It's going to be enormous!

I've thought about this myself, but ultimately I don't really feel it's all that simpler than the majority of the lyrics from the rest of the album. Most of them do have an intense sense of loss or heartbreak which is an interesting/refreshing change from the more optimistic color of the last couple albums, but I wouldn't say any of it's been much more deep. I think this one just feels lighter because it's... well, lighter. The sadder tones of the rest just give them more of an edge. I actually cringed a little more reading the lyrics to Ink than I did hearing anything in this song.

 

But yeah, I'm sure even the people who hate it will have a hard time standing still in concert.

I do like the song - I think the vocals are really powerful and thats what sets it apart from a generic club song really. However i do think that people that labelled this song as coldplays best ever song before it came out hyped it up way too much.

Same here! I find that ASFOS to me is him wanting to say that she is beautiful but he can't because everything that is going on in their lives. And Chris vocally expresses this amazingly, it's like he's calling out and he's expressing his love for her out loud for everyone to hear. But that's my take on it anyways

By the way, when you see it live or in the NBC special, the stars fall from the ceiling, adding to the magic of the moment, while Chris is reaching towards the sky.
