LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"

Featured Replies

I agree. I don't care if the band release an album that sounds like maroon 5 or like the fray, i will still support Coldplay forever. [emoji2][emoji106] i first heard clocks on the radio and i'm not going to stop listening to them anytime soon.

That's right, Viva La Coldplay!

When did they do that? They've never been cool enough to do this and I think they never wanted to, they were just playing their music and showing their way of seeing the world.

They've always been considered too poppish to be alternative and too alternative to be trendy, and they lived the top of their career in the first part of a too underestimated decade like the 00s, the least iconic period of the last 60 years.

I only know that pop culture of that years (2000-2006) had its flaws like all the others decades, but also had great songs that were also big hits and I still remember most of them.

they started the whole "being nice is cool" thing, keane, snow patrol, kings of lion, one republic, the fray, the script all followed coldplay's example

You might not always agree on the path or direction they decide to take, but you support them regardless. It's quite a good analogy actually.

I use the same 'excuse' when ppl ask me why I support the hockey team that I do (whom are also getting slack for their recent lack of quality).

I guess ppl waking up to see the LP7 thread will freak out over the pages we added again!

trolololololo.

I'd say the next bit of news will be a single announcement. In which case the site will slow to a crawl, and if you do get through, one of the mods will edit the title of the thread like they did when the title was announced.

I sometimes wonder what the band would think if they had to trudge through this thread :P

I wonder if someone like Debs Wild or Phil ever checks the discussion on here. Debs is an inactive member and of course Phil was interviewed so it is a possibility.

Alternative rock, pop, britpop...

Screw that!!

They're Coldplay no matter what!! I'll love them no matter how they sound like!! Why? Because they're the only band that I can listen (on repeat) to every single song they've released without feeling bored and without skipping a single track.

I could listen to Politik/Don't Panic/Square One and love them. Right after, I could listen to Cemeteries of London/Hurts Like Heaven/Always In My Head and love them too! They're the different styles from the same band! The different sides of a cube!! Quit this "I hate the poppy Coldplay" thingy bc there is no poppy Coldplay. There's only Coldplay. The one and only Coldplay.

Thank. You.

Apart from Keane that were born at the same time, the others were bands who were influenced by them and tried to emulate their sound. Still today there are bands who tried to do that (Kodaline, Imagine Dragons,...), but normal people din't play nice because they were listening to Coldplay or changed their clothes or haircut.

Im sorry bout you're wrong, music always was about selling the lifestyle so stop blaming polular music today for something that has been a thing since 1960

in the 70s it was all about hard rock and metal, they were selling that lifestyle, long hair, leather, trah hotel rooms, drugs and people going to jail and having children with everyone, that was the thing

in the 80s it was disco, curly hair, boot cut jeans, hippy things, discos, dancing and all that stuff plus LSD and tripping with drugs

in the 90s the brit pop boom, bands that love to call other people bedwetters, mid-lenght hair, everyone was wearing those long brown jackets, oasis vs blur, radiohead doing their stuff

10's twerking, female figures spreading feminists ideas through music (see nicki minaj, beyonce), songs about butts, drugs aren't cool anymore (thank god for that), big cars and all that

music was ALWAYS about lyrics made right for what was selling, so don't blame it all on current artists because they aren't doing anything different from what The Beatles, Led Zeppeling, Guns n Roses, Oasis and Coldplay did back in their days.

Maybe I made my point poorly. What I was saying was that the pop industry itself today is derived purely from the interests of non-musical corporations - namely the specific creation of socio-economic ideals and an undercurrent of passivity in the face of this - and is deliberately created as such. This, of course, differs distinctively though not massively from what has happened "since the 60s". I don't really see how the idea, flawed as it is, that it's been happening for a few decades makes it any less repulsive. Hope I cleared that up what I meant.

Side-note: I really don't understand the mentality of following/supporting a band no matter what. If Coldplay make another album I don't like I don't see why I should consider myself a fan. Same with any other band. I'm a fan if I like the music...is that weird?

I'd listen to all 6 of these songs. Why can't I like all 6. Why are you pitting them against each other? They're from the same band.

But i'll play your game. Yeah, I would rather listen to Politik, Clocks, and Trouble. Does that make ASFOS, Magic and POC bad songs? Why can't they all be good, or all be bad, or some good, some bad?

Because apparently pop = bad.

Just a note, too. Coldplay isn't the only band to drop B-sides. How many bands even do that now? Sure, it sucks to see them fading away, but this is in no way exclusive to Coldplay. Most of these complaints are hilariously petty, and seem to from from misunderstand the music industry.

There are so many great artists/bands that make great pop music today, but they aren't mainstream, like there's a large number of indie/alternative acts that make terrible music. . The problem is not pop,is the quality of music.

Most of the Coldplaying community prefer Coldplay's old rock ways over their new "Poppy" music.

Same here. Their different sounds are what make them great. [emoji2][emoji106]

It's not weird. If you like the music you can call yourself a fan. If you don't like the music you can call yourself not a fan. Personally, I think I'll always be a fan of Coldplay. They have never disappointed me and I don't think they will. Even if they do (which I don't believe), I'll still call myself a fan. Because they will always have music I appreciate.

Yes!! They're not stuck to the same sound for their entire career. They are innovative, creative and passionate. They can't make bad songs/albums [emoji4]

But you do like the music, you like Parachutes, AROBTTH so by default you would still be a Coldplay fan. Presumably, you would still go to see CP on the AHFOD tour to hear the old stuff? That in itself is still supporting them.

*Leaves thread for three hours*

*Comes back to find all this*

At least everyone is taking a page out of Coldplay's book and being nice!

If Coldplay just kept trying to make AROBTTH over and over again they'd have gotten bland. I prefer an artist who isn't afraid to add something new to their sound and Coldplay are afraid of being stagnant. Why else did they make something truly different like VLVODAAHF? :)

I think we are all here because we all love CP, and I might say we all agree with that. And imho there is not only one way of loving them, simply everyone feels their music and their story through the years differently.

I say it without any kind of anger or superiority (my opinion count just as much as the others, or maybe even less), but I'm not the kind of person who "forgives" everything only because I love something. I think that the best way to love music is focusing on the flaws trying to find a way to improve as far as possible. Criticism is the strongest way of love imho, because I know that the can do better than what they are doing right now and I believe they can still do something beautiful for us all.

Just saying, I saw them live during the MX era that is my least favourite ever (and I always criticize it), if this is not love....

*Steps quietly into thread*

Can't wait for the album! :D

I agree. That's one of the things that make them unique [emoji6]

Not just in VLV. MX has a solid new style too. GS's style isn't 100% new for the world, but it is new for the band. So, I can still say they innovated in GS (they do have some experimental tracks there) [emoji4]

I understand what you say. It is your opinion. If you find things worth of criticism, then you should criticize them (always with smart arguments [emoji6]). But I simply cannot find flaws in Coldplay. I cannot.

But that wasn't my point anyways. I was referring to the rocky/poppy Coldplay. They are simply experimenting new genres and styles. I think that shouldn't be criticized. It should be praised instead. Even if GS (example) isn't their most creative/innovative era and most people call its genre "pop", you can clearly see that it isn't just "pop". There's a mix of so many different styles/genres in that album! They stepped into territiories they never had been before. And the athmosphere of the album perfectly matches its concept.

That's my opinion.

"I live to see the world"

Well it's long been known that the LP7 thread regularly turns into a Coldplay General Discussion Thread, so if I want to check for news I check Coldplay's official FB or Twitter account, not this :D

About supporting, I can understand both those who support regardless of what they put out and those who don't. I'd place myself in the latter group, I would not buy the new album if it turns out to be crap, I'd rather go back and listen to the older stuff over and over again. But I still like them forever for what they have released in the years 1998-2008, so I'd call myself a fan.
