Not saying that MX is horrible,but it is definitely not the best album of Coldplay and arguably the worst out of their six.There are some nice songs like Moving to Mars and Major Minus,and the other songs are generally cheerful and vibrant.Even so,some songs simply don't hit hard enough(Up In Flames/Us Against The World) and songs like Paradise/ETIAW are good pop songs which is ok to have one or two of these in every album.The thing is,if u love these songs and think they are Coldplay's best and made you a fan of Coldplay,try listening more closely to songs from previous Coldplay albums in their first three albums.If you think those songs are pretty "old",go ahead and listen so some songs in VLVADAAHF that are not VLV.There are many great songs which showcases the music that Coldplay once did for example(Spies/Dont Panic/Politik/Amsterdam/Low/White Shadows) ect, and that stuff like ASFOS/Viva La Vida/Paradise are good songs,but definitely not the best of Coldplay.Unless you tell me you have been a great fan of Coldplay since the early days but still find that the best of Coldplay is stuff from MX or GS,then i have nothing to say.

^^^ To be fair, Coldplay could beat out U2 and Elton in today's world, or at least take a run at it. And if U2 is rumored to be dropping in December and Elton in February, that leaves a nice open slot in January for Coldplay to get AHFoD out.

Arguably GS is their worst album. But yes, from the majority of critics and fans alike, their first 4 albums are their best work.

Quite a moderate response...I think the Mylo-good-bad discussion is great when it stays at trying to convince, not insult each other. :)

Worst? I am not trying to be judgmental but what are you basing this on? Have you heard the lyrics? Do you know what the album is about? Do you know Chris poured his heart out on this? Everyone has their own opinion, I totally respect that this is your opinion. But worst? Ghost Stories is so personal and intimate, I have a hard time believing it is Coldplay's worst.

Musically it is their worst.

I am not doubting the feelings that Chris had when he imagined this album. But still, it is too far from the quality of any other Coldplay album.

 

Still it has some good songs. I really like Oceans (version DVD Live 2014, when Chris is playing the song in his guitar upon a beach.

BTW,i wasnt even insulting you and i dont really care what kind of music you like as i respect that thats ur own prefrence,i was talking about a previous user who finds songs like ASFOS/POC/Viva La Vida/Paradise as the best songs of Coldplay and Major Minus being the worse song of Coldplay.And PS,im trying to tell you that there are better EDM songs around then the ones Coldplay make,no offence in ur taste of music and seems like you are the one calling me closed minded for the sake of insulting lmao.

But what bums me out is i'm not convinced anything will really solve it.

 

They played iHeart which was their first appearance in the new era and we complained.

They played a brand new song after such a long time off and we complained.

 

Even further back, they released Ghost Stories and it wasn't what fans thought and we complained.

 

It's been a very long time since i've seen this forum genuinely and unanimously happy. And i'm not blaming the band whatsoever. I'm blaming ourselves for just not being very grateful about what we do get from the band.

 

Users joke that maybe the band read this forum and will see we're desperate for news. But if i'm the band and read the comments around here, I wonder why bother if they hate the material and direction we've been heading towards.

Fantastic points. Look at what we do have people. We have a new song to tide us over til the single. I know some of you might not care for it, but its something. And I'm grateful for it. I think its an awesome song. It definitely feels great to listen to Amazing Day after you have actually had an Amazing Day. It puts you in a good mood and makes you appreciate everything that much more. Great post.

I believe that for other artists, honestly in 2 years of songwriting I'm more than sure Coldplay does plenty quality stuff.

I hope AHFOD brings back some originality that cold kind lost in the last few years. Well constructed melodies that doesn't repeat much like up in flames --'... bring somethings back like 42, thigns that sound huge acessible but that stills different and complex. Mx was good but the bottom/bases(I don't know what word in english haha) of the songs are too simple, the voice was everytime doing the same melody of something. I miss great passages in the songs like the explosion of amsterdam or of the death and all of his friends. I like thigs that sound new and not too mainstream. Hopefully AHFOD brings somethings back...

This ! Coldplay used to be the best melodists in contempary rock/pop music...but since MX (which was still kinda OK melody-wise) and Ghost Stories (which had a terrible lack of good melodies) the ideas seem to be running out !
